The Palm Meadows saga continues....

Today's C-M reports that the QRL delegation will meet with Macau magnate Stanley Ho next Monday in Hong Kong.

Without financial backing from Mr Ho, the project is finished.

Said QRL Chairman Bob Bentley: "We just have to find out what level of interest Mr Ho has in the project".

QRL Operations Manager Malcolm Tuttle has indicated no definite figure on the project was available but QR could not fund the development and Ho was a likely venture partner.

There had been earlier speculation that Magic Millions - who stand to benefit from the up-market sales complex - might have contributed some dollars.  Seems that's gone by the wayside.  Also, Qld Government are conspicuous by their absence.  Things not looking too promising for Palm Meadows.

The Goldmarket is shaping as a great race.   Plenty of track specialist in this .

A return to form of the topweight mintanni last start will see support for him.
Albert The Fat won in a canter last win then was unlucky last start.

The Barry Baldwin trained Rightson put in a great trial for this last start and should figure in the placings.

My pick in this difficult race is Black Piranha , from Mintanni, Albert The Fat , Rightson and Friendly Embrace.

No's 11 / 1,4,10,3,9  tri and F/F

Best of luck with your pick.

Gee I reckon it is the most open race that we have had for ages and you could make a case for all of them.

Be interesting to see how hot it is when the time comes for them to jump.

Yes...it's an open race alright - just like the sprints have been in Brissie for the past month.

Upilio is certainly a chance on his GC form.  He's turned in some top efforts down there.  You can be sure he'll be big odds.

Bareena is my pick.  I'm suprised she's such good odds.  Home track and on the minimum.  She'll go back, but expect her to zip home into the place.

Any reason the STARS and STRIPES (Flag)
was flying, I think it was on the infield. ?
On the long shot, of the gates as they
where moving in, it crossed the camera's path.
Any reason  :what:

Can anybody tell me if a winner came along the inside of the fence at the Goldy today ?

I can't remember one, but that's not saying much  :shy:

Only reason is that I thought Albert the fat looked a bit disappointing getting the run along the rails .... but then it got me to thinking I can not for the life of me remember a winning being on the fence all day  :/

Good call Magic C

Courier Mail has noted the same issue this morning.  Bit of a worry coming into the showcase meeting for the year.  They usually perform a fair track every year despite the 52 mtgs pa use.  Hope they can fix it.

I'd think there's not a doubt in the world that horses near the fence were disadvantaged yesterday.

We gotta be cautious making calls like that, but race after race the winners and placegetters sat wide while the inside runners - many that were among the good hopes - seemed to go backwards in the straight.

There was discussion on Sky on the "problem" during the afternoon.

This same argument gets brought up for discussion at this time of the year, every year.

Horses have been swooping down the outside from wide barriers for as long as I have been watching racing at the Coast.  You can bet come Millions day the rail will be moved out a few meters.

Over half a million in prizemoney on offer at Gold Coast tomorrow.  emthup

Not sure about the $100,000 allotted to the 3YO Quality over 2200 metres at this time of the season - but I sure wish I had a steed good enough to compete.  Someone's gonna be very happy.

The Bat Out of Hell looks set up for AZZALAND.  What's the view on KEEN COMMANDER?

The last is a fitting closing leg for the quaddie.  RUMBA JACK has his first run on the track and looks the certain favourite.  Lots of chances, IMO.

Back which ever one is longer, it's really a two horse race, though Keen's proven to me, Azzaland the up and comer.

I had a nibble at Sneaky Long and thought it had every hope hugging the rail all the way.  It just found the 1300 too far.  :tears:

There have been a few Magic Millions won along the rails.

Heavy track today.  Reduces the interest somewhat. :thumbsd:

Think that puts Keen Commander on top in the sprint.

Might speck Periander in the 1st, Little imp in the 2nd and La Zeel in the 5th.

Azzalands chances have plummeted pretty quickly with the track being rated heavy IMHO  :(
