I vow not to bet on the 2016 Melbourne Cup.

Having an abysmal record in punting on that particular race, I only outlaid around $30 or so this year plus a couple of bonus bets.

Put them in a text file and couldn't find it until I went through some folder's this morning.

Listing the results of my bets below, I would hereby like to declare myself as the world's worst Melbourne Cup punter

6.50 @ 41 - Red Cadeaux 24th (died)
50 @ 41 - Snow Sky (bonus bet) 23rd
7.5 @ 41 - Sky Hunter 22nd
19 @ 50 - Hokko Brave 17th
25 @ 26 - Hartnell (bonus bet) 15th

Noted that in the last two Cups I have backed horses that have died.

Someone try and beat that record!

Yeah. We have enough of those on here already - don't need any more.  :stop:

One especially who likes to tell us all about the winners he backs after the races, and another does the same with the stock market - both of them seem to get upset with me when I point this out  :/

Tall Ships races into Melbourne Cup contention.

Was a good win with the 60 kg but I have to question the quality of the opposition. Especially the one I backed - Sontagg - was gone at the 600m and ran dead last. Should have known when it got the blows given the stable

Take the winner out and that was a Benchmark 84 race.

It was a little better than that.

The way he won the handicapper should lift him to around the 105 mark which would see him in the field.

Just looking at this and I see I have Berisha as a MC prospect down in the weights and yet I was having a dig at him winning his way cheaply into the Caulfield Cup via the Mornington Cup.

I must have seen something in him to have him on the list.  :/

Weir must be reasonably happy with a view to the cup having Tall Ship and Signoff, be great to see him go back to back.

Going on the date (Melbourne Cup day) you must have been impressed with his win at Pakeneham in a BM78 over a mile on 15 October.  Two days after your message he won at Flemington over 1800m  in impressive fashion.  He is a very promising horse.   And he is a 97 rater now.

I backed Fiorente when Green Moon beat him.  Didn't back him the year after.

Did the same with Brew.

Had the house on Preferment last year and he's gone well since without my cash.

Going on that I'll probably stick with him again should he get there.

The Sydney Cup winner looks good too.

Long way to go.  Let's see who they bring over.

Tall ship was meant to be aimed at the cup last year, hopefully doesnt go amiss as he will be my early market pick if odds permit

Only one ive gotten waa dunaden and after watching his geelong xup win i declared it... other than that its a bust every year

The way Cool Chap was able to force his way into the clear of Bullish Stock and put a massive gap on that galloper before Bullish Stock stayed on strongly indicates to me that Cool Chap is a genuine Melbourne Cup horse.

If  Charlevoix was with a better more reliable trainer I would say the same about him.

I think the sectionals suggest you read that exactly right.

Bullish Stock was solid to the line running 11.91 - 11.83 - 11.83 - 12.14 (last 800 in 47.71)
but Cool Chap had that turn of foot   11.84 - 11.68 - 11.41 - 12.40 (last 800 in 47.32)

Bullish would just keep on grinding but Cool Chap was able to find that length or three to make the decisive move.

Etymology went 11.91 - 11.87 - 11.77 - 12.67  (last 800 in 48.22)   He has clearly got very tired in the last furlong but given what he had to do early he was entitled to.  Etymology stepped out in 13.5 and followed up with an 11.84

It was a pleasing renewal of the St Leger which always seems to be teetering on the edge of extinction.  It was genuinely run and the cream came to the top.

I hope they point Bullish Stock at the Andrew Ramsden - it seems the logical progression from the St Leger but 3YO's rarely seem to take it on.

I used to believe that but his horses ( IMNSHO ) do not reach their potential.

I just backed Weir to go back to back, think he has a great shot at it. Taken Tall Ship, Signoff, Prince Of Penzance and Raw Impulse to win at combined odds of ~10/1 on various tabs + betfair. Good bet or not it will be fun to follow along. Hoping Raw Impulse runs to form and bolts in on Saturday.

Perhaps that is something a good bookie could offer, The odds of a trainer itself winning the race.
