Today is Day 1 of the Coffs Harbour carnival and includes the Sawtell Cup and the Daniel Baker Prelude as well as a prelude for the Blinkan Missit scamper over 810m.

My thoughts on the early races:

R1: #7 Mayfair Lady had a NSW "Baptism Of Fire" in a Class 1 at the carnival being 4 deep the entire journey. Previous run it was a creditable 4th in a Warnambool R58 at their carnival. Thought it was overs at $26. Saving on #4 Laura's Star at the $10

R2: #2 Wee Rascal at the $21 - has blown like a gale though. #7 Just Sizzling and #11 Arlington Valley were close in a maiden over the Grafton Carnival

R3: #3 I'm A Jet, #5 Johnny Roo Boy and #6 Always Sacred seem to have the best city/provincial form. #8 Cilli Zaim is hard to catch - almost did last start. He is a run on hose so he will need a strong pace in the scamper over 810m.

R4: Very tough race. Many of these have had plenty of chances. #9 Arizona Belle was in the wrong part of the track on debut and held on quite well given the circumstance. #1 Caro Cavallo is so consistent it must be included under the set weights conditions and barrier 1. #8 Spender was a nice NSW debut over the carnival. #10 Ethanol Girl lightly raced and #11, #12 and #14 given outside chances.

Nice meeting at Albury tomorrow and I reckon a few rough ones might salute.

As always a big Victorian contingent and even David Hayes has one in Race 3 #4 Joburg Flyer. Half the field ran around in a 1400m race last start behind French Politician. If you watch the replay the horse finishing on at the end is the 4th horse #5 Rosie's Ready and the extra 200m seems perfect for the lightly raced 4yo mare. The odds on favourite is up from Melbourne #8 My Divas and has been running in much stronger company but the $1.75 is way too short for me. #2 Moving Target finished in between the other two in that Albury race last start and looks a threat.

Nikita Beriman has a few mounts and in the last she is on #4 Ilovethislady looks to be set for a first up win. Trained locally by Donna Scott she won first up easily last campaign in a maiden and ran some nice races subsequently. Class 3 looks ideal and well drawn.

At Newcastle I have Race 4 #1 Rogue Runner rated on top. Brett Partelle is famously known as the trainer of Sincero and his horses all seem to go well fresh as did Sincero and this bloke has had two trials leading into this assignment. The 61.5 kg is a put off at first glance but you can put a line through the three on the limit so he effectively has 5.5 kg above the limit in my calcs which isn't too bad but it is always a concern when they haven't carried that much weight before.

Watch out that Race 7 #9 Port Gold doesn't improve on the good track. Amazingly has struck wet tracks in 7 of his last 8 starts and form before that on Good surfaces was OK.  4th run back and RT riding. $14 seems good value each way.

Shortest price of the day is R3 #5 Kettering at $1.65 at which price I'd be willing to take it on.

Sorry mate. You are right. Got my trainers mixed up.

Did Brett Partelle have a good city horse at one stage?

TORIO'S QUEST

Yes that's the one mate. Won the Wyong-Gold Coast MM 3YO double as well as the Qld Guineas (Group 2) and was 2nd in the Thoe Marks. Didn't race much after that so assuming it had some problems.

Was way off at Albury today - when I did the form last night it was listed as a Soft 7 with Fine weather but turned out to be a bit of a bog.

Port Gold got up though to save my skin  :)

Actually the Brett Partelle horse has cost me a big collect. Had it in an all up with Port Gold last night.

Split my Port Gold stake half on Fixed (boosted) and half on Tote - no deductions in spite of all the scratchings but a huge difference in outcome.

If you take the time to do the form you can get some great overs sometimes taking the early fixed odds the night before.

Rats, will your girl be winning tomorrow?
I wish I knew mate  lol

my thoughts , some of us do form !

she is a good country / provincial mare who is good when weighted to suit her
she is small 15.2 or there abouts so therefore doesn't carry weight against similar rated horses
as she has got older she has of cause become stronger

she is in a winnable race tomorrow but no bet for me ( I will back her but only in trifectas etc )
hope this helps   lol

should piss in now
she needs a run to go where we are hoping to go with her

Good luck mate, itís certainly there for her. The only other in the race that I would bother about is Kateís Pearl but he win record is pretty poor and perhaps the lightly raced Dame Kiri

Well done Rats. I was going to have a stab and guess she might be set for something like the Camden Haven Cup or the Queen Of The North?

I was actually thinking of going to the Camden Haven Cup meeting then they announce this today  :what:

Please note the Port Macquarie race meeting scheduled for Saturday, 25th August 2018, has been TRANSFERRED to Kempsey.

No reason given.  :(

PM Cup prelude is on Sept 23rd and the two day Cup meeting 5th and 6th October.

Race 5 - 2:56PM NARROMINE CUP (1600 METRES) Times displayed in local time of Race Meeting

Of $35,000.1st $19,555, 2nd $6,840, 3rd $3,470, 4th $1,630, 5th $805, 6th $400, 7th $400, 8th $400, 9th $400, 10th $400, Equine Welfare Fund $350, Jockey Welfare Fund $350.

2 8571106x73 RED KNOT Rodney Northam Ms Wendy Peel(a3/50kg) 3 58.5kg

7 414x704738 ALSOKNOWNAS Tara & Philippe Vigouroux Ms Mikayla Weir(a0/51kg) 5 54kg

Recent addition to the NSW country racing jockeys ranks Skye Bogenhuber will ride #4 Still Undaunted for boss Brett Cavanough. This horse is ultra consistent and last start in the Daniel Baker Sprint at Coffs was held up most of the way down the straight. Only thing is he goes from 1200m up to 1600m but is one win from one start at the distance and won this year's Wallabadah Cup over 1500m. #2 Red Knot is 3rd run back up to the mile and had ran regular good races in city midweek company last campaign and with the claim drops significantly in weight on what has been recently carried.

In a strong Cup meeting there is some extraordinarily good city form in some of the races.

R1 #2 Sneak Preview was near the lead in his only start at Newcastle before fading a little to run 6th. First up and 100m less this time and was 5th to yesterday's Rosebud winner Sandbar in a city trial recently.

In Race 4 #1 Olifants (ex Godolphin) and #2 Pip's Pick (ex Darren Weir) debut for their new stables and for mine do not appear to be handicapped high enough for the others to be considered a threat. Take your pick.

Race 7 #1 Absolute Ripper is a giant of a mare resuming with 63 kg but she should handle that over the 800m scamper. In her recent trial she treated her rivals with contempt and her City/Hawkesbury form last campaign was enough for this. #9 Yeas And Nays has good Provincial form last campaign and faded first up after leading. Back 300m in distance and will carry less weight  than she has for a  long time. #14 Squared another who will not know herself with 51 kg and drawn to run a race at big odds.

Didn't get the Cup winner but will play up a bit on our winnings in the other races.

I thought Quirindi R6 #2 Aberration might be ready for a first up win if his trial in running Group 1 winner Prized Icon to a head is anything to go by.

The stablemate of Everest aspirant In Her Time and Group 1 winner El Dorado Dreaming is $3.40 in early markets and I thought the race could be stripped down to 2 to beat 3,4 and 10.

In fact I thought Kris Lees, Ben Smith and Paul Perry could win most if not all the races at Quirindi tomorrow.

The other Monday meeting is at Goulburn and I thought R6 #9 Zedforce was worth an each way bet from the good draw. The lightly raced 4YO mare will appreciate the 1200m and a bit further being by Commands out of a Zabeel mare and closely related to NZ G1 winner Honour Bound.
