Thought we already had a thread for this but couldn't find one.

A thread for discussion on the various names people can come up with for the horses and dogs they race.

Ther must be a lot of Game Of Thrones fans out there.

In the past few weeks I've seen:

Eddard Stark
Rob Stark

- both in  tonight

Khaleesi (horse)
Khaleesi (dog)
Lanister (sic)
Mother Of Dragons

Of course the best performed is probably Dothraki.

Any others?

Ygritte and Lannister are two reasonably handy thoroughbreds that spring to mind.

A couple of quick searches on RISA (well, its successor) found a Baratheon, King's Landing, Bravosi, Game of Thrones (for the more literal among us) and Lannister Gold - although each of these seem fairly modestly performed

Yes. Of course. Ygritte. How could I miss that one machelli.   :slaphead:

I don't think I've ever seen a television series capture the imagination as much as G.O.T.'s has. It is a great show. Have to hang out for season 6 now

Will have to look at the Golden Slipper noms for next year. I'll bet there are a couple there.

A colleague of mine with more than a passing interest in the racing game has spent many a week-end/holiday within the Snowy River mountain - in fact had a property their for years.

Just loves the place and has caught a few brumbies from time to time only to get them up and going for the kids enjoyment.

You can understand the sentiment associated with some of his racing stock;

Pinch River - a perennial river of the Snowy Mountain catchment

Kuttamurra Al - they have taken a little poetic license here. Al is a well known identity living in the vicinity of Kunama Hut near Mt Clarke on the eastern side of the range.

Ingeegoodbee - otherwise known as Cobbers Track a steep rocky climb in the mountains

Bidii Babe - they tell me Bidii does exist in the area but not on my map

Snowy River Run - the Snowy River commences its 352 km run to Bass Strait form the base of Mount Kosciuszko

Snowy River Rapid  - get the picture

Coolamine -  a hut high up in the mountains

Pinch Mountain - guess where?

Pinch Spirit - and in the Spirit of……

A couple more to come as well so I await the registration.

Suggan Buggan (pronounced Shoogan Boogan) - a little village on the Suggan Buggan river in the Victorian high country

Zarlena - daughters names are Zali and Alena and you can be assured they have Snowy River blood in their veins.

Here's one for turfdeli from Game Of Thrones (haven't watched this week's tape yet)

Werribee R4

#15 STANNIS BARATHEON

runs 3rd and pays $5.50 the place.

Adam Crittendon struggled with the pronunciation

Social Distancing the Horse!

It was always going to happen, a horse called Social Distancing, and we saw her in action at the Randwick trials on Tuesday morning.

A two year-old Sebring filly prepared by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Social Distancing observed the rules of her naming sitting wide throughout and was strong to the line as the widest runner to post a head victory in the 742 metre scamper.

It was her first public outing and showed a good deal of promise for the future.

Passed in at Inglis Easter and retained to race by her US based breeder Mt Brilliant Farm, Social Distancing is a half-sister to Group I placed stakes-winner The Virginian from blue-blooded import Redwood Dancer (USA).

Redwood Dancer was bought by Marette Farrell as agent for Mt Brilliant Farm at the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for $650,000 when carrying Social Distancing.

After producing the filly, she was then sent back to North America and has since had a filly by Tapit in 2019 and a filly by Uncle Mo this year so is certainly going to the elite stallions as befits a mare of her pedigree.

Redwood Dancer is an unraced Forestry daughter of Group II winner Fiery Pursuit from the family of Champion Fillies Flanders and Surfside as well as Champion European 2YO Air Force Blue.

From her time at stud in Australia, Redwood Dancer has left three foals to race and all are winners highlighted by The Virginian with Social Distancing her fourth and final foal born in this country.

Will be worth a bit if Gai can get some black type into her record.
