I'm with a couple on here why if the whip is padded why the restrictions seems bullshit to me. Mark don't worry the old whips did hurt I was leading one in at grafton one day with marlon dolendo up and it was playing  up so he give it a cut down the shoulder but the little prick missed it and got me on the arm and i had a welt the shape of the whip flap for about 3 days. I reckon it won't be long and all they'll use the whip for is to tie a carrot on the end of it and hang it out in front of the horse.

Mate you'd know having been a jock, (as a mate once told me) - when ya get beaten by a lip, ya cant stop kickin yaself, thinkin if only I'd rounded that corner a bit tighter, if only I'd got stuck into him just a second sooner and so on... I'm sure there must be a million and one thoughts like thiese that would never stop going through your head, especially after going down by a lip in the Melbourne Cup..
I reckon Brown's thought about it every day since the race...

Marky our lives are always fulled with if only.....if only i did this...if only i did that...will send ya mad worrying about that shit....the thing  is its alright for blokes like  you and others....to sit and watch a race and then go over the reply ...and say  what was he doing on that blah blah blah...as he should of done this or should of done that.....image this mate...your on a pushbike ok...going down this big massive hill and you have no brakes at all....now down the bottom is a fork in the road ..but only one leads the way out and the other is a dead end...and your getting closer and its a split second decision on which way you should go.....well thats what its like to jocks at times....

Every couch potatoe loves to bag negative things that happen.
Footy is a classic, they'll slow something down and look at about 14 different angles, and finally come to a decision which is still debatable, yet they bag a ref or touchie for making a wrong decision when there was less than an inch in it 

I am another who can't see the logic in changing to a padded whip & then enforcing restrictions on the padded whip. I think these whip rules will create a lot of problems. I also don't see why flicking a horse with a high whip action is deemed to be so bad. Isn't it preferable to flick a horse on the side than to whip it hard on the rump? 

There will be so many jockeys in trouble for riding their mounts out in the next couple months. Then there will be the ones who don't ride their mounts out & getting fined for not trying to secure the best position. 
Seems like a fine line & I suppose the jockeys would have a good case to appeal if they get fined for not riding their mounts out. All they have to do is say I was following the new rules & purposely stopped whipping the horse even though I knew it would cost me victory. Stewards & Jockeys will have many headaches looming over this issue.

Tony Pattillo on Wednesday became the first rider in Queensland to be fined under the new national whip rule.

Pattillo was fined half of his prizemoney percentage and forfeited his riding fee for excessive use of the whip on Andy Said who won the Moreton Hire Plate (1030m).

The Gold Coast jockey used the whip on six occasions in consecutive strides inside the 200 metres, twice the legal limit.

Technically you maybe right, but didn't Takeover Target lose the Villiers when it was taken off him ?

I'm talking about the New Whip Rule, where a horse& jockey cannot have the race taken off them. Only the jockey can be suspended or fined by the new rule.
What has Jay Ford Whip use on TT in Villiers have to do with it?

Quite simply if somebody breaks the rules they should lose the race. The fact they have not made this the number one option and the fact it is not an option at all makes the whole rule a nonsense.

Rode the horse for luck got through on the fence but held out by the winner.Gave it a decent flogging maybe the heat affected him.He should know better.

It's ridiculous that jockeys have to count how many times they whip a horse. The whole whip rule is a disaster & a time-bomb for a jockey who has to decide to keep whipping & win or stop whipping & lose. The jockeys are really in a no-win situation now. What will happen in a big race, if a jock is whipping a horse frantically trying to get it to lift, then purposely stops whipping & gets beat a nose? The owners/trainers will be filthy on the jock not mentioning the punters who will be hanging over the fence to lynch him.
In that situation any jockey worth his salt will do his best to win rather than follow the rules & lose. 

The big races this Spring is where it's all going to be highlighted & it's gonna be ugly for the jocks who follow the whip rules & lose when they should have won.

Yes thats exactly right mate. And unfortunately for jocks, at Flemington they have to ride their horse back to the mounting yard for half the straight right in front of the irate crowd
