Favourite Alassio holds off the late challenge of Herreshoff - jumped in and took $2.50 fixed early in a few all ups - should have waited :(

33.20 for the last 600m. Both horses up to city grade.

Wasn't surprised to see there was an article about a first starter 2yo Jenny Graham produced at Taree on Thursday. Racing against all older horses it recorded a breath taking debut.

Jenny is undecided on whether to take Awesome Pluck to town or up to Grafton for the feature 2yo race. With $100,000 Saturday races it shouldn't be hard to find a nice race for him.

Obviously racing well out of it's class on Thursday.

Awesome Win By Unraced Giant At Taree

Port Macquarie trainer Jenny Graham unveiled a potential star in the win of two-year-old gelding Awesome Pluck at Taree-Wingham Race Club’s Showcase TAB meeting on Thursday.

The Pluck (USA) youngster spreadeagled a field of older gallopers to score virtually untouched by 5.5 lengths in the $40,000 New Members Welcome Plate over 1000m at its first start. And it did it coming within one second of the class record on a heavy 9 rated track at Bushland Drive Racecourse.

“A really nice horse, it was effortless ... he still had a few gears left,” jockey Ben Looker said in praise of the effort.

The giant two-year-old (16.2 hands) was bought for $68,000 by Wauchope businessman Dale Miller at the Inglis Classic Sydney Sales in February.

Replay - can't miss him. He is the big baby in the field out wide the whole way in the red and black colours. Jockey absolutely never laid a hand on him in the straight.

Just leaving Taree to go to Port.

Good luck to Jenny and the team in the first in Sydney. Hope she has the next Port champ on her hands :)

But as we know a big jump in class from country maiden to city Saturday but fingers crossed.

My notes for Grafton today - just heading out. Good luck if you are having a punt. emthup

Grafton 12th July

Race 1

Couldn't miss the run of #7 Blackberry on debut at Gold Coast. 5 and 6 deep the whole way and finished best to get 4th. Bjorn Baker cast off who is put on top.

#1, #2 and #12 in no particular order considered the best chances outside with #6 back a rung.

#12 goes around in the Samantha Miss colours and is related to Miesque.

Miesque (USA) 1984 1987 FR Prix Jacques le Marois 1
1988 FR Prix Jacques le Marois 1
1987 FR Prix du Moulin de Longchamp 1
1986 FR Prix Marcel Boussac 1
1986 FR Prix de la Salamandre 1
1987 USA Breeders' Cup Mile 1
1988 USA Breeders' Cup Mile 1
1987 FR Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (1,000 Guineas) 1
1987 GB One Thousand Guineas 1
1988 FR Prix d'Ispahan 1

Race 2

#2 Avroson looks a certain placegetter with #3 Kilmarnock and #5 Push The Sky Away chances from good draws. A lot of horses you can put the pen through in this race and

would be surprised if the winner came from outside those 3.

Race 3

#6 Friskee One has reasonable city form - last start was outstanding on the heavy track in the last 100m of the race. Will need some pace though and few pacemakers in

this.

#10 Myboycellito with the featherweight given a hope if things go it's way.

#1, #2 and #4 not hopeless.

Race 4

#2 Sneaky Glance has risen through the classes with modest Maiden, Grafton 3yo then city Class 2 wins in succession. Edmonds Lloyd combination to be respected.

#1 Constantine from the in form Munce stable was beaten 4.9 in the Sunshine Coast Guineas last start and won 4 on the trot before that.

Gai has taken #3 Sebrarian up - probably as a travelling companion for Supply And Demand - 3rd of 7 in a BM64 at Kembla doesn't cut it for me but a chance or exotics.

Corey Brown to ride Liam Birchley's horse #4 Fit For Purpose which hasn't done much wrong in his 5 start career.

Very good quality Guineas this year.

Race 5

F&M BM55 over 1100m. 15 runners. My Godfather. Get the pin out.

#1 All In All at $26 appeals. Near 50% strike rate. Nice draw. 3 kg claim. Very consistent. Will race in or near the lead and rated highly on a BM60 4th placing at the

course in April. One of the few horses used to carrying these sorts of weights - all bar 1 are carrying 56kg or more.

#3 Fraternater is an obvious chance but no way I'm touching it at $3.60.

#6 Mother's Presence will be ridden hard from out wide and if it gets a lucky run is some sort of hance.

#10 Whispering Wings is the Sky top rater and looks a good chance.

#2 Don't Play Around has the Tatts top rating and form is sound but has to carry 60 kg and the most weight it has carried in the last 7 starts is 56.5 kg (4th of 7 in

an Ipswich 3yo). That sort of stuff worries me.

Race 6

BM 55 for the boys over 1100m with an interesting spread of 12.5 kg in the weights.

#6 Akamin had a bad campaign last time in but resumed with a strong 2nd at Cessnock in this grade that suggested he is back to his best.

#3 Text Me has been ordinary on wet tracks two runs in this time but his best form last campaign is enough to beat these.

#5 Melted Moments drawn poorly but a chance on best form and the claim on #2 Aimalac Bobby puts him in contention if he can overcome barrier 13. Topweight #1 Yours Mine

Ours has to be included in spite of the 63.5 kg.

Can't help but mention #4 Little Cayuse. Resumes from an 1146 day spell. Last raced May 2014 over the course and distance. Last win was back in 2102. Cannot recall

seeing that sort of form before.

Race 7 - Ramornie Hcp.

#3 Flippant went across the line together with Stradbroke winner Deploy last start and has drawn barrier 2. Will get a very nice sit. 3rd to In Her Time and Dixie

Blossoms in G2 races in February. Drawn barrier 2. Won down the straight in a Listed race at Flemington late last year beating Faatinah. Selected.

#2 Boss Lane has form around Takedown and Spieth and his best rating would go close here.

#1 The Monstar will carry 5.5 kg above the limit but his form warrants consideration.

#7 Badajoz seems to have spent most of his career avoiding 1200m races and only 3 placings from 6 attempts. Some sort of chance if he can overcome that hurdle.

Of the locals, I am informed that the Northern Rivers king, #15 Free Standing, is in fine fettle and is expected to run a race close to or at his top rating which gives

him a place chance at a track where he has only been unplaced once in 8 starts.

#6 Steel Zip always a place chance in this sort of race. Tough race

Race 8

#1 Glitara won by a space with 62.5 kg last start and drops to 60 kg here but the jockey from wide barriers does not have a good record.

#2 Cooloota has won in this class at the provinials with similar weight.

#9 Pradnya seems to have snuck in under the radar and will carry a luxury weight for a BM70 winner.

#4, #16, #17 and a few others can win. Hard race to finish up.

Cheers mate.

Parlayed the first 4 and have just missed a big collect but got a nice return. Thought I was doing pretty well.

One of the guys I was out there with has backed Miss Magda ($76) and Global Gentl ($51) in Melbourne and had the quinella in the latter race. :o

My notes for the day:

Grafton 13th July

Race 1

The 3yo #4 Prada Miss was switched back to 1350m last start and failed in Listed class. Previously ran 2nd to Candika in a LR. Not much black type form in this race. BM 65 seems to be the standard.

#2 Lolly Shoppe won a BM65 in the heavy at Coffs with 59.5 and drops to 56.5.

#6 Pomme Petite ran a close 3rd in a Taree BM65 and drops 4 kg - once again on a havy track. 2nd to Dantga in an open Hcp here recently with the same weight.

#7 Shoreline drops 2 kg on running a close 3rd in an Armidale BM70. Runs a place 62% of th time but distance stats are poor.

Race 2

#10 Snapchat Girl had a big maiden win at the Gold Coast at only start 4 and that form might just hold up here.

#5 Clever Blaze won a maiden then two flops in black type company. Wouldn't have to be too good to win this.

Hard to find anything that has consistent good form outside of maiden class. http://#6 El Teniente might be worth a couple of dollars saver (cannot pronounce it so will avoid backing it with the bookies).

Race 3

You could find an excuse to back most of these.

#2 Dubai Sights did not get a lot of room in the straight last start in a Newcastle BM70 - drops in class and only up 1.5 kg. Like the stable asa well.

#10 Elite Dubleo will carry less weight than he has in a long time with the claim and form is up to this. Drawn to be near or in the lead.

#12 King Red from the Bevan Laming yard is lightly raced and has done litte wrong in his career thus far. Chance from the tricky draw.

Wouldn't surprise to see a bolterr take this out.

Race 4

Excellent quality maiden but disparate form from 3 states to compare so a bit of a lottery.

We'll go with the best quality and the run of #15 Sepoy's Choice although only 6th of 7 in the Gosford maiden was against fairly strong horses. Only beaten 3.1 and drops in weight. Winner Cliveden has gone on with it - notice it in the form around Johnny Ge in the 6th race.

#2 Metallic Moon was placed in a Kembla maiden last start and has RT on top.

But no surprise to see any of these win.

Race 5

The obvious class choice is #5 Runaway on the back of it's debut 4th at Cantebury but watching the replay it was a bit flat footed. Given that thee are a few in this with wins by big spaces I'll be searching for some value.

#2 Imperial Eagle is one of those thick set I Am Invincibles and has hardly beeen tested in his last two big wins.

#6 Victorum only beat 5 rivals at Kempsey but therer was no way of telling how good he is because he was never tested. Stable has some good 2yos with the city placed Awesome Pluck in the yard as well.

#10 Pricing Power only beat 3 rivals in a big win at Ballina but previous form dosn't suggests it will not trouble these.

Eagle goes on top.

Race 6

#5 Johnny Ge hasn't done much wrong in his 5 starts to date and the win over Cliveden at Gosford was imnpessive. Son of Big Brown who is a bit on the light side.

I don' think Liam Birchley is here to look at the Jacaranda trees. #10 Havasay has established Class 6 form in Brisbane and as trialled in preparation for his first up run.

#12 Portatorio is a big strong horse who is rarely not in the finish. Down in weight for this.

Race 7

2017 Grafton Cup

I have let the ratings to my colleague here and he has come up with them the same as the market.

Without ratng them I was alwas going to be on #2 Supply And Demand if he was black odds. $3.10 fixed this morning. The obvious negatives are the barrier (will probably lead and not much pace in the race) and the rise in weight - 3 kg from the Caloundra Cup win which is not insignificant. My "risk management alter ego" is telling me to take the $3.10.

#3 Montauk is a worthy rival. His last 15 starts, many of them in Listed company, reads

x54174473121232 45432

The 54 kg is a luxury for im.

There seems to be a bit of a gap in class back to 3rd. The topweight #1 Benzini has finished 2nd in a Group 1 in NZ and has not disgraced himself in 4 Australian starts but appears to be paying a handicap penalty for his decent form over the ditch.

Race 8

Everyone has a horror race. This is mine. Never backed the winner of this race and had some hard luck stories on potential huge collects that bring a tear to the eye remembering them.

My initial thoughts are #4 Lady Jetsetter first up for Liam Birchley.

The race is fuill of on pacers so one of the run on horses like #3 Ice Bucket or #5 Capitano might provide some value.

Taree Friday:

2 bets.

Race 7 #7 Oakfield Monarch. From the astute Kristen Buchanan stable. Down heaps in class on good run (Hawkesbury BM70 vs Taree BM64) and up 3.5 kg to 57.5 kg. Before that was 2 length 4th in the Grafton Cup prelude behind the smart First Crush. This looks ideal and drawn well to get a sit just off the pace.

Race 8 #5 Laurentian. Claim brings it back to 54 kg. Barrier 1. Track and Distance record is 5/2-2. Plenty of pace so hoping it just sits off them and gets a run through.

In Dubbo Greg Ryan riding the favourite in the 5th race #1 Baker's Image and should anchor quaddies. Rough quinella hope with #9.

When I was travelling around the state last week took a picture of the intriguing Wallabadah racecourse where their only meet is on NY Day.

I am on the ground looking up the hill - it is a lot steeper than the picture suggests

Coffs Sawtell Cup meeting today with the Daniel Baker Sprint prelude.

Thought in the early part of the program Race 1 #3 Our Man Lincoln was responsible for an amazing run in a strong Grafton maiden last start and the extra 300m seems ideal. Will be having only his 4th start whereas most of these have already had plenty of chances. Thought I'd be smart and take the $12 last night. There are 4 scratchings and it is out to $17 now. Will have to go back for more :shy:

Race 2 Toby Edmonds unraced horse #9 I Am Impinge is being backed like it is the new Todman and obviously the stable are bringing it down for a "soft kill" - doesn't always work out that way though.

#3 Mustaknown resumed from a spell at only his third start to run the closest of seconds to Vivid Image in a strong maiden on Grafton Prelude day and they streeted the rest - always a good sign.

#8 Nutcracker made up a lot of ground at it's debut and while it must make up a lot more thought the $91 I got with a Ladbrokes odds boost made it worthwhile to have a small wager.

If Mustaknown wins this it might auger well for #10 Vivid Image in Race 3 who beat it home last start.

In the Daniel Baker Prelude will have a couple of dollars each way on last weeks 200-1 winner Chilli Zaim. That was a big field he beat at the Cup carnival (always a bit stronger class) and he gets a nice present for his Open class debut - 51 kgs down 4 kg. Looking through the form not muc to get excited about so why not. #4 Mosgeil Ruby has 4-2-2-0 first up and #9 Ekibuuka will be flying home late like last start in the John Carlton.

Race 5 you start reading the form and have to check if you didn't accidentally click on a Victorian race. 3 of them have most recent form from there. Really don't like the race and turns me off having a quaddie actually.

I backed race 6 Sawtell Cup #14 Pradnaya last start on the assumption/hope that improved fitness would allow it to achieve the highest rating last season. It ran last. Will have a couple of dollars each way -$75 on the tote atm.

Boxin up the placegetters behind Chilli Zaim lst start, #5 Art's Got a Gun and #7 Elite Dubleo with the two lightweights here (#10 and #12).

The Cheers stable starting #9 Dolphin Tale in the last at Port tomorrow.

In one of the most fascinating wins last start on his home track at Taree, different riding tactics were employed and it led and ran them off their legs winning by 6.5 lengths.

http://racing.racingnsw.com.au/FreeFields/VideoResult.aspx?MeetDate=2017Jul21&VenueCode=MjM5Mjc0MA==&RaceNumber=3&MeetingCategory=Professional&VideoFileType=FullReplay

Wonder if they will do the same tomorrow?

I thought it looked a favourites day tomorrow at Port in the first 5 races with the last two races being tough to assess.
