The $100,000 Sunshine Coast Cup on today.  Good quality field lining up with lots of chances.    emthup

Bareena has tested us all and she's got barrier 16 just to make the challenge a bit more difficult this time.  Not sure what's gonna happen to her today.  Maybe a pelican will land on her as she's about to make her run.

I'd thrown it out, but willing to give it one more chance today, hopefuly 1,2,6,10,12,15 should snag the trifecta.

If you're someone who likes taking the multis, you won't get a better race.

Good win at a nice price by Black Piranha in the main race yesterday.

On previous runs you could be forgiven that BP had to tail out a long last to be given any chance but yesterday showed he has the pace to be ridden up and still finish off his races .

I hope he turns up here for a couple of the winter carnival races...the Stradbroke could suit him down to the ground.

Just proves what a good thing beaten in the MM race he was getting back further then he had too  :(

Queensland Racing Limited (QRL) will conduct night barrier trials at Caloundra next month ahead of the Sunshine Coast Turf Club's first twilight meeting at Caloundra on 21 February while work is carried out to install a new cushion track to replace the main grass track at Toowoomba's Clifford Park.

QRL Racing Services manager Paul Brennan said the lights at Caloundra were now fully operational and conducting barrier trials at night provided a great opportunity to test the lighting.  He also said QRL would scrap the $66 starter's fee for the trials.

"Whilst the lights have undergone a stringent testing regime it is important that all race-day functions are appropriately tested prior to the initial race meeting," Brennan said.

lol, just switching to Ballina. Good meeting there today.

At the SC , those horses would have been nominated for the grass and now running on the cushion. Be interesting to say the least.

As soon as DD pops in with some specials, you'll be onto them  ;)

40 scratchings on the cushion, could be an idea and take note of those horses and when they have a run on it in future and don't perform, back them next start on grass

40 scratchings on the cushion

It's an all weather track, why the Hell would there be 40 scratchings Bob Bentley ? Wet or Dry, the track remains the same  :what:

Could it have something to do with the fact that trainers don't want to race on it ?

Blooooooooooooooody hell.  I guess we could be kind and think that Stewards were looking ahead to a possible damp afternoon.  There are plenty of black clouds over the mountains, but no rain to speak of on the Coast as yet.

The 40 scratchings come as a disappointment and reflect reluctance on the part of some trainers to race on the Cushion.  I think it's also fair to say that a wet Cushion is quite different to a damp Cushion.  From what I saw of Friday's meeting, there was a huge advantage being wide after the downpour.

Butttttttttt...we'll find a winner later. :shy:

Possibly they are also just trying to push the Cushion Track idea onto everybody at every possible chance to justify their reasoning for installing it in the first place and help with the toowoomba debacle.

Funny thing is it looks to be working against them .......... 40 scratching seems a definite indicator of trainers feelings about racing on the synthetic surface .... surely Bob Bentley can't twist this fact to suit his cushion track agenda  :thumbsd:
