Zac Purton, who leaves next month to take up a contract in Hong Kong, will run second in the jockey's premiership this year with his one winner on Saturday, Legendary Man, taking him to 69 for the season.

Zac Purton rode his first winner in Hong Kong at Wed night's Happy Valley meeting. It was the second meeting of his six-month riding stint. Purton brought Elfhelm home with a bold finish to win the Middle Bay Hdcp 1650m.

Hong Kong-based Australian jockey Zac Purton (who landed 29 winners in his 1st HK season) hopes to keep riding in Asia for "5-8 years unless I get a good offer to come home".

Purton, 25, told Radio TAB: "I've got a contract for the whole of next season, but if I have a successful season I'd like to stay there for between 5-8 years, unless I get a good offer to come home. I still speak to a few trainers here (in Australia), but I'm committed to Hong Hong & I'm happy to be there. The whole reason I went there was for the experience & to ride internationally."

during yesterday's final meeting of the HK season, Australian jockey Zac Purton rode a winning treble (on 5YO gelding Bayview Greyslew, 3YO gelding Telecom Gogo & 3YO gelding Amigo) while fellow Australian jockeys Brett Prebble landed a winning double (on 3YO gelding Algarve & 4YO gelding Deferential) & Darren Beadman also notched a winning double (on 7YO gelding Ever King & 4YO gelding Fortune Haven). In the final jockeys' premiership, Douglas Whyte claimed his 9th HK title with 96 winners, ahead of Prebble in 2nd place (79), Purton 3rd (43) & Beadman 5th (41). (Jul 2)

It is good to see the racing body in HK getting tough on improper relationships while aus stewards will pretend to be tough as usual with sabre rattling.

Out of interest do they ride for a % in HK?

I thought they were on a retainer from the jockey club but wondered if there was a % of the prizemoney  :chin:

Regardless gee he rides Sha Tin well  :clap2: Just seems to always find that spot just off the speed, eases out rounding the bend and sprints away before anyone else gets going.   :noteworthy:

Pretty sure the jockey's percentage there is 7.5%.

That gives Zac $2.8m this year.
