Spring over for talented Rubisaki

Star mare Rubisaki won’t race again this spring after suffering a ‘slight tear’ in her suspensory.

The four-year-old pulled up lame after running in the Group 2 Rose Of Kingston Stakes at Flemington on Saturday and was now set to head to the paddock for 10 weeks.

It’s a major blow to trainer Patrick Payne and her owners, headed by Prime Thoroughbred’s Joe O’Neill, who had high hopes for the speedster after a dominant autumn as a three-year-old.

Rubisaki was also beaten 5.6 lengths at her other spring start in the Group 3 Cockram Stakes when a $2.90 favourite.

“Patrick had his vet do a scan (Monday) morning and she has a slight tear of her suspensory. She will require a 10 week spell and she will go to the paddock immediately and then be brought back to be prepared for an autumn preparation in Sydney,” O’Neill said.

“These things happen with horses and it’s not life threatening or career ending. So in that regard, we are disappointed, but pleased the injury she has sustained is only a slight one.”

Rubisaki was a $41 chance for the Golden Eagle with Sportsbet, but was at one stage a $9 chance for the race.

Farnan - Report From Co-Trainer Adrian Bott

Co-Trainer Mr Adrian Bott has advised Racing NSW Stewards this morning that Farnan has been found to have bruising to the off-fore foot and is mildly lame in that foot as a result. He advised that Farnan has not been accepted in the Roman Consul Stakes this Saturday as it has been treated with anti-inflammatory medication.

Mr Bott advised the stable is hopeful that condition will resolve quickly and the colt will not miss any work. Mr Bott agreed to provide an update to Stewards later this week in respect to the progress of the condition.

Farnan will be inspected by Racing NSW Veterinarians in the lead up to The TAB Everest.

Actually be very careful with that suggestion that a horse is "spelling" Apparently if a horse has a few days in a paddock to refresh after a hard run, it is listed as "spelling" Waller does it frequently....but when a horse goes to the paddock, even if it is just a few days R & R it must be notified and Officialdom then lists it as spelling, it happend a few weeks ago and the Horse won on the following Saturday, I think, just can't recall the name of the horse though....so never tear up your ticket until you're sure!
