Payne to unveil new acquisition in Millie Fox

Brad Waters
Monday, 23 February 2009

Top Rosehill trainer David Payne received a welcome phone call last week which has seen his stable welcome the Kiwi group one winner Imananabaa who will make her Australian debut in the GIII Millie Fox Quality Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Imananabaa won the 2008 Railway Handicap in New Zealand under the care of Don Sellwood after originally being trained by Jim Gibbs.

Sir Patrick Hogan rang me and asked if I would be interested in training her for him, Payne said.

He said that she has been sold to American interests and his syndicate is leasing her back and she will finish out her career in Australia before heading over to the United States as a broodmare.

Ive been impressed with what I have seen so far, the idea is that she runs on Saturday then she will race in both the Queen of the Turf and Coolmore Classic.

Payne said that leading Adelaide rider Claire Lindop would take the ride on Saturday.

Claire will ride for me with the jockeys spread far and wide all over Australia, its hard to get a good jockey when there is good racing in both Sydney and Melbourne but Claire was available which we are very happy with.

Lindop will be in Sydney to ride VRC Derby winner Rebel Raider in the Hobartville Stakes on Saturday and was brushing up on the form behind Imananabaa.

I have ridden trackwork for the David Payne stable when I was up there last year with Augusta Proud for the Golden Slipper, Lindop said.

Its great to pick up those extra rides outside the Macdonald stable when I am over there because its not easy to compete for rides with such high-calibre jockeys.

I dont know all that much about Imananabaa so I will have to do my form and it looks like it will be a very good race (the Millie Fox Quality) on Saturday.

Lindop manages herself and can ride as low as 51kg if required and can be contacted herself by any trainer wishing to book her for rides on Saturday.

Diana Cazadora has added an international element to Gerald Ryan's stable with the trainer confident she can bring her Chilean Group One form to Sydney this autumn.

The mare is entered for the Group Three Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on Saturday as well as the 1400 metre welter.

Ryan will decide which race she runs in after weights are issued but whichever it is, he is more than happy to have her in his care.

"She is a sweet little thing and has pleased me with her work," Ryan said.

"Her form in Chile is on both turf and dirt and she goes like a stayer.

"She won a Group One in Chile over 2000 metres so eventually that's where she will go here.

"She has been with me since October and was bought with her future as a brood mare in mind and I'm sure she can improve on her record."

Diana Cazadora has raced 11 times for five wins and four placings and although she is listed as a five-year-old, Ryan says she is technically still four.

"She was born in July but because her mare was served before September 1, the (Australian) Stud Book has to classify her as a year older," he said.

There were 21 entries for the Millie Fox including Imananabaa, a new addition to the David Payne stable from New Zealand, and Glowlamp who will be out to shed her tag as the country's best maiden.

Ryan also entered Beaucoup but said she would have to run in a lesser race in the program as she was the lowest rated horse in the Millie Fox.

He is also hopeful of a good showing from Melito who comes up against Golden Slipper favourite More Joyous in the Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) for which there were 15 nominations.

Melito ran second to Horizons, a Gai Waterhouse-trained stablemate of More Joyous, in the Widden Stakes on debut.

"She came out of her last race well and Dan Nikolic is going to stick with her," Ryan said.

"The race will tell us whether she is a Golden Slipper horse and if she isn't, then we won't push her."

More Joyous is the clear $5 favourite for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper on April 4 with Blue Diamond Stakes runner-up Real Saga at $6.50 the only other runner under double figures.

Melito is at $17 with TAB Sportsbet alongside Marquardt who finished third in the Widden.

Some of you may remember a thread was started, on the old site,  after Pravan had her first win.

It was stunning ad oozed class.
She's been backed on fixed odds already

Go Girl!!!!

I think she highly over-rated wily, winning in restricted grade and her best runs are early and all down hill from there
