Close to impossible unless:

a) The real Lucky Secret shows up
b) Mind Your Head beats them all on fitness

Have to agree there wily .... not sure what happened with LS last start though, I backed him  ........  thought he would have been better off letting him stride  :/

Spot on Magic

I reckon they rode him too pretty.
Should've let him rip and put a gap in them around the turn instead of holding him

Wasn't the Carlyon a 2000m race in previous times?

Research finds it's been 1200 since 1989

No never been at 2000m . It was first run in 1988 as the Stanley Wootan Stakes and has always been at 1200. It used to be run after the three day Flemington meeting but was moved when the Australia Stakes went from the Jan spot to its current feb spot.

Let him Rip ??? he was gone 800 meters out.
The horse was not well , nothing to do with the ride. I think he will be a good horse but i do have one concern and that is all the horses he beat last Autumn where very ordinary in the spring. The only real form race that he has won is the Liston .
If he is any good he should win on Friday night.

Think you mean the Carlyon Cup OL. Its run over 1800 at Caulfield.

Just checked and its 1400 now.

A mate who works at Caulfield told me the other week that Light Fantastic is flying.

So was Lucky Secret!  :p

I would be tempted to go Mind Your Head again if I could get each-way odds.

Final Decision

  • Backing Light Fantastic
  • Laying El Segundo if under $10

Good luck all!

I had just a little speculator on El Segundo at $12 - if he's anywhere near ready, his class will put him right in the finish.

Quinny was a moral wasn't it :)

Lucky was a lot better ridden this time and held off a very strong late charge from LF

Pretty good return by LF. I don't know if i would be looking at too many sprint races for him. He still looks to me like he lacks a little zip to be a top class sprinter. I thought his run looked more like a horse wanting 1400. I would be looking at the C.F Orr and then maybe a little freshen into the Newmarket if they are not convinced about the mile with him. Not sure i am buying inot the Newitt hype over his run. I thought it was a good return but he had a gem of a run and had every chance to win. The best part of his run was he kept coming and finished off well.
We will see how WH comes back shortly but on his three year old sprint form i would be wanting to be on WH over LF in sprint races at this stage.

Yep, I agree Gamma.

I don't think they have a doubt about him running a mile, it's just their paranoid about taxing him too much and not having a horse in 6 months.

I reckon a mile is definately his go, I won't back him in a 1200m sprint again
