Pike to Answer Stewards on Lord Tom Ride
5 July
www.westozracing.com
William Pike will front the RWWA stewards on Friday, after they adjourned an inquiry into his ride on favourite Lord Tom in the last race at Belmont yesterday.
Below is the extract from the stewards report:
An Inquiry was held into the reason for DJEDDAH STING (D. Staeck) being checked approaching the 200m. Evidence was taken from Jockeys D. Staeck, Jason Brown (ON THE RECORD), B. Parnham (OUR NAMATJIRA), W. Pike (LORD TOM), T. Turner (OROYA GOLD) and Apprentice J. Hill (ALPINE LAD) and her host trainer Mr A. Mathews.
Jockey W. Pike pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) in that approaching the 200m he allowed his mount to shift inwards and crowd OUR NAMATJIRA inwards onto DJEDDAH STING with this being the major contributing factor to DJEDDAH STING being tightened for room and checking.
This Inquiry was adjourned to allow Jockey W. Pike to further question Jockey D. Staeck until Friday, 6 July 2007 at the offices of Perth Racing at a time to be fixed.

Pike Suspended for 18 Days
7 July 2007
WestOz Racing (http://www.westozracing.com)
Stewards today concluded the Inquiry into the reason for DJEDDAH STING (D Staeck) checking approaching the 200m in Race 8 the Whiskers Handicap run over 1300m held at Belmont Racecourse on Wednesday, 4 July 2007.
Further evidence was taken from Jockey W. Pike the rider of LORD TOM and Jockey D. Staeck.
Jockey W. Pike was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) in that approaching the 200m he allowed his mount to shift inwards and crowd OUR NAMATJIRA (B.Parnham) inwards onto DJEDDAH STING with this being the major contributing factor to DJEDDAH STING being tightened for room and checking.
Jockey W. Pike had his license to ride in races suspended for a period of 18 days to take effect from midnight the 14 July 2007 and to expire midnight 1 August 2007.
Trainers and owners be aware that Pike has elected to take the 9 day rule which will allow his to ride at Belmont next Saturday

WA jockey off to early Hong Kong start
Brad Waters
Monday, 15 June 2009
Young Perth rider William Pike will arrive in Hong Kong on Monday to begin his riding stint earlier than planned to help overcome a jockey shortage.
Pike was offered a six-month contract which was scheduled to begin in the new Hong Kong season in August but headed to Hong Kong on Sunday night.
The leading Perth rider left W A punters with a parting gift after riding a treble at Belmont on Saturday.
Pike will begin riding trackwork on Tuesday morning and will have his first race rides on Sunday.

Big fish. Small pond. Would be interesting to see him take on the big boys in the east full time.

Pike is a gun. He has a good style too, still moves his feet which is few and far between these days.
-
Rode 4 on Saturday too.
Although he hasn't ridden Kalgoorlie too well recently, with 2 close 2nds in the big races :tears:

Oh well, Pikey up to his usual tricks today.
It seems he's intent in parking every one of the Peter's horse back at the tail on the fence. Especially if they are short.
Sets an impossible task for them time and time again
Universal law the latest in a string of them.
He keeps this up and I will have to get a betfair account

Hmmmmm,
Only makes sense if he is seekig to avoid a strong head wind for his mounts

Peters certainly does not want is horses ridden on the pace,
I actually heard him criticize a winning ride of Pike when he led one day,

Considering he rides more winners than anyone over there it can't be as bad as you expect.

Thanks Sobig
I do find that rather strange given the nature of the Belmont & Ascot tracks but they are his horses
-
Agreed wily
-
Sat back smoking the pipe to then storm over the top of them on King River in the 4 :no1:
-
No doubt it will work sometimes but setting too big a task evrry races sees them lose when perhaps they shouldn't
-
That's what you get with Pike and Peters horses. He is obviously under instructions to let most of the horses find their feet and ride them cold and have one last shot at them.
I wouldn't be blaming Pike, blame the trainer. He keeps putting him on so he must be happy with him. You just have to make sure you do your speed maps properly. If there is going to be a lack of speed then steer clear. There are only a couple of good jocks in WA.
-
No sure he does keep putting him on mate. I've noticed Tan and Clint J getting a lot more rides. And not just for the claims
-
I think it's the owner ACER, not the trainer.
Heard Pike interviewed by Bensley on the radio and it seemed that he was the one who chose what to ride if there was multiple runners. Seems like he has a standing that he gets the rides unless they want to claim.
-
Either way they are happy to keep putting him on. He is a good jockey and very strong. The problem is his horses are way underpriced because of this.
Do his stats hold up? I would have thought they did.
-
Just looking at the overall Australian premiership.
Pike way out in front with 193.5 winners and a strike rate of 24.6%.

Sobig,
Congrats to Pikey BUT for favourites I much prefer Lucy to be on them.

Pike makes it 200 winners in WA season
PERTH Jun 29 2016
Boom West Australian jockey William Pike continues to shatter barriers, riding his 200th overall WA winner of the season at Belmont on Wednesday.
Having already bested Paul Harvey's metropolitan Perth mark of 116.5 wins, Pike took out the opening race at Belmont, the Schweppes Maiden Plate over 1000m aboard Sweet Ora.
Swooping down the outside, Pike took the Adam Durrant-trained two-year-old to the lead at the 150m mark and forged clear to win by a length from Carnelian.
The win took Pike's metropolitan tally to 119.5 wins for the season, while he is nearly 50 wins ahead of Dean Yendall (154 winners) in the national race.
"When I first started this is not something I ever thought would be possible and it's definitely a very good feeling," Pike told RSN of his metropolitan record, before reflecting on how he got started in racing.
"One day my uncle introduced me to a trainer named Jack Cockell and it started there.
"I thought I had the greatest apprenticeship ever. I did all the north-west dirt tracks. They are some of the roughest tracks I have ever seen.
"Truth be told I thought that was my calling. I thought I would be a bush rider.
"But somehow, with a lot of support I slowly edged my way into town and good things kept happening."
Having eclipsed Harvey's record, Pike, who rarely rides interstate because of family commitments and frequent books of good rides in Perth admits he'd like to take out a big win in the spring.
His best chance as he sees it right now is the Darren Weir-trained three-year-old Perfect Reflection.
Pike frequently rides for the filly's owners, the Peters family, in Perth and rode her to her five wins from her first five starts, including the Group One Kingston Town Stakes, where she beat Delicacy and Dark Musket, before heading to Melbourne and the Weir stable.
"I would like to focus a little more on getting a bit more recognition and riding a big one somewhere else," Pike said.
"My favourite horse is Perfect Reflection, she has gone over (to Melbourne) and with a good spell I'm sure she'll be over there doing good things"
As for the rest of the season Pike won't be resting on his laurels and hopes he can set a metropolitan record that will stand the test of time.
"They probably said when Paul (Harvey) broke the record that no one would catch it," he said.
"Somewhere near the 125 wins is my target and hopefully that stands for a while."

I've been reading what Wily thinks.

We did not hear a peep from you guys on Wednesday where only 1 win from 6 rides and a 3rd placing.
Failed to place at all on the hotpots in two races of little or no depth..... ie races 2 and 3.
Fours
-
Were they unplaced because of the jockey or just not good enough?
He has laps on all the other WA jocks.
-
Acer,
Actually he does not.
One P Harvey has exactly the same number of placings in his last 350 rides as Pike .
Moreover while blindly backing Pike this season shows a loss doing the same for Harvey shows a 30.7% profit on win bets....
If we look at entire careers it only makes Harvey look the better rider. eg Pikes career win rate is 17%, showing a 22.2% loss on turnover...... compared to Harvey's win % of 23% and a loss of 8.3%.
Quite clearly backing Harvey is the smarter move from a profit perspective. The Pike hype is only causing losses whereas the 'forgotten by some; Harvey is making a remarkable profit meanwhile.
Fours
-
I was quite intrigued with the 5th race yesterday. Before and after the race :bulb:
-
I guess that's the case of lies, lies and damn statistics Fours
Might look good on paper but who in their right mind (other than the likes of Peter Mair) backs every mount
As you would know it's all about doing the form in every race.
I'm a massive Pike fan but it's also great when you find one to beat something he's riding. Case in point was Rebel King a few weeks back. A horse he's ridden in the past but elected to take another mount, it's dropped back in distance and BF kindly served up $11.50 :icecream: Alternatively I'd be well in front on Pike mounts also.
I guess what this proves as there is no right answer.
-
Fours I never said anything about backing all his rides. As if that is ever going to leave you in front.
Although Wiley will disagree I rarely see him put in a stinker of a ride.
Yes Harvey is good but he would have a tenth of the rides Pike does.
-
He is not the best jockey by a mile in WA.
😆😆😆

Stop it Pikey now you are taking the piss!

And a lazy 6 for the day

Just read this and it made me laugh.

i see pike did ok again today

hard to make a book today

-
Hmmmmm
Consider this... Peter Mair could make 30% profit on turnover by mindlessly, and lazily, backing EVERY PH mount this last year or so.
Doing the same for Pike he'd show a very bad loss.
Fours.
-
He reminds me of Nash R.
Good luck to those who follow him solely
-
Is there really people like that though :what:
Surely not.
-
Im certainly not one of them
-
I don't care what his stats show he is the best jock in the west by a fair way. Let's see how Harvey's stats are if he had to ride in every race on horses that are unders. There are obviously those that got stung by a couple of shorties that Pike didn't salute on and no matter what he does from here on in they will continue to get stuck into him.
-
Acer,
Pikes win strike rate and place strike rate are fine ones. However they dont match harveys career strike rate.
Now profit on turnover figures refelct on punter behaviour ........................................................................... rather than the jockeys.
Fours
-
Strike rates/profit etc are not what we have been talking about
-
On paper it looks like Pike could rack up one of those days on Saturday
-
On paper perhaps but on Paper I see they are all owned by Williams so expect him to slaughter a few of them like he does for that stable week in week out.
Finding the ones that will overcome his cold rides and get the splits is the challenge

"Country bumpkin" William Pike would love to ride a winner in Melbourne
By Isaac Ling 8 hours ago
West Aussie wizard William Pike won’t be at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day but the self-described “country bumpkin” reckons he’d be silly not to have a crack if the right opportunity comes down the track.
The jockey who has ridden more winners than anybody in Australia this season will be in Perth doing what he does best on Tuesday - trying to ride as many winners as possible – but said a decent ride in a feature race could lure him to the spring carnival in the future.
“I haven’t really chased much over there [in Melbourne] because of my obligations here but I’m not closed to it,” Pike told Punters.com.au.
“What would it take? Probably something that’s a chance or half a chance. It’d be hard for me to go over for a 100-1 pop and hope because I’m in too good a position here.
“If I got offered a chance in a big race it’d be silly not to have a go.”
Pike has won nine Perth premierships and with a 22-win lead over his closest rivals already in 2017/18, is well and truly on track to make it 10 this season.
With the backing of prominent Perth owner Bob Peters, Pike appreciates that he’s well placed and for the most part he’s happy just to ride as many winners as he can.
But the 31-year-old, who grew up 558km east of Perth in the small town of Coolgardie, admits he does harbour ambitions to boot home a winner in Melbourne before he one day hangs up the saddle.
“Before my career is done I want to get over there [to Melbourne] and make sure I at least ride one metro winner,” Pike said.
“I’ve been over there a couple of times and haven’t really done that well.
“[But] I’m just happy riding as many winners as I can and enjoying the opportunities that I’m getting … I’m just enjoying being on top because I know it doesn’t last forever.”
If the day ever comes that Pike does ride a winner in Melbourne, it’s sure to be a popular one as his reputation for helping battling eastern-state punters “get out” at the end of a tough day has become widespread.
Pike was modest when quizzed about his popularity with punters but said he appreciates the support because it means he’s doing his job well.
“Just recently I’ve had so many people come from different states and say ‘we follow you all the time’,” he said.
“When you stop and think about it for a moment, that these people are showing an interest in me, it feels pretty good. It’s good to know because it must mean I’m doing something right.”
The social media age (#BackPikeDrinkWhatYouLike) has almost undoubtedly enhanced Pike’s reputation but the brilliant rider, who describes himself as “pretty much a country bumpkin”, won’t be joining his fans on Twitter anytime soon.
“I enjoy a bit more of a simple life. I’ve never been up with all of the Twitter and things like that,” Pike said.
“I don’t have any social media. I don’t even have Facebook. I suppose it’s another way of keeping the pressure off myself I guess.”
As a non-drinker, he won’t be joining them at the bar after they’ve backed him in the last either, instead preferring to rush home to his family at his property about an hour away from Ascot.
“I come home as fast as I can so I can see my kids before bed,” he said.
“I live on acreage, about an hour from Ascot and Belmont. I like it and I’ve got chickens and all that.
“If I’m celebrating I’ll have some chocolate basically. I don’t drink and I don’t smoke.”
-
Quite day for the Peters/ Pike combo on saturday
-
7 big hopes for him today.
All bar 2 have drawn well do he shouldn't stuff them up too much
-
You beat me to it Wily. It could be a fat day for him although a couple, while having undeniable chances look a little skinny imho.
-
Taken a parlay 3,4,5,6
:x:
-
One outta one.
-
Need him to kick this last one home
-
Far out he's a turd :tears:
-
Not sure the horse was good enough Wily - couldn't really see where he made a mistake there.
-
I think the horse is good enough but sitting on the fence until they straighten then deciding to have a dig was never going to work.
All the momentum was with the others but then again, we know thats what he does
-
Wily
I reckon sometimes you'd prefer to lose the bet over in Perth so you can point to Pike costing you dough.
-
I suspect you're right :chin:

Should be winning the first 7 races tomorrow. 5 at worst

JWH
I'll tell you which ones I'm backing in my multi and then you can back the ones I'm not. Your bound to clean up
-
Okay, taken my parlay on races 2,3,6&7.
Clearly 1 of those will lose and races 1,4&5 will provide a winner for him. Given the draws race 4 may be his next best
-
I'm his biggest fan Wily but gee you're optimistic :chin:
1 is a first starter, 2 he's on he fav (I like 6), 3 should get home, 4, 5 & 6 aren't over the line, 7 should win and strangely not riding the Peters horse in the last  may only because they want to claim.
So really 3 & 7 look locks, the rest a chances in tough races.
-
I'm his biggest fan Wily but gee you're optimistic :chin:
Wily's setting him up for a bagging.
-
Nah Geoffrey, it will be my failure
-
2 down 2 to go :clap2: :clap2:
-
His ride in Race 5 was very poor - as was all the jockeys on the favoured runners.
The thought occurred to me that there were some not trying very hard to win that race :chin:
-
3 down 1 to go :x:
-
:tears: :tears: I thought I was home at the 200m

Given the way the marbles have fallen can't see too much joy for pike at the big meeting on Saturday.
May snag a minor winner in race 2

I reckon Warner is his love child

Adulation of him is lost on me. Probably should have been returned to the Shaky Isles when he was caught up to the nonsense he was involved with. Plenty I know have much greater respect for his younger brother.

That is J Cassidy's problem.
He was so dodgy, over such a long period he is seen by many as just a crook.
He lost me forever with his losing ride on Century Kid in the 2002 Concorde Stakes.
It was so blatant and yet gets away with it.
I suppose when racing's "first lady" and Singo are the beneficiaries, nothing much is going to happen to you.

Pikey wants to come east and ride in the big pond.
Best he stay over there after yesterday's Display.
Diabolically bad

He's always said he's happy in the west, pottering around his farm with the kids :chin:
Outside of Royal Star, I can't see what else would even remotely qualify as 'diabolical'?
Sometimes I reckon you'd only be happy Wily when he rides 8/8 even if he only has 6 rides on the day!
-
You're probably right gin
I thought his rides on Bold Success, Fairtrusive, Penalty Point & State Solicitor were his typical "formula" rides. He was insipid and showed no incentive to put the horses into the races when they needed to
In saying that, I think he lifted the River to a win, that's his strength in my mind, not his tactical nous

Well, that's a nice thing for you to say Wily. emthup :noteworthy:
-
D Oliver & D Lane have both moved to Melbourne and achieved success, whereas C Parnham, who is second on the Perth premiership behind Pike with 44% of Pike's wins, tried and went back West with his tail between his legs. Pike is a much better rider than Parnham, but whether he is as good as the other two I am unsure, as both made the move East before being top dogs in the West.
Could be Pike is a big fish in a small pool.

Put any other top 5 jock in Perth on the Peters horses and they would win more races.

Widely reported it's how Peters likes his horses ridden. Plenty of times I don't agree with it but you pretty much know what you are going to get before backing them. Remember the bloke with the gold makes the rules.

You won't have to worry about Pikey for a while wiley,

i wonder if WOD is keeping the stats before and after of the Williams/Peters teams while the master , Pike is out ?
will be interested to see the stats 8-)
-
I think he's been exposed already. Peters runners are batting at 100% win rate since Pikes slaughter jobs and suspension last week

As far as I know 3 runners yesterday for 1 win is not 100%

You need to get another maths teacher I think wily.
As far as I know 3 runners yesterday for 1 win is not 100%
correct but I was taking the piss.
-
Welcome back Pikey. Glad to see you've learnt from Parnham whilst you were on the sidelines. Sailing down the outside and no moronic "formula" rides
Mind you it's early days

3 winners today thus far.
$1.50, $1.55 and $1.80
He is on the last prepost favourite King Of Chaos.
-
Another 3 or 4 live chances as well. As long as one isn't the 7th race. Im all over the toppy
-
Oops. I meant the 2nd last race which is the 8th not 7th
-
He has a full book of rides today in the 9 races.
The prepost prices for his mounts a
R1: $2 (Fav)
R2: $1.70 (F)
R3: $2 (F)
R4: $4.80 (2nd Fav)
R5: $1.75 (F)
R6: $4.20 (2F)
R7: $3.10 (F)
R8: $1.65 (F)
R9: $3 (F)
-
Im betting against him in the 7th and 8th so he'll win those 2
-
Bit like me Wily, I can never catch this bloke.
-
First three winners.
His mount in the 4th race is the $4.60 fixed price second favourite - $1.50 on the NSW TAB at the moment, $1.40 on Tatts
-
I took a system 4 on the first 5 races. The big win eludes me given he just got rolled. Hope the 5th race salutes to give me some return :x:
-
If it wasn't for his slaughter job on Regal Moon I'd be alive with 1,5 & 7 in the quaddy
Thankfully his ride on Press the Petal helped me win on Prying Tom
-
Gee you're a tough marker Wily, you even blame him for one getting beat when he isn't even riding it!
-
:shy: :shy: :shy: Now that is ironic.
The good news is I'll forgive Maddy Brown for getting beat. She's very cute
-
Where is he?
On a holiday?
-
Got 17 days for careless riding on the 10th Feb at Pinjarra
Back 28th
-
emthup
-
There, to my eye has been a vast difference in how many of the horses are being ridden. Kirby, Parnham & Porter are doing very well
-
4 out of the first 5 winners and the ride on the winner of the first leg of the quaddie was real heartbeat stuff but he got it home :)
-
If I had to pick a jock to lift a horse in the last few strides, it’s Pike.
They do seem to lift for him
-
Eh,
Recently failed to get a single placegetter when an unbackable price in the jockey challenge
Fours
lesson - more serious on Saturday!

6 winners from 8 races. Pike followers will be celebrating tonight.
I got the quaddie up. $20.40 in NSW
-
I got the quaddy too, jumping for joy
Great effort and don’t forget the “training” effort as well
4 wins for Bob Peters
-
6 winners from 8 races. Pike followers will be celebrating tonight.
I
7 rides in those 8 races
-
in rare form
-
I said to a mate on Wednesday he could nearly ride 7 when I looked through the fields :chin:
He's ended up with 5, 2 2nds beaten under 1/2 length and one failure.
not a bad days work
-
Wonderful effort. God he almost got Big Caroline home and that’s saying something.
Riding exceptionally well
-

That must have hurt :chin:  :p
-
Not at all mate. Been backing him for since he came back from that break. He’s certainly made a clear decision to ride differently. The peters horses are not being ridden as they were.
I think I said here recently he’s the most effective whip rider in the country
-
Classic example of each-way betting.
-
JWH
I highlighted his shortcoming and they don't appear to be there now. He's made adjustments and I'm big enough to change my mind about him. Nothing each way in that
-
Bloody hell. He can ride the card on Saturday.
Bob Peters has 6 races sewn up but which of his 10 runners will it be
-
It's not beyond the realms that he could ride the card today :bulb:
-
I’ve taken a system 4,5,6
-
I’ve taken a system 4,5,6
I've multied the lot up on B365 from trebles upwards 8-)
#backpike

I think the Peters Cereise colours might get more winners than pikey
-
It's not beyond the realms that he could ride the card today :bulb:
Talk about putting the mock on a bloke.
-
Yes :shy:
Although it ended up 2 winners, 2 2nds, 2 3rds & 2 unplaced
Thank god for Mississippi Delta :clap2:
-
I needed Festival Miss for a big result :tears:
-
Where is he today?
-
Suspended for 10 days from a ride on Cup day.
-
emthup
-
Good day for the man.
-
It could be a Pikey Christmas with a number of strong chances tomorrow
Good chances on Galaxy Star, Celebrity Dream, Nordic King & I don't mind Bon Voyage @ $9.5 too :chin:
-
Bon Voyage has struck a good field. Pike has got it beat at his last 2 rides on it but with the smaller field and fast pace, he should, surely, be able to navigate a clear path to victory. The toppy is a talent
He also has the resuming Asdserto who goes bloody well. Just hope he doesnt win the last 8-)
-
I haven't dug that far in yet Wily, just skimmed over the fields.
Bon Voyage gets a weight turn around from last time. Granted the toppy is good but if he gets clear air he'll be close at the finish, $9.50 is worth a shot :chin:
-
Feast your eyes on his fcking ride on the 2s on fav in the 3rd today.
Putrid
-
A few things there Wily, the horse has 19 starts for 1 win, I couldn't take odds on it and in his defense the gap looked like it was there as they swung into the home straight but slammed shut not long after causing him to check.
-
Gin, He had no need to put the horse in that position in such a small field.
Can’t agree that it’s win record has anything to do with it. It was odds on because it’s last 2 runs have been rippers.
It should have won both and it wasn’t the horses fault that it hadn’t.
The way it hit the line when clear highlights that it should have won. Even the commentator cried “strike me pink”
Surely he knew the despised outsider who was leading would collapse but he still changed direction and drove right up behind it
Simply, he hooked it and provided enough grey to pass master.
If a 4kg Claimer rode it th3 would be hauled before the stewards
Pike rode to his ego and it wasn’t necessary
-
First two.
-
Wonder what the stewards report said from his hook job on Wednesday :what:
-
TYCOON LEGEND –Impeded from on straightening until being steadied and being taken outwards near the 100m. Rider was questioned in relation to his mount being blocked in the straight and he advised that he was reluctant to shift the gelding outwards prior to the 600m to improve behind a runner that was racing erratically and consequently he elected to attempt to improve through the field but shortly after straightening became impeded when a runner secured a passage in advance of his him causing his mount to become impeded and he was then further held upwhen the runner he was following commenced to tire before eventually getting clear near the 100m. He further added that the gelding is best suited by being ridden in a patient manner and due to circumstances in the race, the gelding had been unable to improve at vital stages when becoming held up. Trainer advised the gelding is best suited when not having to work hard through the early and middle stages andis able to be saved for a late finishing sprint. After considering all of these comments, Stewards took no further action.
-
So there you go, Wily, he was impeded not hooked.
-
Well Wily it's nommed for Wednesday & has P Hall up instead of Pike.
-
Yep . .
Impeded . . 3 times
Blocked . . . 1 time
Held Up . . . 1 time
You're a hard marker WOD . .
-
Thanks Sobig
Arthur, the point is a 2s on fave should never have been put in that position for it to happen. Very small field and had chances to get in the clear.
-

Hope you followed up Wily.
Odds on last week, $6.20 on BF today  :clap2:
-
I did mate. Took the $4 with an odds to to $5.50 :clap2:
-
So there you go, Wily, he was impeded not hooked.
Go figure, stewards told me theres no further questions to be asked
2's on and driven up behind bums in an 8 horse field. Today, clear air all the way in a 13 field and wins. Nothing to see
-
I know im bleeting a bit but go and look at the book of rides that day and see the difference in how they were ridden.....if you can be bothered
If not, just blackbook Touch of Silver from the last race that day, watch the replay and bear in mind that the trainer said before the race that he didnt think he had the horse was ready and it wasnt a chance. The jock made sure it wasn't. Followed instruction to a T. Well done Pikey ;)
If the bloke rode in Victoria I could reopen the " Sal Perna, I smell a rat" thread
-
you could also look at the facts ?
every horse he rides is unders ?
he is by far the best jockey in WA ?
he rides the horses of the biggest and most high profile stable in WA ?
my advice is to bet around him , ie find the horse that he is not on and therefore overs ?
your choice mate
-
It’s not the way I bet or do the form rats. It’s not a pure % based approach.
I just wish he’d stop hooking them. I’d be a lot richer
-

Geez he waited to pull the stick. Horse picked up once he did. I needed that

Wonder what the stipes said re his ride in Regal Power last week :tin:
Mind you the up side is that they are now betting $8 for th Derby so he got what he wanted

Where's the $8 Wily? Best I can see is $3.50 :chin:

Yes mate, buggered if I know where I saw that.
In saying that he looks a rolled gold special to me so $3.50 is good value
-

Surely he won't hook it tomorrow

Wily, old mate, you must be very close to libelling this bloke.
Just a thought :/
-
---------- the libel is about who may have actually been thinking and capable of converting that.
-
Wily, old mate, you must be very close to libelling this bloke.

Nah, hooking it means taking inside runs rather than hooking around their heels 👠
Shortest way home

Credit where it’s due
Big win

Long odds on to win the Derby. I actually like the stablemate. The filly each way
-
With even luck could ride race 2 to 8 on Saturday :chin:
-
Wily will make a fortune.
-
JWH, I always take a multi with the Peters Cerise & white colours despite him being on
He’s lucky Bob Peters puts him in he best horses in Perth.
Thankfully he’s not riding lavistarr on Saturday given the slaughter jobs. At his last 2. Get On!!!
It will be wet over there which always makes it hard due to lack of exposure for most horses
His rides are
R2 Peters bred horse. Total Attraction is a nice horse but under the odds at odds on. Forgotten Star the value
R3 Peters bred. Western Pride is fave and talented but a wide draw means pike will struggle, Gates Of Babylon & Coming Around for me
R4 Mystery Miss another sticky draw. Will get back but she is also talented a Peters bred. 1 & 2 are better value
R5 Peters bred. Battle Storm is a ripper. Should win this. I could even ride it
R6 Electric Light. Back to suitable distance loves wet. Misty Metal & Rock Magic are better bets
R7 Eye Art. Favourite but pike has slaughtered Lavistarr at its last 2 who’s in the same race.
R8 Masquerade another impeccably bred Peters horse. Well drawn which pike needs but 6 & 8 are the big threats
Do with that what you may
-
3 Bob Peters horses saluted for Pikey on Saturday. I thought Battle Storm was the most impressive
3 very nice ones resuming tomorrow as well
-
On racenet Aaron Mills pondered :bulb:
“Interpreting what’s going on when Willie Pike switches rides is something I’m still struggling to get my head around after all these years but sometimes it’s better not to read too much into it. Essential Spice backs up quickly from last weekend when unleashing an impressive finishing burst to get away for an easy win. No Pike today”
Well, Aaron got the answer today
Pikey’s mount which went around as fave missed the kick and never got a clear run at any stage whilst Essential Spice sailed down the outside to win by 6
-
Then he brings the good thing of the day home in Festival Miss :clap2:

Will ride a treble at Bunbury today
Races 1,5,& 6
-
2 out of 3. $100 all up
-
Two from two
-
3/4 and his ride on the 4th was drifting like a gale. It started at 2.8 and out to 4.4.
-
Got rolled on the $1.45 shot.
Mayb3 it was the horse but it didn’t seem to be his same vigorous whip ride.
Maybe spooked by Michael Walker
-

How often do you see a shorty go down in a small field :chin: Regardless it's hardly the most honest conveyance :confused1:
-
Wily will be salivating over the book of rides that Pike has this Saturday :icecream:
-
Got 2 in my black book, Gin bu5 he should be getting 4 or 5.
It just depends which ones. The stable mates might knock him off in a couple.
A bigger day for Peters than Pike, I suspect :chin:
-
Don’t know who I hate more Pikey or myself.
Had all of the winners anchored with Forceful & Sentimental Gift who both ran 2nd.
Greed & stupidity are the 2 punting evils🤮. I have both .......in spade fulls 🤪
-
It can be cruel Wily.
I thought he had 8 good chances out of 9 - didn't like race 2 where he ran 2nd yet from 9 rides he's had 5 winners, 3 2nds and a slaughter of Stageman who went to the line untested
I won on the day but of course I loaded into Stageman  still it was a peach on Sublime Image in the last :icecream:
-
If anyone wonders why I hate the bloke. Look at the ride that Gin points on Stageman.
Insipid compared to the way he ride a few others
-
Take a bow William Pike :noteworthy: :noteworthy:
-
Personally I’m thanking the horse.
Regal Power won the race for our man Pikey :no1:
Oh, and Bob Peters who told him to ride a better race than his slaughter job on the one in previous race
-
There were a couple of slaughter jobs in that race.
Not sure why but whenever you back Pike in the Peters colours, he always seem to be back end of the field or is just me?
-
Very true Jeunes
He often seems to think it’s a 600m straight as well
-

Because that's where Bob prefers his horses to be ridden.

Who gives a shit how Bob prefers them ridden, it's how Wily prefers them ridden (to win every time) that counts, for Chrissakes.

emthup .

Geoffrey & Sobig, I pick up on your sarcasm but anyone with a instinct of racing can tell there’s those that Pikey thinks are winning chances and those that are not
The stark difference in riding style is there for all to see :bulb:
Thankfully, I suspect old Bob gets the shits occasionally and gives William a wake up call. His comments after Regal Power saluted certainly indicate this
My advice to old Bob is to be a tad more ruthless and less loyal :no1:
-

Come on Wily, I was counting the money at the 800 you could see him start to move and angle out looking for clear air.

Perth racing Piked
The prominent role that WP plays in Perth racing is akin to the situation in Hong Kong where a couple of jockeys similarly rule the roost.
One problem is the pressure put on these riders and the scrutiny of their every move.
Another is the implicit distortion of the betting markets for these races -- a real trap when the fields are inflated with runners cluttering the race but unable to win.
..... .......all up, these distortions make the racing unattractive as a betting opportunity.

Pete, if you can't win in WA or Hong Kong you should seriously think about taking up another hobby. :bulb:

God almighty I've got him finishing 1st or 2nd in every race
Each way multis perhaps?
-
God almighty I've got him finishing 1st or 2nd in every race

Go for one of those combo multis for win and a separate one for the place. Even if he does not ride a winner and finishes in the place for all the races, you could have a nice a holiday to watch him in Perth live.
We will cheer for you and Pike in every race. 8-) 8-)
-
First one up but thank God the horse has talent
Looked like a slaughter job turning for home
Phew
-
On a few chances tomorrow.
Where's Wily's mocker?
-
Once again I’ve got about 6 of Bob Peters in my black book but will end up backing the wrong ones
Pike only on 2 of them after slaughtering the others at their recent starts so god only knows what will happen
-
Surely it's Stageman's day

Not when ridden like that in a race that was devoid of pace
Especially after his ride on Electric Light in the previous

Not when ridden like that in a race that was devoid of pace
Especially after his ride on Electric Light in the previous
Not saying this happens regularly but sometimes when you watch WA races, Pike’s opponents sometimes seem to race him at times instead of racing against the field.
He is up near the lead as the leader kicks but the n runs out of steam leaving him in front too soon. The other ones are the races devoid of pace but prior to the race, you could see a lot of pace.
Strange day all over the country yesterday with many favourites getting beaten.
-
Some of the rides are baffling to say the least.
I get more black book runners in Perth than any other state 💡
-
Not when ridden like that in a race that was devoid of pace
Especially after his ride on Electric Light in the previous
Having gone over the replays quickly it looks like it was a day where you couldn't make ground wide :chin: seemed to be a lane about 4 horses wide and anything that pulled out wider just seemed to labour.
Both of Pike's rides mentioned here, Flirtini was another, nothing in the Railway etc etc.
Interesting Pike stayed inside in the last, popped off the fence in the straight and won easily.
-
One out each leg in the quaddie :chin:
-
I took Perfect Jewel over Electric light in the 3rd leg
Red publisher also a chance to knock pike off in the first leg at big odds
-
A Pikey special, again, in the 2nd at Bunbury
Why Bob, why
-
A Pikey special, again, in the 2nd at Bunbury
Why Bob, why
He is rocks or diamonds. Winner in race 1 and race 3.
My tip is keep doubling up on him when he loses till you win. You will be either very rich or bankrupt.
-
He’s sending me bankrupt and Bob Peters......well, he has too much and doesn’t punt so he doesn’t know what the slaughter jobs are costing him
-
.............. a not-wily one has too much to say about too-much to be taken at face value .... and so much of it is just provocative nonsense.
..... he needs to be identified as a real person and not a creative foil for the forum promoters.

God I wish I had the know-how to post that 'popcorn-eating' .gif right now.
This should be good.

I’m peter mair

Shocking ride on Western King yesterday, had the main chances back coming to the bend and only had to follow it through but hooked wide straight into a dead end and had to check costing any chance
The TAB have a market up for today -
$2.10 for 3+ winners
$5.50 for 4+
$26 for 5+
I've got him on 5 good hopes :chin:

I’ve got him winning another 3 today

Same spot, same horse but persists inside to take the gap and salutes at $8.50
A little faith goes a long way :icecream:

6 rides tomorrow and 5 are favourites
-
4 winners. Some form of multi would have returned a reasonable divvy
-
TABs market today is worth a look
$1.80 2+winners
$4.80 3+
$21 4+
He's got 5 strong chances among 7 rides emthup
-
Well, he got the only one that mattered to me. Thankfully
You can certainly tell when WP is keen, he certainly had the whip going big time in showmanship
-
Thankfully his vigour couldn’t get Massimo home. Luke’s Gold @ $22
Keep willie out of the next 2 legs and I reckon a quaddie beckons
-
Will my Willie curse strike?
Got 3 & 11 going in the quaddy. I don’t need pikey killing me

I do like the #3.

Hope you’re right SW but the 11 is the big divvy
I think Bessy is the best unhebrace but a horrible draw
-
How many today?
9 rides. I’m not sure about races1,2 or 4 all winning but the other 6 are right in it.
All up 9 placegetters?
-
The all up over after the first
-
I didn’t think that thing would win but didn’t back the winner
I find those shorties get beaten over there in the early races.
-
William Pike deserves a national 'honorific' award for courage under fire
.........he turns up............ the hopes of the world on his shoulders ......... he rides .......he wins.........he loses
---------- and then he turns up again..............does the same ........... he handles pressure that would bring others undone
...............sustained courage ............under sustained fire.
-
Stunning book of rides on the weekend :o
-
R1 - 2. Warbler
R2 - 3. Boomtastic
R3 - 5. Sentimental Gift
R4 - 12. Continuance
R5 - 6. Chantrea
R6 - 6. Truly Great
R7 - 5. Not to Be Mist
R9 - 11. Secret Statue
R10 - 9. Long Beach
9 rides, 7 favs + 1 joint fav, the other runner Truly Great was unlucky last start and will be hard to beat @ $5
-
I like Cambist to beat his hot pot, Chantrea & reckon Secret Statue the weakest ride.
The rest🤔 looks like a 4,5,6,7 system multi😆
-
spoiler alert....
What is Pike's strike rate and ROI on hot pots?
Food for thought...... what is the ROI when Pikes mounts get beaten or even better run unplaced in exotics and your roughy is in the result?

Yes, his “ability” fluctuates

"fluctuates" or variance of a kind.....
Most wont do the work but maybe the ROI can be more deeply looked at for divergence from the ''mean'' in certain areas.....
Fours
BUTTTTTT remember what the horse is capable of is important and should not be forgotten when you look at those stats

Couldn't you say the same for every top jock? You're basically betting on 'luck' (or the lack of) to create your dividend.
-
Gintara,
For those that do the work..... and it is work.... partly because the stats change over time...... there is money to be made in this area.
Pike's figures are in fact lousy in some areas. This is important knowledge.
Lousy is a relative term of course - lousy for a top rated jockey that is.
Pike's stats are also outstanding in some areas but ROI may be no better than so called poor jockeys due to over and under betting respectively.
What the horse can and can't do is important. I have yet to see a jockey put a horse on his back and carry it over the line.

You could say the same in reverse. Plenty of money to be made backing Pike mounts, It's all about being on the right one/s.
It's really a moot point otherwise as no one would be backing them all.

5 down 4 winners

-
Piked .... tears before bedtime
-
Even you could have found most of those Pete :chin:
-
The magnificent Pike
I had the 5 that won and the 4 that did not -- coupled in running doubles on Friday night.
The prices of the winners were better than expected.
............ can someone say where the race replays for WA racing are available, please?
-
The magnificent Pike.
The prices of the winners were better than expected.?
Oh but you were bitching about the prices always being unders.
So you were wrong again 💡
-
Perth racing Piked
The prominent role that WP plays in Perth racing is akin to the situation in Hong Kong where a couple of jockeys similarly rule the roost.
Another is the implicit distortion of the betting markets for these races -- a real trap when the fields are inflated with runners cluttering the race but unable to win.
..... .......all up, these distortions make the racing unattractive as a betting opportunity.
I😆

Yesterday's Belmont meeting

-
............ thanks Sobig............. a different sign language in WA
-
Piked -- two, too-short, today --
-
Only for those who snoozed. They bet black figures on both of them early.
-
Peter in a coma......still
-
Pike breaks riding record.

Piked .......an astonishing performer in WA racing ......
.,................ he cannot turn water into wine ...... usually there will be tears before bedtime....... Pike makes WA racing a backwater ........ much the same as HK racing has been corrupted as a local focal point, with little of substance in the way of global relevance.
A decade ago, RVL had the racing world by the balls ............ and blew it ............ why?

Pete normally there's very little I agree with of your musings but at least I can get the gist of what you mean. The above just looks like delusional ravings, none of it is coherent nor makes sense.
-
Imagine the idiot in a boardroom
-
spoiler alert....
What is Pike's strike rate and ROI on hot pots?
Food for thought...... what is the ROI when Pikes mounts get beaten or even better run unplaced in exotics and your roughy is in the result?
Fours
ps you know I know the answers.
Interestingly Daniel O'Sullivan on Twitter - @TRBHorseRacing produced some figures around Pike this week.
"Pikey in the last" is much more a punting myth than fact.
W Pike in 2019/2020 season:
All Rides: 233 / 828 & -4.8% POT
Last race of each meeting: 16 / 95 & -29.5% POT
A much more accurate catch cry would be "Pikey in the first!" 34 / 89 & +12.5% POT
Further on in the thread he states the rest of the jocks average out at -7.9%
-
I think the most telling stats would be around Pike on the Bob Peters horses
-
Guess who posted this nonsense in recent weeks?
6 rides tomorrow and 5 are favourites // 4 winners. Some form of multi would have returned a reasonable divvy // I’ve got him winning another 3 today // How many today? // 9 rides. I’m not sure about races1,2 or 4 all winning but the other 6 are right in it. All up 9 placegetters? // Stunning book of rides on the weekend
...............and guess what ........ the pre-post prices say he is booked to ride the program tomorrow
Alas the wily ones faith is wavering -- all he could say yesterday was:
I think the most telling stats would be around Pike on the Bob Peters horses
.......... more tears before bedtime
-
More driveling from Mair.
What’s your point :nowink:
-
Honestly I doubt he could tell you if he read it back himself :shy:
-
Piked again
............. another day ..... another dose of reality ........... Pike should be given a national medal of honour for turning up under the pressure punters put on him.
-
Hope you took the $3 they bet on Thursday for Silkinize Pete? :clap2:
Thought the overs god were going to strike but bit of Pike magic saw it home :icecream:
-
........... like a welcome holiday
Earlier this week, it emerged Pike is planning on basing himself in Melbourne for a period of the spring.
-
..... and why wouldn't he with the likes of Showmanship & Regal Power over there. Watching the trials the other day (you do watch trials Pete?) he looks like he'll have some fun based on those two trials.
-
Add Arcadia Queen in as well👏
-
W Pike is in the big-smoke
William Pike almost ready to ride at Caulfield Saturday
.................. he needs the right cattle ........not all from WA ... hopefully the 'connections' in Victoria will give him a go.
-
WP........... a very good impression ........ subtle showmanship
-
Too subtle for you to find it
-
Due to some very favourable draws he’s got a good book today
-
🤮
Cost me the F4 on Arcadia Queen
I had the 3 bolters🤣
-
All the 'but he should come East' haters have gone quiet
The $8 Doubtland was sweet :icecream:
-
I do wish he showed a tad more vigour on Arcadia Queen
-
If he’s leant to ride Flemington a bit better I have him pegged for 3 winners🍾
-
Well, so much for that.
He was pathetic on Queen of Rocks from the great draw🥵
-
I thought he truly was going to be the wizard and get Kementari home but as usual it saw the winning post :/
-
..... and to think there 'were' people who thought he couldn't ride
:clap2: :clap2: :noteworthy: :clap2: :clap2:
Hail King William :king:
-
He can ride, sometimes.
Only need to see my tips today for proof🤪
-
Oh Willie
-
The others might just be lucky he doesn't have a ride in race 2 this week, strong chances everywhere :shy:
Looks to have a mortgage on the quaddie legs
-
Gin, some very sticky draws to deal with
-
Gin, some very sticky draws to deal with
They all go back Wily.
In Pike we trust
-
The cerise & white will have a bigger day
-
Oh dear Chantrea & Western Empire
-
Not sure what he did wrong Wily?
Chantrea was always a risk and the distance and she was flying home as he squeezed through the gap and he clearly didn't want to lead of Western Empire, horse looked all at sea.
Been a funny old day over there.
You'd have to give him marks for the Adornment ride? I can't remember if ever seeing him take off like that on one :chin: 8-)
