He's always said he's happy in the west, pottering around his farm with the kids
I heard his say it a fair bit lately. Seems to be changing his mind
" the 31-year-old, who grew up 558km east of Perth in the small town of Coolgardie, admits he does harbour ambitions to boot home a winner in Melbourne before he one day hangs up the saddle.
“Before my career is done I want to get over there [to Melbourne] and make sure I at least ride one metro winner,” Pike said.
“I’ve been over there a couple of times and haven’t really done that well.
“[But] I’m just happy riding as many winners as I can and enjoying the opportunities that I’m getting … I’m just enjoying being on top because I know it doesn’t last forever.”
If the day ever comes that Pike does ride a winner in Melbourne, it’s sure to be a popular one as his reputation for helping battling eastern-state punters “get out” at the end of a tough day has become widespread.
