After a week if indecision Caulfield trainer Colin Little has accepted with 2006 Tatts Cox Plate champion El Segundo for Saturday’s Group 1 Sportingbet Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Little was undecided even as late as Tuesday as to whether he would run El Segundo on Saturday or save him for the Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday week.

A final field of 12 has accepted for Saturday’s $402,000 feature.

Reigning Cox Plate champion Maldivian resumes from a spell and is poised to run a cheeky race first-up after drawing ideally in barrier two. While Mick Price’s stable big guns Alamosa and Light Fantastic have drawn barrier eight and nine respectively.

Alamosa, which won the Group 1 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield last spring, will be ridden for the first time by Damien Oliver. Alamosa’s regular jockey Craig Newitt has stuck with Light Fantastic.

Of the dozen runners in the Orr, which also includes 2007 BMW Caulfield Cup winner Master O’Reilly, 10 are Group 1 winners. The only exceptions are grand Warrnambool galloper Baughurst and the David Hayes-trained three-year-old Von Costa de Hero.

Mal always runs a cracker fresh, should get a great run on the pace in this but the price worrys me a bit. I reckon he is too short at the $5.50 currently.

Maldivian won't lead over 1400m

Theseo would probably end up leading ??

If those barriers are right and they are from RISA, then how suspect is the draw? Nine of the twelve starters have drawn their TAB No !!!!! Might they be their ballot No's.

They do say that computer generated random numbers are not random at all, it all depends on the seed equation.

43 degrees forecast for Melbourne on Saturday so all of your prognostications may be simply academic if RVL run true to recent form and defer due to the heat. 44 forecast for Bendigo on Saturday where there is a meeting scheduled as well. Will be interesting to see the outcome.

Von Costa De Hero was an impressive run at the Valley. It was not on its' best behavior that night and ran a very creditable 3rd. My choice from LF with Niconero a chance for 3rd

Von Costa De Hero keeps running good races in top company, just would like to see it actually win a race. Good field.

I was after $3.60 Wily...so that's good enough for me...I think it will be backed to a clear 2/1 fave...so I'm getting on today...just waiting on IAS to frame a market.

I love the horse KD, spied him on the old forum before he even raced  emthup

I think I need one more run to convince me that he's back.

I don't trust that Lucky Secret form

I think he will brain them if he was to produce one of his earlier runs...and I was more than satisfied with his first up run behind LS...
LS was a dead set spesh that night...they gapped the others...LF has the fitness edge on the Cox Plate winner...ES will be running on again...1400 is perfect 2nd up...I'd be disappointed if he goes down...in my opinion only a terrible ride from Froggy will be his downfall...we'll see what happens.

As much as I stay away from Gai's (still not sure why really) I think Theseo will suprise some this prep.
I reckon he'll win this, and go on to win multiple G1's this year....is he the new Shogun?!!!
A lovely lovely horse who i think really gives his all....
Take the Cox Plate now at 15's or so!

Shogun, I am not convinced of Theseo in the Cox plate but you are right, he is a good, tough horse. the way he won the Mackinnon last year when he put his head and battled hard is a good pointer for the future. Maybe Theseo and Light Fantastic will fight out the finish.

Could happen - but I prefer Gai's at Flemington when they come down here. Caulfield seems to be a bit of a graveyard for her.

the cox plate market can change drastically, upto a week out from the race, and you want to take 15s about a horse 8 months out, personally wouldn't take 15s about anything this far out,but each to their own,gl
