Dwyer To Move To Bendigo

Wednesday, 14 January 2009: Queensland trainer Shaun Dwyer is set to shut his Deagon stables and set up a new operation in Victoria.

Dwyer, one of Queensland's leading trainers for the last decade since returning from Sydney, said the move was not about disillusionment with Queensland racing but the opportunity to test his skills against some of Australia's top trainers.

Dwyer is in negotiations for a property adjacent to Bendigo where he hopes to start with more than 30 horses and build his team from there.

He added he has informed his existing clients and many are happy to have their horses prepared in Victoria and hopes to be operational there by the end of February.

Dwyer's biggest successes have been in Victoria, when travelling star mare Regimental Gal, who won both the Group 1 Lightning and Australia Stakes.

There is a greater opportunity for a trainer to test his skill at preparing stayers in Victoria than in Queensland or any other state for that matter.

Good sporting move.   emthup

Limited opportunities, hot, boring weather, flies, mozzies, sharks,  dust, travelling distances, shocking looking cricket grounds, ugly women ..... why wouldn't you move away from it ?

Have always been a big wrap for him, but I'd be staying in Queensland if I was him. Qld racing is in good shape and Vic racing is very tough.

Anyhow wish him all the best.

Woody
Other Queenslanders may say I'm wrong but am sure they had stock car racing at Drayton which was big in the 60's.

Shaun Dwyer still plans a move to Bendigo despite Victoria's devastating bushfires.  He will saddle up his last runner in Brisbane when Ana Me Cori lines up in the Moreton Bar Hcp tommorow at Eagle Farm.  He will have a couple in at Ipswich on Thursday & at Caloundra on Sunday which will be his finale in QLD.

He says he is supposed to head south next week, but has to delay it a bit because of the bushfires and the paperwork is still being finalised to move into the stables which are next to the course east of the township.

I wish him well.

I remember going to some old airport as a kid to watch car racing, but that might have been Leyburn.  That was over 54 years back
