Te Akau team set for Brisbane assault

New Zealand’s Te Akau Racing team will look to build on their Australian success with Gingernuts as they prepare a strong contingent for the Brisbane winter carnival.

Co-trainer Stephen Autridge, who works alongside Jamie Richards, says the Te Akau team’s plans for Brisbane were coming along nicely.

“At this stage, everything is on schedule for the team we are taking over there so we are looking forward to the challenge,” Autridge said.

“Most of the team will fly over in early May although Heroic Valour will go earlier to Sydney and travel up to Brisbane by road as his first race is only a day or two after that Brisbane flight.

“Currently we have Melody Belle, Hall Of Fame and Splurge set to go on that May flight and they might be joined by Zambezi Warrior. It’s a team full of talent so hopefully they can perform up to expectations.”

Smerdon to defend Stradbroke crown?

Hooked might find himself back in Brisbane this winter looking to tick off the only box left unchecked in the entire's career - a Group 1 win.

The Group 3 Victoria Handicap winner claimed his first race success since September 2015 on Saturday, the six-year-old dropping in class from the G1 William Reid Stakes last start, when he finished 10th of 12.

All Aged Stakes winner Tivaci a possible Brisbane visitor - either that or he will be retired  :what:

I have heard that Gai will take English up to Brisbane as well.

Of the "visitors" today I thought these looked the best:

R3 #3 Siren's Fury - set weights will suit. Placed in a Group race at the Easter Carnival last start. Tricky barrier.
R6 #2 Guard Of Honour - beaten 5 lengths in the Oakleigh Plate. Before that 2nd to subsequent Hobartville winner. Once again, the set weights conditions are key.
R7 #2 Single Gaze - 4th run back today after placing in the Sellwood last start. Form before a long break included a G1 3yo fillies win. Will be tough to beat if produces peak rating.

Of the others:

R5 #10 Sweet Serendipity is up a bit in class but down in weight - tough one to assess.

Good luck!

Our four tracked interstate horses last Saturday yielded two winners and a good third.  :clap2:

Pinching the Trainer Index from Racenet, today we have:

Bjorn Baker
Race 6   Music Magnate   Jeff Lloyd

Clarry Conners
Race 4   Pricing Power   Jeff Lloyd

 James Cummings
    Race 6   Good Standing   SCRATCHED

Gary Moore
    Race 6   Takedown   Tim Clark
    Race 7   Kunming   Tim Clark

Gerald Ryan
    Race 4   Condor Heroes   SCRATCHED

Brent Stanley
    Race 7   Violate   Larry Cassidy

Trevinder in Race 1 has been transferred from Ellerton/Zahra to Heathcote
Pindan Pearl (R2) was with Tim Martin, now with Tony Gollan.

We'll count Matt Dunn as a "local"

Race 4   Pricing Power - place chance and maybe more if it can improve. But still a maiden. Top two look the goods here.
Race 6   Takedown - disappointing on the wet track when resuming. G1 winner cannot be ignored.
Race 6   Music Magnate - 10,000 winner who was disappointing in the wet.
Race 7   Violate - steady form in good quality races. Definite chance
Race 7     Kunming - travelling companion for Takedown. No.

Violate the best "southern raider" for mine. The listing of a Slow 7 and you guys complaining about the track turns me off the two best horses in the Victory.

Race 4, I've got 1 and 2 dead heating from 4
Race 6 the value might be in #3 and #4 - but not a big bet race. Tumbler???? Only carried 54 last two wins and comes up against a few G1 horses.
Race 7, if Violate is to win he will need to knock over the #1 and the #3 at the set weights.

I'm for the horse with the #1saddlecloth in each of these three races.

Hard to disagree with that Brian.

Race 4 Ours To Keep and Snitzcraft met in a G3 in December over 1110m at Doomben at level weights, like today. Just watched a replay and Ours To Keep really had him well and truly covered I thought even though the margin was only 0.4 lengths.

Race 6 Takedown is a class sprinter as is Music Magnate but the track is denting the confidence.

Race 7 Dreams A Plenty beat Spring Tycoon by 0.2 lengths under the set weights last start, like today. Can see the result going either way.

Don't mind Clearly Innocent as one to follow for the Bris Carnival. Wouldn't mind having a few shackles ew on him as a Stradbroke dark horse but not in any markets i've seen. Would suit as he wants sting out, big track, pace on. Keen to see how he returns today for Kris Lees now.

Update: Ran 9th but actually wouldn't be sacking it, was hitting the line and they sprinted home in 32.83. Pass mark for a return run looking for longer & wetter.

What is Black Heart Bart's correct price for Saturday in the Kingsford-Smith?

Pros:

Back to WFA
Should get clearer running than last week when cluttered up on the inside with 59kg, never really able to fully wind up and let down
Outstanding overall record
Form at Eagle Farm
Darren Weir

Cons:

Backs up in a week
Travelled from Adelaide to Brisbane via Melbourne in that time
Entitled to do more in The Goodwood?
A query on very wet?
Not super impressive in his latest wins, declining?

A repeat of his Stradbroke 2nd would have these covered you'd think, but is he 100% suited/wound up against some decent up and comers? Weir said he was ridden too close last time, inclined to just dismiss that as a forgive run. Interesting race.

Weather bureau says no rain in the 48 hours and none in 7 days let the track comes up heavy........what a disaster!

If it don't and will not drain with 7 days of fine weather and just morning dew then surely aren't the builders and sellers of this shonk liable?

There seems only one logical outcome and not some fairy dust from the track manager on radio today about intensive work after the carnival?

Pull the goat track up and get the STRATH  builders in........

Very difficult to understand the big betting drift on Clearly Innocent yesterday.
3 starts on wet ground for three wins yet $5.50 out to $10.00.
Borrowing  a Paul Keating line " but one for the true believers"

Has always looked like a WFA horse but just needs to be away from firm ground.
His failures have always been on hard tracks.

Borrowing  a Paul Keating line " but one for the true believers"

Has always looked like a WFA horse but just needs to be away from firm ground.
His failures have always been on hard tracks.

I noticed after his outstanding win at Scone a few media outlets reported it as a win by a Scone specialist but I thought it was more than that - it was an indicator that the horse was back to his best and maybe even some more after the switch from Greg Bennett.

Like you I could not believe the price. But this was in the background of punter's confidence being shot as they watched the horses go around on a track that was flagged as being Heavy before racing started for the day. But I don't think even the most astute punters would have seen it being that heavy.
