Use to listen to Andrew Bensley on Sat. mornings and his 9am hour for years.

Had to turn him off when he began opening his show with "only 250 more sleeps before the Everest" and this sort of complete nonsense.
Not allowed to discuss anything even slightly controversial, nothing negative and even banned from promoting anything Victorian by the dictators in command must have been difficult for him.

Hopefully Andrew can now move somewhere where he can write and talk with just a bit of freedom!

Thoroughbred Weekly today finished with a selection of Bensley reporting through the ages quite interesting although a bit like an obituary ..he lives in Melton apparently I assume that's Melton where the harness racing is in Victoria I had always imagined he was a Sydneysider.....too young to retire maybe SKY has put him out to grass under COVID-19

He openly said it was nothing of the sort, began discussing with his family and went to management long before COVID to discuss.

I could be wrong but Munsie is probably the last of his group from his era with Bensley retiring.

It shows we are all getting old as I remember his on Sports Radio with TK (not sure where he is these days) and Richard Freedman etc or his white gloves and MC.

Bensley has been very vocal that he’s not retiring.

His twitter feed indicates what that might be.

....................... a more relevant question concerns the suggestion that he was 'dictaded to' about what he must say, could say and could not say.

........ a developing concern now that 'news corpse' have a stranglehold on the racing media nationally -- and the 'always independent' SMH thinks that means independent of the punters.

He's 4ft 9" and looks a lot like that fellow strutting down the street tossing the Steeden in the air.

You've got to laugh at Andrew's twitter page......the Victorian resident can't stop tweeting about all things Victorian.

You can just sense it....."the freedom at last"

One of his first posts today was to retweet something sourced from TAB on Chris Waller. So obviously no problems there.

He has retweeted tips from 3 sources, one of them the Bathurst greyhounds - so not "all things Victorian".

All the media reports about him leaving were glowing in their praise and contained nothing negative at all.

Is there something I'm missing?

The empathetic response across the media on Saturday was exceptional -- brand-AB is respected.

Looking forward, the idea that he may want 'more independence' probably does not fit easily with an existing racing-media model so demanding of compliance with a strict, no-negatives, party-line.

That the Trumper runs a twitter-model, almost exclusively, may suggest others can be an 'unpaid' commentator from the sidelines -- this would be an interesting development if he has an agenda.

.........................can he be invited on to the forum........ a Cross-Hoss would be welcome.

A bit silly to criticise him for concentrating on NSW when for the last few years his main focus has been with Sky Sports radio.

Pretty sure RSN shows a "bias" towards Victoria and other states radio give preference to their own state

When Andrew first took the 2KSKY Sydney gig from the giggling Nadia it was a surprise to many.

He had been the long time Victorian racing go to man for the Sydney station.

Just how the Victorian resident would run the show from Melbourne, especially as he had strong Mel connections was a bit puzzling.
To his credit he did it and for the most part did it well.

He could never really have envisaged that one day he would be expected to be promoting The Kosciuszko while pretending that the Caulfield Cup wasn't on.
That must have been extremely difficult.......bit like asking an All Black supporter to go for the Wallabies.

Does anyone remember who won The Kosciuszko?

Good luck to him......for all the years he managed it I couldn't have managed it for that many hours.

Has he said that he was forced to "be promoting The Kosciuszko while pretending that the Caulfield Cup wasn't on" to you?

Wouldn't know him from Adam.

I turned him off a couple of years ago and never went back.

There was a time when I foolishly thought it was important to keep up with all the 'racing news', so I listened regularly.

Much better ways to know how a C Waller horse you fancy might go,rather than listen to the words from Chris's mouth........watch the betting in the last few minutes will tell you a lot more ......a lot lot more!

His last 4 posts as at 10.40 talk about Warwick Farm with interviews from 4 Sydney trainers.

In fact scrolling down the page he looks to be posting far more on Sydney than he is on any other state. Interview with Glen Munsie from the TAB.

I don't think Peter Mair will be able to answer your question on who is paying him. Looking at his twitter feed it certainly is not racing.com.

The dictators in Sydney may have felt he had fulfilled his role and were quite happy to let him move to.......whatever the new role is that he has moved to.

Quite frankly I couldn't care less.....I find it a bit amusing and No...... I won't be following Andrew!

Well done to the dictators for acknowledging the loyal service the Victorian they employed to promote their NSW business, gave them.
Wagga is getting close to the Vic border so possibly a little message there!

Could have done without looking though ......I've ended up putting $5 eachway on the Squamosa filly......light weight and not bad wet trackers.
First of the Contributors I've seen at the races .......so I'll be watching.
