If Connections are going to tell the Jockey not to carry a whip they are obliged to tell the stewards aren't they? then if a Jockey wears spurs one day and not another shouldn't that be conveyed to the punters via the Stewards? The thing is Punters will scream if a Jockey doesn't pull the whip and were not told before hand because they can see that, so they tell the public to pacify them, almost no Punter is savvy enough to know when the Spurs go on or come off and who wants to admit they don't know what they don't know, not many here obviously so if this is an example of the knowledge of the average punter I am not surprised,
I can understand that some don't think Spurs are of any use or of limited use, that is your prerogative and I respect that!!

What I cannot understand is even if you doubt the effectiveness of spurs it is "Knowledge" why would you want it kept hidden from you and everyone else??????????
I would have serious doubts about my sanity if I thought I was a Mushroom, why don't some of you??????

I saw a jock going out onto the track at lismore on saturday, she was with the pony and her horse shy-ed at something and she came off only to get hung up, her horse just stood there (thank god) . it was the spurs that were caught!!!

I reckon they were the reason More Joyous Bucked in the Silver Slipper! the saddle shifted after she bucked, not the other way around,
They do not always work in a positive manner, all the more reason we should know if the Jockey has them on

don't were spurs on a Fillies or Mares, Esp a2yo Fillie, i DON'T think he would
of had Spurs on MJ

Pretty sure he did, wasn't at the races that day but I am 95% sure he had them on, on TV you only get a quick Glimpse sometimes but I watch for them fairly closely,
I wouldn't mind betting that horse in Melbourne of the FBI's can't remember it's name started with an "E" I think,
also think it was the same day as More Joyous, it bucked as well and was a hot fav, Lee's horses often wear spurs, it would explain a lot wouldn't it??
If it was the cause don't you think the public should know if a Jockey is using Spurs on a green 2 year old???

It has been interesting to note the number of jockeys in Qld in recent months using spurs who never used to.
Colless uses them regularly, Katsidis, El-Issa, Pengelly, Browne the list goes on

Whether they have an impact is up to the individual punter to decide.

Some trainers seem to ensure their riders all wear spurs.
One EF trainer in particular springs to mind

A female EF trainer had a favourite a few months ago in a 2yo race that bucked early in the race and cost it the race. Was clearly a rejection to the spurs that were used on it. Every ecuse was made other than the spurs.
They can be positiive but they can be negative iMO

Well Richo if you were going to bet in a 2 year old race wouldn't you want to know if a Jockey had spurs on?? Doesn't really matter whether it is a positive or a negative effect you just admitted that they can have an effect!!
I think punters should be told, let hem decide if they want it to influence them in the way they proceed to bet (or not)
Why is it that we won't listen to all the leaders in the sport who do use them?? but we listen to Ray Murrihy and people who do not use them tell us they do not work?? Bloody crazy logic to me?????

no i couldn't care less in a 2yold race but if it was in an older horses race on a few gay decievers i probably would but i don't think they should be notifiable

You said that it can have a negative effect on 2 yearolds,so if a Jockey was wearing them on a 2 year old and it made the horse buck with your money on it and it could have avoided (your money being on I mean by letting you know as you said they shouldn't use them on 2 year olds cos they are honest) you wouldn't care? yeah right, that seems credible, either you are a liar or an idiot with no respect for your money, you can't have it both ways

no i have no respect for you or your opinions horses arn't machines, like people they are all individuals and have to be treated as such what works for one may not work on another.
