Jamie is a 3kg claim apprentice who moved to Sydney late October. Last season he won the apprentices' and also jockeys' premiership on the Northern Rivers.
In total Jamie has ridden over 120 winners.
Jamie has ridden 12 Sydney metro winners in the short time he has been here in sydney riding for former top jockey Kevin Moses.
Also giving other apprentices a 3 month head start in the title race Jamie is clearly a kid on the move!!

Racing NSW stewards have suspended apprentice jockey Jamie Quinnell for drug use.

Quinnell returned the positive sample at Warwick Farm on Monday, October 5.

The apprentice pleaded guilty to a charge under AR81A and was suspended for seven months with the ban enforced after Saturday’s Randwick meeting.

Stewards will reduce the term of suspension to five months if Quinnell undergoes counselling.

During evidence, when Quinnell was represented by his master Kevin Moses, the apprentice jockey advised stewards that he had already started counselling sessions

Racing NSW

Racing NSW Stewards on Friday considered a report of the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory on a finding of a banned substance in a sample taken from Apprentice Jockey Jamie Quinnell, after having ridden at the Warwick Farm race meeting on Monday, 5th October 2009.

At Friday's hearing Apprentice Jamie Quinnell was represented by his master, Mr Kevin Moses.

After taking into account Jamie Quinnell’s age, his prior good record, forthright evidence and his advice that he had already commenced professional counselling, the Stewards issued the following penalty; Jamie Quinnell having pleaded guilty to a breach of AR81A:-

• That Jamie Quinnell’s apprentice permit be suspended in full until 1st January 2010, and

• That his licence to ride in races be suspended for a period until 8th June 2010, with this period reduced to 8th April 2010 upon him completing a satisfactory period of professional counselling.

As Jamie Quinnell provided a clearing sample last Thursday, 29th October 2009, he will be permitted to fulfil riding engagements on Saturday, 7th November 2009.

if it's speed they do it for weight control thinking it's the easy option, I think most states now have ex jocks mentoring apprentices surely you would think they would be hammering into these you mens brain how stupid it is.Jamie has allways been a pretty sensible kid but things change when you get a bit of success ,a few "mates" and out of the control of his father who started him off I hope he gets through this and learns from it.

get down to the big smoke and you've got most of the young people taking pills. problem is you get some telling these young blokes if you take this sat night it will be out of your system by Monday and in most cases with certain drugs it prob is. trouble is you dont know the makeup of the pills. depends whose making them  :what: I'm sure some marketed as the same drug would contain different substances. theres no quality  control board in that game.

Troubled apprentice Jamie Quinnell was also stood down from his engagements after an approach to stewards from his master Kevin Moses.

“Kevin Moses advised stewards at 8.51am that apprentice Quinnell had not turned up to ride trackwork and had not been able to be contacted,” Murrihy said.

Quinnell commences a seven-month suspension at midnight after he pleaded guilty on Friday to taking a banned substance.
