Yes he is a top jockey and journeyman.

The fact that he prefers to ride out in the bush says it all .

Here he is on Ruby Soho yesty.  You might get to meet Mr Thompson in the winners stall at the MM Goldie.

Ruby got a charmed run behind the pace to the 600 (that's her with her head near the blue dot track marker).

He angled her off the rails coming to the turn.

But she had to come to centre track to get clear running.  All the while Oakleigh Girl was freewheeling out the fronton the rail.  That's Ruby on the right still running 5th with 100m to go.

Ruby Soho never made it into my close up of the finish but she was just on a length from the winner crossing the line.

But the important thing to note is the race time...very close to the track record held by Florida Star for the 1010M.  The last 600 was run (by Oakleigh Girl) in 33.36.  Now take into account that Ruby gave her 4L at the 600 and ran her to 1L, covering more ground as well, and you have a pretty impressive Magic Millions trial.  And Ms Ruby Soho will appreciate the 1200.  She will have another run around New Year before the big one on the GC.  Will be interesting to see if Mr Thompson comes back to ride her.  That could be an odds on cert.

Thommo ... one ride for one win today at Gosford.

Belle of the Turf Stakes. MYAMIRA BP 8 over the mile at Gosford?
If you know the track (see pic) you will know it was a genius ride.

Tell ya what - if D. Oliver was aboard, the press would be full of it ... complete with "past-the-post" saluting antics.
Not Robert Thompson. He gets the job done and gets quietly on with the next job.

Round the home turn MYAMIRA was never going to lose.

Easy $12.10 winner.

Thank you Robert. You're my hero.

Hope ya boot SAGATONA home tomorra ... around $13/$3.50.

And Ascot ... I have a feeling in my waters that Sagatona will finish a length in front of Ms RS.

RT has ridden both to excellent times.

I was wrong about Sagatona beating Ruby Soho home in the MM, but I am not wrong about Rob Thompson.

Rode 4 winners from 7 rides at Tamworth today incl Roman Account at $7.50 fixed.

Onya rob   8-)

Tamworth is his kingdom - always rides winners there.
Put him on even a bad horse and he'll get it home.

Yes - that must have hurt.

His winners we
$1.90 in the 2nd
$6.20 in the 4th
$2.40 in the 5th
$2.50 in the 7th

Lost on #7 in the 1st, #6 in the 3rd and #3 (3rd) in the 6th.

I didn't hear the race where she got rolled.
It looked a moral - barrier 1 and Thommo had won on her before at Tamworth.

Won at track and distance, and fit. There was plenty to say she should have been over the line.
Waiting for the replay to become available on Sky.

Hope you didn't get burned on her.

Got pocketed behind all the way leader - not sure what the horse had to offer though.

Not sure either.
BM 65 handicap - had previously won 4 from 10 and 2 placings, so no slouch.
Home track advantage too.

I can't see an excuse today.

A winner and a third from the Taree meeting today.

Can't comment - didn't hear the races.

Note he has a full card at Launceston's twilight meeting tomorrow.

R1: BURLINGTON
R2: JEWEL BOX
R3: QUEST MASTER
R4: KOUTOUFIDES
R5: YOUTHFUL JACK
R6: CIELO DURO (1000 Guineas Feature)
R7: YUPPONY
R8: GURU REZ

Races 2-7 inclusive, he rides for trainer Adam Trinder.
Races 1 and 8 are rides for other trainers.

Good luck if you're following him tomorrow.

EDIT: Don't know anything about Trinder. His stats say he has a +ve return on investment
at Launceston of nearly 7%, and avg winning price of $6.70, with 1 winner in 6 starters ( avg)
getting the biscuits.

Hopefully Thommo's services tomorrow will improve that.

Well "luck" pretty well deserted Thommo at Launceston - a win @ $2.70 and two placings ... uninspiring stuff.

EDIT: And his effort at Port MacQuarrie ... 0ne unplaced ride out of 5 ... for one short priced winner $1.50
Couple of useful placings though ... 3 x 2nds and a 5th.

He's back at his fav track tomorrow ... Royal Tamworth.

At last count, Thommo's last winner brought his career total to 3969,
after a reasonable week by his standards, of 4 winners and 3 placings.

Needs only 11 more winners to total 4,000!    :noteworthy:

No doubt he will reduce that with 5 rides at Brizzie today!
