Beasley preparing for Wagga Gold Cup carnival return
Clinton Payne - 19 Mar 2015
Eleven-time Australian Group I-winning jockey Danny Beasley is aiming to make his return to the saddle at the Wagga Gold Cup carnival on April 30 and May 1.
Beasley spent the past seven years riding in Singapore where he rode more than 450 winners until the Singapore Turf Club ended his contract to ride in the Asian racing centre late last year.
"I was going to come straight back and get into it but then I thought Iíve been doing it for 20 plus years and never had a break,Ē Beasley said.
"Everything happened very quickly and it was unexpected to lose my licence so this was a good opportunity to take a holiday and realign myself.Ē
Beasley is currently preparing to leave Singapore and return home. The 39-year-old says heís "under no illusionsĒ of the task ahead breaking back into the competitive Sydney riding ranks but is "rechargedĒ and "looking forward to the challengeĒ.
"I havenít ridden since the middle of December so Iíve got to get fit,Ē he said. "Iím not heavy, Iím walking around 54, 55 kilos so my weightís not an issue.
"Iíve been away a long time and I have to prove myself again.
Thereís a magnificent group of riders in Sydney at the moment and itís not going to be easy but Iím looking forward to the challenge.
"Iím not going to ride in races until my bodyís ready but Iím hoping to be ready for the Wagga carnival. Thatís the aim.Ē
