I noticed your mention of Dornoch Terrace in a June post.
Way back in 1961, we lived for six months in the Terrace (corner of Boundary Road). I see from Goggle maps that there's been a lot of road alteration there since those days. Back then I could see the Uni across the river but I'd get on my 125cc BMW bike and head off in the other direction to the William Jolly Bridge and then down Coronation Drive and St Lucia Road. In those days City Hall, the domain of Clem Jones, was the tallest building in the town.
Later in1961, we moved from Dornoch Terrace to The Gap, the first home we bought. We lived in Brissie for another 10 years (with a year -1965- away in Townsville and a year -1967 - in Palo Alto).
I remember many Saturday afternoons at Doomben and the Farm and the Creek. I had a tenuous tie-in to Bob Glover's stable through a friend, Bill Moore, who owned a couple of horses - Lasanga was the best of his. Pappilio was a very good miler in Bob's stable; Red Shirt and Your Worship were a couple of other good ones he trained.
How the memories seep back as one starts to write.
