What a terrible race for Winx to come back in.

All reports Winx will have another Super prep.

Scary to think she will only improve with that run.

Tend to think it was the perfect race for her. Should not have taken too much out of her.

She didn't really get out of second gear so it was probably a perfect 'soft' kick off.

Terrible race from Punters point of view, unless you took the 1.35.
I'm sure  the owners woulda loved it but Racing followers it looked more like a trial.

Punters don't see greatness.  Only odds.  Poor bastards.

Her record is never going to be as good - obviously - but I think you're right.

There is more than just a win/loss record to judge greatness by.

I think it is hard to quantify.

Probably worthy of debate though.

She is only limited by her human friends around her...she seems to be completely dominant...could win G1s from 1200m to 3200 if asked.
Much wider range of talent than Caviar...but better?
That was very quick last Sat...but Nelly has pulled off sub 31.5 didnt she?
What did those 3 quickest sectionals add up to in the Lightning?
She is Frankel like...ordinary in every way but so, so fluid.
What times.. :no1: :clap2:

If a top class horse is allowed to sit outside the leader and run the first half mile in 50.9 aren't they practically entitled to get home the last 600 in 32.9.  ?

As a point of comparison when Sunline won the Warwick as a 4YO in 1999 she ran 1.22.14 compared to Winx's 1.23.8.  Admittedly Sunline's was a marginally better track but 1.66 seconds equates to about 10 lengths.  Sunline ran out the first half mile in 46.74 or 4.16 seconds quicker than Rebel Dane and Winx ran - about 25 lengths quicker !  Now Sunline was entitled to get tired, and  an ordinary horse would have compounded in the last 600m but Sunline ran 35.4, sufficient to hold out Tie The knot and Referral to win by a half length.

If Winx had to chase a pace of 46.74 through the first half mile she would not have been running 32.9 at the end of it.

Note : Winx's track was a Good 4, Sunline's was a Good 3.

Times can be deceptive for a variety of reasons.

As much as I loved Sunline, I think over a mile and and quarter, Winx would have given her windburn.

They certainly can.

My point was more that  a quick sectional off a slow pace is deceptive.  It one of the biggest traps in time analysis.  The form only holds for another race run to the same pattern.  If Sunline and Winx were to meet in a race in which they ran the first half mile in 50.9 Winx would be more likely to win .  In a race where they run the first half in 46.7 Sunline would be more likely.

Whether Winx would be able to stalk her in the fashion of Northerly makes for a delicious hypothetical. That would be more likely to succeed in a race that was longer rather than shorter.
