Pp7,

....... deliver me from temptation......

Most temptations that lead one astray offer some form of fun.

In the same religious vein:-

Maybe "fours" would like to run a "Hail Mary" comp where only selections of > 20/1 are acceptable. :bulb:

JWH,

I like >20/1 picks but regard them as legitimate picks rather than 'hail mary' picks - that is an inportant psycholgical difference.

Another psychological difference is that I dont need them to win. Running fourth is just fine.

As for high strike rate scenarios where I could pick my spots for my best favourites I had 6 picks and 5 won and the other ran 2nd. Picking your spots makes a difference to strike rate and also to profitability.

Fours.

This is the appropriate thread for the "psychological stuff". People won't be able to see what score they got yesterday if we clutter this up too much.

And if that is correct then this would be the points table

Player 18/08/18 25/08/18 01/09/18 TOTAL
JWesleyHarding 9 8 7 17
Gintara 8 6 2 14
specialweek2 7 7 0 14
sobig 9 4 4 13
Spudda028 6 5 2 11
ratsack 8 3 2 11
Brian Mc 6 3 5 9
PoisonPen7 5 3 1 8
turfdeli 3 3 3 6
wily ole dog 5 1 0 6
westie 0 6 6 6
Racehorses 0 2 3 2
Willy18 0 0 0 0

The discussions on the merits of differing reward systems are open for discussion.

There were 3 good priced winners this week with Racehorses Humidor ($25.50 NSW TAB) and westie and TurfD's selection of Ball Of Muscle ($9 NSW TAB)

Great stuff guys   emthup

But unfortunately this style of tipping comp does not reward value selections.

Good for a bit of fun on a Saturday but I feel the tab.com.au comp with $400 prizemoney on offer you have to incorporate value selections into the points system.

If you arrive at this point then the choice is the new points system introduced by Calvo or just have the $10 each way like we used to.

I think the majority wanted to maintain the points system? Speak up now if this is not of your thinking. I was happy with the $10 each way but am quite happy to go with the majority     - just said that if others had similar thoughts and wanted to post them.

This is not one of the environmental social media threads. You don't get flamed if you have a differing opinion here

Hmmm,

Pretty sure we had more people entering the comps with the $10 each way approach but that just might be the Facebook effect of less participation in forums generally since its emergence.

I have not won a comp under the Calvo approach but don't mind if we keep it either.

That why I suggested it, SW

In saying that I do prefer calvos scoring system for the main comp

I like that we can have different comps with different rules   emthup

I wouldn't change anything on either comp
