fours, Surprise Baby is the exception, not the rule, she was outstanding and as I said I don't really care where a horse comes from, it isn't just about the horses, it is about the dream and Horses don't grow up hoping and dreaming they can win a Melbourne Cup,
It is an Aussie Icon.....would the Italians sell the Vatican if they were offered enough Money?
Would Egypt sell the Pyramids?? Australia just closed Ayers Rock(Uluru) to the Public cos it is an ICON not just a piece of Real Estate
Once Australians give up the dream all is lost as far as being an Icon is concerned.....it isn't just Owners, it is more Trainers and Jockeys, it is their life long wish to win a Melbourne Cup......now only a few of the Millionaire Jockeys have a chance to chase rides from overseas stables
If it was a True Melbourne Cup there is little doubt Surprise Baby wins, by true Melbourne Cup I mean a True handicap, true Handicaps are nearly always solidly run, Lightweights try to make the good horses carry their weight, which can make it better for the good horses as Luck plays a much smaller role in Victory, Handicaps are significantly fairer despite large fields, they don't pack up so much
As I was saying Surprise Baby is an exception to the rule, the last one similar was Takeover Target and that was about 15 years and a million horses ago and 20 years before Takeover Target for Vo Rogue,
Like punters who think Gelding Improves all Horses based on a couple of horses in the last 50 years who improved......they are exceptions you can't make them the rule......When in that period there have probably been in excess of a Million Gelding operations with Zero Improvement......no scientific experiment would be accepted on that kind of anecdotal data and yet in Horse racing Punters buy it.....is it any wonder that they get away with selling the Melbourne Cup??(The very soul of Horse racing)
