Great win by Marasco in WA today. Looked to be flat footed, but turn of foot to win with ears pricked was amazing in my opinion. 60kgs too  8-)

Yes it's going to be a good Spring.

Great win ... looks to have really strengthened during the break , and i feel he will really measure up for this spring.

Haradahype to me was very disappointing, they said he was going to be very vulnerable first up , but it doesn't get any easier from here on in

Westie, I think this Spring is going to be one of the most exciting ever.... so many great horses competing for the prizes.

Marasco Makes His Mark

westoZracing.com

Marasco stamped himself as a worthy ambassador of Western Australia to go to Melbourne for the Spring Carnival when he surprised most of the big crowd, on course just to see him, by winning the $70,000 Carlton Draught Belmont Newmarket (1200m) with an ease that even his trainer Fred Kersley did not expect.

His next mission is the J J Liston stakes over 1400m for $200,000 at standard weight for age and the big question on the lips of racegoers at Belmont was Who will ride the budding champion in Melbourne.

To say that Harvey did his chances no harm with his ride in the Newmarket is to state the blindingly obvious as Marasco did not go round a horse on his way to a 3 length victory and although giving the gelding a couple of cracks to keep his mind on the job the horse could not have had an easier run.

Even Kersley who has seen it all before was surprised by the win: " He just shouldn't have been able to do that but he was given a great run by Harvey we thought Marasco would need a few favours to win today and he got them but he was very impressive"

Settled near the rear of the field the Scenic five year old covered the last 600m in the blistering time of 33.57 secs to beat Ripped with Marasco's stablemate Is Amazing fighting on gamely to finish 3rd.

Real Mak and Vain Crusader were slightly disappointing but will still win good races this time in.

Numbers : 1, 6, 4, 2, 7, Time 1.10.74. Last 600m: 34.07. Margins: 3 lengths, 1/2 head, 1 3/4 lengths

Everything was there to suggest that Apache could beat Harada on Saturday.  It may be the only time that happens this prep.

Marasco is another story however - could really be the one they all have to beat this Spring.

Yes a big win over here, Fred Kersley had repeatedly stated that he was not happy with horse going in but it just shows what a great horse he is & can be. Coupled with Paul Harvey ( I hope ) he will be formidable when he goes east.

Hi Ark , it looks like Marasco has put on a lot of weight 20-30kg ... he really looks like he has strengthened and matured into a very nice horse.

He only has to improve 2-3 lengths to be the best horse in Oz in my opinion, and if he is bigger and stronger then 2-3 l is well and truly possible .... can't wait to see him get to Melbourne , i am really looking foward to the Spring and some of these clashes with El Segundo, Pompeii Ruler and the likes, it's going to be one hell of a Spring
