Well Done to apprentice Baylee Nothdurft who I have never heard of until this morning......... looking up the results for Toowoomba I saw he rode 5 of the 7 winners last night.........he  has a pretty good record overall so when he comes to town he should do well.

He's going very well no doubt...in my enthusiasm I relied on the SM results which subsequent intelligence found were in error he rode 4 of the 7 winners not 5 as I posted......the last race winner was Dog Days Are Over not She Is Fierce which was ridden by Baylee that's where the press got it wrong. :shy:

Baylee might like the punt according to a report in the CM he is under investigation for some small bets no detail if he was supporting his own mounts or just like one of the boys betting on other races...you would think he should have known better....he'll know his fate possibly on Wednesday when the matter is set down for hearing.

I  was in a pub a few years ago when four young blokes came in and took some interest in the races.

I recognised one as a middle tier apprentice and another as an apprentice with a lesser recognition factor. In the couple of hours they were there these two had one of the other fellows put their bets on for them.

Well, they passed money to him and he proceeded to the TAB window.  If that was betting they were. They could have been passing money they owed for other things and the guy have been betting these paid debts for himself.

From the money passing hands the stakes looked in the region of $10-$20.

I thought to myself   "I suppose they are breaking this ridiculous law but how could it be proved?"

Star apprentice banned for betting

Emerging Queensland apprentice Baylee Nothdurft has been suspended for three months after admitting betting on thoroughbred races over a three-month period.

Queensland stewards will revisit his case after two months and decide whether to reduce the penalty if Nothdurft can show he has undertaken counselling for gambling.

As it stands Nothdurft, who is the leading apprentice on the Darling Downs, can’t resume riding until September 21.

At an inquiry in Brisbane on Wednesday, stewards found the 18-year-old placed a series of bets between April and June on a TAB account.

Chief steward Allan Reardon said the panel was satisfied Nothdurft had not bet on any race in which he rode.

Jockeys are not permitted to bet on races and stewards across Australia have clamped down on it in the past few years.

Nothdurft apologised and told the inquiry the bets had been placed while he was at home when he was between changing stables and was bored..

Reardon said Nothdurft’s charge was brought under a different section of racing rules from the case of Sydney jockey James McDonald who is serving an 18-month disqualification.

McDonald was charged with backing his own mount Astern to win a race in December 2015.

“We were satisfied Nothdurft has not placed any bets on races in which he rode and it is different to some other cases. But a suspension is warranted,” Reardon said.

Considering the precedents of Robl ,Shinn ? and Mc Donald young Baylee has been treated with kid gloves.
