Don't like being critical of callers but that 6th race at Port Macquarie - it was quite clear to those watching the television that the horse on the outside had won and to someone watching and listening they would have assumed the winner was as called Majestic Pedrille. It ran 3rd.

Not talking through my kick because I backed Gripped which the jockey somehow managed to have 3 deep the entire sprint from barrier 5 and there could be an argument that it should have won the race - pretty sure the jockey is in my bad books from something in the past from memory.

Lismore and Bathurst tomorrow.

There were a few odds on shots that look the goods and have taken the early odds in parlays.

Lismore R4 #2 Viceman $1.90 - 5th at Doomben last start and before that won a BM70 at M'bah. Fradd to ride for Dunn. Only worry is up a little in weight in the BM65.

Lismore R5 #5 Angela's Beauty $1.85 - 4th at Doomben 2 starts back in a Class 1. Start before placed in a FMBM60 at Grafton. Gets into one of these 2100m Class 1 and Maiden races with a half above the limit where you can put a line through most runners. Betting the $1.85 won't last long.

Bathurst R7 #1 Winterconi $1.75 - has all other runners covered on form. Just the weight rise to 59 kg a slight worry.

Race 3 at Lismore has some curious early markets.

The unraced #6 Tristan's Angel is $1.75 on the back of 5 trials - 4 of them very ordinary. Won the latest at the Gold Coast by 2.5 lengths.

I thought the $18 about Alicia Willick's horse #3 All Gifts was very generous. Watched it's only start and it looked like the winner with 100m to go only to be collared late. Goes back 100m in distance here and with a lot of speed I'll be very surprised if it doesn't look the winner at some stage.

The other one I thought was value was R8 #6 Arrogant Boy ($81). The $2.10 favourite Iggy The Moocher was just run down over 1200m at Grafton. In the same race Arrogant Boy came from last to get beat 2.5 lengths. Race is 100m further and Arrogant Boy gets a 1 kg favour in the weights.

The two Lismore ones were very negative rides and got the results that those rides deserved.

Arrogant Boy runs 3rd at $81   emthup  - only beaten a neck.

All the races at Wyong named after local trainers today.

The only trainer that can win a  race named after him or her self is Damien Lane in the 7th race where he has two runners.

Toppie Another Lager has good consistent city form last campaign but probably needs a bit further.

Snowden has a few unraced ones including R2 #3 Oyster Bay - what a great suburb

Unfortunately at $1.35 fixed the unraced 4YO mare by Reward For Effort won't be getting any of mine.

Race 3 the Alan Denham 2YO has two unraced Godolphin entries Cloak and Laburnum, and an unraced Harron-Snowden horse Navigator. Cloak's mum Screen won a Research Plate and was sadly destroyed a few weeks back. Laburnum is closely related to Mearas who came on to the scene with a bang and won the Newcastle 3YO Classic at about his 3rd or 4th start. Went to stud but died after serving only one year.

Navigator is a Star Witness half to one of the country's best sprinters Fell Swoop.

And on the theme of unraced horses, Gai is starting one first up in Race 6 - #1 Triplicate - who is by Redoute's and whose dam was a General Nedyim half to Triple Honour (Doncaster winner) and NZ G1 winner Heroic Valour.

#2 Most Exalted has by far and away the best rated run and his recent Rosehill trial was one of the best you will see from a horse getting set for a big race first up.

Only bad luck will beat him and the chance of bad luck should not be understated. He is a run on horse and has drawn barrier 7 so there is no other visualization other than him back in the field and smothered a bit. Mudgee is a short straight and any late checks may mean it is too late to overcome them.

Given that, the $2.30 is a bit on the skinny side. Maybe if you get an odds boost??

The second favourite and stablemate #3 Schedule has drawn the rails and may sit just off the pace and with  a bit of luck he can figure in the finish. The jockey won a race in town yesterday and will have his tail up.

I don't anything else in the race can match the form of those two. The compressed weights means the handicapper cannot help and it is not as if there are any up and comers.

There must be a good chance that after 3 heats all of the heats were quinellad by a stable.

Notice in that table above I made notes about the best recent run in the right hand column.

Outside of the top two selected, the Provincial BM71 was the next highest rated race and Cosmologist won at 60-1.

I swear I looked at it. I think the fact it was an emergency put it off my radar screen a bit

Nowra Meeting Abandoned - Tuesday, 27th February

The race meeting scheduled for Nowra tomorrow, Tuesday 27th February, has been abandoned. The track has received more than 100mm of rain over the past 48 hours and more wet weather is forecast.

http://www.racingnsw.com.au/news/country-racing/nowra-meeting-abandoned-tuesday-27th-february/

Rosehill (a rare Wednesday meeting) is currently a Heavy 9 and the weather hasn't been too helpful today.

Yes mate but when there are 18 of them to get through it can get a bit time consuming and in fact I think that is the reason I have missed Cosmologist - you tend to think "oh it's an emergency and probably won't run so I'll move on".

For anyone that seriously studied the class stats the 60-1 winner was there.

Sure time is limied.... the trick is to make that ork for you rather than against you.

Great win. 1280m.

Derby is 5 weeks away. Will he be ready?

Ideally you'd want

2 weeks off
1400 or 1500m race
2 weeks off
1600m to 1900m race

That leaves him one week.

The favourite is #12 Oh So Hazy.

This horse has the best ratings in the race but I have extreme doubts about her seeing out the 1400m in the big field where there will be plenty of pressure up front.

So leaving her out.

A lot of the better chances have been delivered poor barriers.

I've ended up with #17 Delivered on top. I feel a run on horse will win this and if you look at his last start in a BM59 over the 1300m here you'll see why.

20 starts for only 3 wins and 7 placings. But two of those wins and 3 placings have come from his last 6 (incl. a city placing and a city 4th) and he looks like he is in the best form of his career.

I would have #6 Danetrille on top but just doesn't map well from the barrier. Before two Highway failures local form was excellent and closely maps to Cha Cha King who went to town and ran 3rd at Flemington behind the well performed Sohool.

#13 Supply Money has the Class figures but just might be a little short of his ideal distance. But in these big fields who knows.

#10 Superoo also considered a chance with luck from the poor draw. #8 Fermanagh Lad and #15 Bennelong Dancer not hopeless either with a little luck.

Showcase meeting backing up the Country Championship today and some good fields in the associated races.

Liked these:

R1 #11 Sei Stella - bolted in in a barrier trial and the second horse has since won then ran 4th in the feature 2YO race at Canberra. From the Dale stable.
R2 #1 Plucky George - seemed to cop a check mid race but still stuck solidly for 6th. Thought this race lacked a bit in depth and the $23 appeals ex
R3 #10 Star Of Serena was 3rd in Plucky George's race and the run couldn't be missed. Absolutely flew home and gets an extra 200m here.
R4 #14 Nothin Like Harry debuted with a SHH 2nd and they streeted the rest. Drawn to win this. #1 and #8 into exotics.
R5 #10 Benno's Boy won't know himself with 50 kg. Down 4 kg on a close defeat a few starts back over the course and distance in this class. $23
R6 #8 Uncle Sugar the place goes into parlays in a tough race.
R7 #17 Delivered -see above.
R8 #3 Takookacod - 4 of last 5 runs have been respectable city runs and the other start came from near last to win at the course in the same class. Up 2kg on that run.

Bad luck to the bloke who had $130k on the unraced Red Rover at Gosford.

It was all over Red Rover at the 200m mark :)

#4 Suncraze looks the goods in the Scone Country Championships qualifiers. City grade BM85 horse against country Class 4 and 5 types in well at the weights.

Mel O'Gorman has planned this perfectly.

Healthy respect for the Messara topweight #1 Caerless Choice - first up but will be ready to go. Unbeaten at his home track.

As roughies I thought #12 Prada Miss and #13 Love None will appreciate the drop in weight.
