Queensland Derby?....anyone?....before the race!
I have not had a bet at Eagle Farm since last year's Stradbroke.....looked liked painted concrete and would have felt that way....poor horses
It's interesting that some trainers are prepared to run their good horses on it this year.

I've always had a bit of time for Horrifying.....J Kah has stuck solid all the way through since the Sandown Guineas.
The Shocking breed are a bit like their dad and do go on firm ground.
I'll have a little on Mick Price's Shocking as well.
Fortified looks like he can stay a bit.....the son of Ocean Park will probably need the "cushion"
Be nice to see some of these "promising" 3 yr olds from that stable kick on a bit......feels like it's been a while!
I'm going away from Explosive Jack.....solely on the firm ground.

Let us all hope that racetrack does indeed have "cushion" now.
Maybe someone from the State of bent bananas has gone over to Disneyland and employed that wacky professor that invented flubber.

Hard to not see So You Win placing from that barrier. Gets a lovely run.

Laure Me In will have to go back from the barrier and will be running on.

The old girl Maid Of Ore should be on the pace and the old boy Happy Go Plucky won't know himself with the limit weight but has a tricky draw.

Couple of first starters coming up in R2at the Sunny Coast Inasec won with its head on its chest running fast time overall for 1000m the other one nord Lyon won over the half mile course it's last 600 sectionals were better than Inasec but not as impressive to my eye Win Burn is very green but has ability only a small field and no value with Inasec but hard to be confident that any of the others will beat it

Tough Millions card as always but you've gotta have a crack

In the 2yo, I really liked the run of the big fella from NZ #16 Bright Blue Sky behind the fave last start. Was left standing when they sprinted then flew home when he got warmed up. Should be suited by a drier track and a fast pace. Overs at $34 IMO

In the 3yo it is hard to come up with a scenario where (luck being equal) #2 Jamaea doesn't place so with black odds the place happy to have a decent each way bet.

In the Cup #4 Eleven Eleven won both the 2yo and 3yo Millions at his only appearances at the track and he wouldn't be up there if he wasn't ready to fire. Each way at that price. Kementari and Apache Chase go into exotics.

After dropping Aiolos from my BB before  it bolted in at Doomben the secondary meeting to the Gold Coast last Saturday I'm not making the same mistake with General Wolffe tonight in R6 at the Sunny Coast a sentimental favourite had a small ew bet at long odds .

As we know past performances are no guarantee of future success and the CM tipsters don't have a very good record of picking winners.  I checked the three tipster's selections for Dommben today as published in the Courier Mail ...so if their tips run true to form it'll be a favourites day,,, usually it turns out to be anything but ,,,,,so here are the tips for today..when two of the three tipsters pick the same horse on top they are listed hereunder:-

R1 Abbracadazzle
R2Indian Dreamer
R3 Stardome
R4 no two the same
R5 The Lioness
R6 Melisma
R7 Self Indulgent
R8 Profit
R9 Tramonto

Nine races only 2 winners tipped twice by the CM tipsters one @5.50 the other @3.10 so not much damage if anyone had a level stake bet on all double selections .
Tramonto was a major disappointment in the last first up he looked well placed but performed poorly. It was a  strange ride he was in a good position with cover then hunted up three wide he looked to be off balance when under pressure and dropped out..stewards reported he  pulled up with signs of mucus obviously not how he was expected to perform but the winner swamped them at massive overs considering it was a last start winner .
I was on General Wolffe again and with a better beginning and no interference, I think he wins, still a very good run that's two weeks in a row he has shown ability but the big odds won't be on offer next time.

44.59 last 600 in 32.94 - he's got some toe.

Thought I see Remlap's Gem covered the last 600 in 31.85 down the Coast.

Cheap horse he only cost $6K the other 800m race ran slightly slower overall time but quicker final 600.
Uncle Russ Looks a nice type surprised he didn't bring more than $6K.

Used to be a time where this thread was hot with tips this tiome of year  :(

From Wenona's 100 bet thread, I like these

BR1 #7 Jack The Lad - already won!!
BR2 #2 Stardome
BR3 #1 Yiska - how good did this horse look last start
BR4 #7 Typhoon Taavi - should be on the pace - typical Gai horse that might have that fighting quality. $10 seems overs
BR6 #3 More Sundays - amazing win last start. Got turned sideways early in the straight and still won.
BR7 #1 Shaquero - $23 last night and has performed first up in the past.

Back in the day the NZ trainers came in force to the Winter Carnival, these days they will probably give it a miss and the visitors will mainly come from NSW and Victoria .
Our best hope without seeing the fields is likely to be ROTHFIRE  Heathcote also has STARTANTES which has been going extra well in group races over the border.
I have had some success lately with my black book although the Brissie ones aren't likely to measure up over the carnival.
One provincial horse AWARD KNIGHT which has won only one race has its foot on the till if it strikes a suitable race in the next few weeks.
