Moranbah 24 Feb meeting lost . .

Big storm last night did a bit of damage

Replacement meeting to be advised . .

Hardworking committee, volunteers, supporters plagued with bad luck . . everything was organised for a bumper start to 2018

On a reread . .

I may have sounded a bit unsympathetic to the residents who suffered badly . . not so . . having 'been there, done that' . . I feel for you

Replacement meeting . . may NOT be advised  Labor heartland but we are 'bush' not 'metro'

And to add a bit more to the race club's misery, some toe-rags, probably off their brains, have caused $27K damage, on top of that done by storm

Bowen hosts its "Battle of the Bush" qualifier on Saturday . . Four (4) horses have been weighted . . a bit disappointing; or is the concept not what it is hyped up to be

Should be a great day out . . a fine 14-26 deg. day forecast, and track and surrounds are a picture

Maybe 2morrow  :confused1:

R&S had given  BWN a promotion  . . listed with TAB's

Meeting somewhat marred by shortage of hoops . . goes with the territory in the bush

No surprise results, although the odds-on pop was beaten in the 'feature'

Been a while . . more than 180 days the 'tell-tale' pop-up warns . .

Moranbah raced last Saturday . .

And they were getting up 'without saddlecloths' . .

Well not quite getting up; but they were racing without them . . almost

Acceptances were at all time levels, and most races had emergencies, which is where the problem arose. There was not a saddlecloth "12" to be found (probably hadn't been used since Magic last attended)

So poor old Dawn Moon had to make do with another one turned inside-out, or upside-down, or whatever . .

Alas for the omen punters the gear change was not propitious, with DM finishing an unlucky 13 lengths astern . . too far off for the historic event to be recorded on celluloid

Post shot clearly shows the inside horse, Tadween, winning the last in MKY on Wed

But judge gave it to #8 Fidereus . . .

Different angle foe the official photo???

Bowen jagged a TAB meeting, and set down for Friday . .

I may have mentioned this before, but Bowen, one of the driest spots on the coast, has a terrible reputation for losing meetings to wet weather

Friday's program is on a knife edge with the track currently rated 'Heavy 10' . .

Still a bit of rain about, and track not noted for its quick recovery  :x:

TAB are not betting on the non Tabbies in Qld at Longreach and Home Hill.

The XXXX Gold Cup is on in Longreach tomorrow and John O'Shea cast off Bollente should go close. Winner of 8 from 23 starts and 7 placings is going for four in a row.

Dam of Bollente is out of NZ Derby winning mare Popsy  who was a great NZ filly but in two Australian starts was 7th behind Mahogany in a strong AJC Derby then down the track in the Oaks behind Alcove. Don't think we saw the best of her out here.

Popsy had two stakes winners including G1 NZ 2000 Guineas winner Rock 'N Pop who I think race out here as well and stood for a while at stud.

Popsy is also the dam of the stallion Van Nistleroy (by Danehill).

Yes . . Last couple of Longreach Cups have been TAB's

And, with the 'no/ limited patron' rule the 'cup' will not be the social event of the year

I daresay the diehard punters will still be able to get 'set' though . . bushies are a resourceful lot . .

Bollente wins easily.

They should offer a fixed odds services on races like this. Not saying the whole meeting but just the special country races being able to get set would be good  :bulb:

The 'local' bookies (excluded this year of course) who may drive 6 or 7 hours each way and camp in a swag overnight to support the club . . and hopefuly get a quid . . might not agree

Hey Arthur.

Hypothesise for a moment when COVID disappears and we get Longreach packed to the rafters on Cup Day, how much are the jolly swagmen bookies going to lose if the TAB offers a fixed odds service on one single race?

I would think virtually nothing. The number of on-course patrons who pull out their phones to have a bet on the fixed odds service in preference to on-course bookies would be small given:

a) how much grog is in them and
b) the fact that their mobiles probably wouldn't pick up reception

The race club on the other hand would receive product fees and in future years that would mean better facilities, more prizemoney for the Cup - even serious sponsorship perhaps.

I think it is a no brainer.
