Takeover suffers setback while preparing to face Apache Cat
Wednesday, 5 November 2008
Brilliant sprinter Takeover Target has suffered a slight setback and is in doubt to return to racing in Saturday’s GI Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) at Flemington.
The Patinack Farm Classic was set to be the scene of another clash of Australia’s two most popular gallopers with last season’s champion sprinter Apache Cat also being nominated for the event.
Trainer Joe Janiak said that the nine-year-old sustained the injury while galloping at trackwork at Flemington on Tuesday morning.
“It’s a slight setback, he lost a shoe while he was working and ended up with a stone bruise,” he said.
“He’s a bit sore and is a bit tender down in the hoof.
“Hopefully it is only a slight problem for him, we’ve poulticed it and hopefully he’ll be okay”.
Janiak said that he will decide on Thursday wether Takeover Target is fit to run on Saturday but said that the Celtic Swing gelding’s future plans are in no danger at all.
“You never know, he might be completely right tomorrow morning and be able to run,” he said.
“We are still looking forward to taking him over to Perth, there is no doubt about that part of the trip”.
