Astonishing lack of judgement. Experienced jockey like that should know he has a duty of care for the welfare of fellow jockeys.

Would warrant a disqualification as opposed to a suspension IMO.

Sadly Racenet is a Murdoch product. So in other words it has absolutely zilch to do with journalism. Like all his other products ; I decided many years ago that if his grubby organization has anything to do with anything I wish to read then I am better off finding an alternative source of information. As for that jockey Today ; he must be relieved to a certain point. His recklessness Today could have easily cost a young bloke his life. Hope he feels satisfied when he counts his fee.

Ok looks like we are in agreement Bowmans ride was disgusting. I watched it a few times hoping he’d say the horse shifted out on its own but read that he told the stewards he thought the move he took was safe.

If I put myself in the place of the fallen jockeys family Bowman would need to watch his back from now on. It could easily have ended up much worse.

Bowman needs to be booted for a very long time,

I notice the Chief Steward on the Day was one W Birch. He has in the past , while located in Queensland been shown the door. Now he has some how risen from the proverbial and turned up in Sydney. Gee doesn't that inspire confidence when you realize what a hillbilly operation exists north of the Tweed.

I think there is enough evidence there for them to make a preliminary finding. To just leave it at "As A. Adkins, the rider of Hot 'N' Hazy,
was unavailable to provide evidence due to being transported to hospital, the inquiry was adjourned." is not good enough.

Andrew will be on a morphine drip post-op and then on strong pain relief for some time to come. It would be a reasonable guess to say he won't be available for many weeks.

Hugh Bowman should probably be stood down pending the availability of Andrew Adkins. It would generate public anger if he is allowed to ride on Wednesday or next Saturday.

I think the stewards have made an error of judgement and miscalculated people's anger over this.

Lady Banff - Passing the 300m was severely checked, resulting in its rider, J. Collett, becoming
unbalanced and the filly taking no further part in the event.

Smart Image – Slow to begin. For some distance approaching the 300m was held up on the heels of
Mr Colorful and then for a short distance was placed awkwardly between Mr Colorful and Duchess.

Bravado – Shortly after the start was tightened for room between Lady Banff, which shifted in, and
Oscar Zulu, which was taken out by Centimental.

Mr Colorful – Jumped awkwardly.

Oscar Zulu – Tightened for room at the start. Passing the 300m was severely checked, resulting in its
rider, L. Magorrian, becoming unbalanced and losing the use of both stirrup irons, and the gelding taking
no further part in the event.

Hot 'N' Hazy – An inquiry was opened into the reason for the colt falling and dislodging its rider,
A. Adkins passing the 300m. Evidence was taken from H. Bowman (Smart Image), G. Schofield
(Mr Colorful), App. L. Day (Sunborn) and J. Collett (Lady Banff). As A. Adkins, the rider of Hot 'N' Hazy,
was unavailable to provide evidence due to being transported to hospital, the inquiry was adjourned. A
post-race veterinary examination revealed Hot 'N' Hazy to have sustained a catastrophic injury to its
near-foreleg and the colt was euthanised. Hot 'N' Hazy was transported to Sydney University Veterinary
Teaching Hospital, Camden, for post-mortem.

Centimental – S. Clipperton, rider of 4th placegetter, Centimental, lodged a protest against Bravado,
being declared 3rd placegetter, alleging interference passing the 100m. Whilst Stewards acknowledged
that Bravado did shift out passing the 100m taking Centimental wider, they could not be comfortably
satisfied that had the interference not occurred Centimental would have beaten Bravado to the finish
and, therefore, dismissed the protest. Tightened for room at the start.

Shaik – Tightened for room at the start.

Duchess – Raced wide and without cover after the 800m. Passing the 100m was hampered and taken
wider when Centimental was taken out by Bravado. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the
filly to have been galloped on its off-hind leg and also to have lost its off-hind plate.

Sunborn – Leaving the 500m commenced to overrace and had to be steadied from the heels of
Duchess. Passing the 300m was severely checked, resulting in its rider, app. L. Day, becoming
unbalanced and the filly taking no further part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed
Sunborn to be lame (3/5) in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr E. Cummings was advised that a veterinary
clearance will be required before Sunborn is permitted to race/barrier trial again.

Bowman should have stood himself down......needs to go and have a real good think.
All the evidence a racing steward would need to see is right before their eyes.

No doubt if Neville Nobody did this he would have been stood down immediately.

Surely Bowman won't be turning up at a racetrack anywhere soon.

Part of Bowman's evidence at the initial inquiry after the last :

Bowman explained the incident from his point of view.

“I endeavoured to make a run to the outside of Glyn Schofield (on Mr Colorful) which I had every right to but in doing so I was going to have to move Andrew slightly but I felt that I was able to do so,” Bowman said.

He's just admitted that he made the intentional decision to make contact with Adkins' mount, hasn't he?

All of you Keyboard experts should get off your high horse, better, more professional and caring horsemen than Bowman do not exist in the jockey ranks, riding is a dangerous and knife edge business, If Jockeys didn't ride so short they would have 10 times more control of their mounts but that is all jockeys, not just Bowman, punishment is more about intent than the extent of injuries to the fallen jockeys, you can't penalise someone for an accident to match the time out for the injured party....what if a Jockey was killed.....do you want the death penalty?
Bottom line is it doesn't matter whether Hugh was to blame or not it was an accident, in Horse racing accidents happen, no one wants them but if you aren't going to ride competitively you may as well give it away, no one would feel worse than Hugh,
I remember when Ken Russel was killed riding a horse called Tuig, I think it was Corey Brown who was behind him and went over Kenny, it bothered Corey to the point he was on the verge of giving it away

Hmmm,

Regardless of intent or error in judgement I think a case can be made that a % of the at faults jockey earnings should go to the injured party for the length of time the injured party cannot ride. Maybe a cap is needed too on that.

I'm not saying he should be judged on Andrew Adkins injuries, he's lucky his actions didn't kill him and bring down other riders as well. I've watched tens of thousands of races and I still think the ride was dangerous and negligent and one of the worst I've ever seen. Being a nice guy doesn't excuse it. Let's see what the stewards think of it when the inquiry is finished shall we.

I like Bowman as a rider he has a good reputation very clean and professional IMO this incident was out of character ....looking at the vision it was either a serious error of judgment or a reckless and dangerous ride ...once Andrew Adkins is recovered sufficiently to attend the stewards inquiry we'll know the outcome.......which will depend on what if any charge/s he faces and how he responds.

Wondered how long before the "Hughie " fan club would find their voice and tell us all what a great little bloke Hughie is. Didn't take long. This race meant so much to Hughie that by his own comments ; he decided to steer his own mount directly into another runner.
Those are his comments. That is either reckless or probably foul riding. Also add ; without a care for the safety and well being of a fellow rider or his horse. Horse Racing ; last time I looked was not designed as a body contact sport. I saw another instance at Casino recently where a rider also showed apparent disregard for the safety of other riders. Slight difference was that this woman gets about six race rides a year. Little Hughie knows exactly what he did and surely knows what the consequences of his actions could be. No one is suggesting his penalty should match the injury time of the fallen rider. That is just farcical. However the penalty must be sufficient to serve as a deterrent to this sort of "roller game " type riding in the future.

In fact the level of injury to other riders should be taken into account if his actions are found to be negligent and dangerous. This is exactly what happens in any other area of the law. If you drive in a negligent and dangerous manner and cause an accident where no-one is injured your penalty in the courts with be far less than if you take the same actions and kill someone. And rightly so.

Scary scene': Adkins' first helpers rally around hospitalised rider

The jockey who cradled Andrew Adkins' head as he lay on the track with shocking injuries from a race fall has described the "scary scene", as fellow riders rallied around Sydney's former champion apprentice.

On the same day Adkins underwent surgery following an incident which has shaken the Sydney racing fraternity, jockey-room friends Lee Magorrian and Tommy Berry have promised the group 1 winner will return to the saddle.

The pair sprinted down the Rosehill straight to be the first on the scene after Adkins crashed to the turf on Danny Williams' promising two-year-old Hot 'N' Hazy, which was euthanised.

Racing NSW stewards have adjourned an inquiry into the fall until Adkins is able to tender evidence.

Winx's rider Hugh Bowman was questioned on race day over his role in the drama after his mount Smart Image, which went on to win the race, made contact with Hot 'N' Hazy as it searched for a run to the outside of Mr Colorful.

It was Bowman's first race ride in a month after a hernia operation and short holiday before the new season. He finished the meeting with a winning treble, including success on Mugatoo in the Winter Challenge.

Bowman is understood to have spoken to Adkins on Saturday night and stewards are expected to resume the inquiry as soon as possible.

Adkins on Sunday night was in Westmead Hospital's high-dependency ward recovering from surgery, which involved a rod being put into his tibia and a plate fixed to his collarbone.

He also had a drain put in his chest to ease pressure on a collapsed lung, the result of seven fractured ribs.

Adkins is expected to spend two days in the high-dependency ward.

Magorrian, who miraculously managed to stay aboard his mount Oscar Zulu despite both feet coming out of the irons, sprinted back down the track with colleagues Berry and Robbie Dolan once he realised Adkins had fallen.

"He was in a bad way," said Magorrian, who was riding the fourth and final horse on the end of the interference. "It was quite a scary scene.

He was telling me to keep giving him the green whistle. He just said, 'don't stop'

"Andrew is quite a close mate of mine and my natural reaction when he fell, I was quite distraught about it. I was holding his head as well as the green whistle.

"[But] Andrew made it easy for me, Tommy and Robbie Dolan. Even though he was in such a bad fall he was still trying to crack jokes. He was telling me to keep giving him the green whistle. He just said, 'don't stop'."

Still aided by painkillers, Adkins took to Instagram on Saturday night to tell the racing community he was in good spirits. He still had a full memory of the fall.

Adkins rode his maiden group 1 winner aboard Daysee Doom for his old boss Ron Quinton in the Coolmore Classic in 2018, the season after he was crowned Sydney's champion apprentice.

He has had a wretched run with injury since, including a fall during the first race at Winx's farewell raceday during The Championships last year. His injuries from that incident sidelined him for months.

On Saturday's fall, Berry said: "You always expect the worst. I got a good look at what had happened and I'd seen him fall and what had come over the top of him. It was a big relief to see his eyes open and he was talking straight away.

"He'll only come back better and stronger. That's the sort of person he is. It says a lot about his attitude, how resilient he is. He's a tough cookie, a talent, and it's showed since he's come back this time. He's got a lot of good years ahead of him."

It will be quite interesting to see when the Bowman inquiry winds up with Adkins in hospital and recovering.

We are at the end of July and spring racing is just around the corner. Any long suspension will hurt Bowman if imposed in September or later rather than in August.

Without putting pressure on stewards or judging too harshly, will the penalties be lower if guilty because of when it will be imposed rather than during the winter season?

A penalty will hit Bowman in the future too.

Surprise surprise he was given 6 weeks for careless riding no reckless riding charge Birch the acting chief steward is reported to have said 3 months would be the template but consideration given to other factors Mr Colourful shifting out something the horse's rider didn't consider an issue lots of critical comments that this is a far too lenient penalty while not familar with precedents there has to be some IMO he got out very lightly.

Hopelessly inadequate punishment IMO as well.
We were forewarned of this, by the piece of nonsense written by R Callander (remember him?...yeah, fraud) on RNSW propaganda arm ......Racenet.

No doubt at all that "he who calls all the shots" wanted Bowman at his Spring carnival....why?...... because he sees a buck in it!
As far as Andrew Adkins' "good spirits" go......when the reality of bones held together by screws and plates really sinks in .....the 'good spirits' may be hard to find.
