Hawkes prepares Mentality for Premiere

Randwick Guineas winner Mentality is on track to resume in Saturday week's Premiere Stakes following a strong barrier trial at Warwick Farm.
The Group One winner was among a host of John Hawkes-trained stars continuing their spring carnival build up at Friday morning's session.
Mentality could be joined in the 1200m Rosehill feature by stablemates Forensics and Camarilla, who tuned up for her return with a pleasing second to Miss Argyle in the final heat.
Forensics was entered for Saturday's San Domenico Stakes at Randwick but Hawkes did not accept with the filly, leaving Shaft to fly the stable's flag.
The Golden Slipper winner and Camarilla are expected to be nominated for the weight-for-age Premiere and The Run To The Rose (1300m), a quality handicap for three-year-olds, both run on Saturday week.
"(Mentality) might run next week in the Premiere, we'll see what happens and how he pulls up from the trial," Hawkes said.
"I'm still umming and ahhing with where I run Forensics. She wasn't ready to run tomorrow but she's fine and we'll just wait another week or two longer.
"I'll see how Camarilla pulls up from the trial but she'll probably run in the next week or two."
Mentality was ridden by Blake Shinn and after being allowed to find his feet early he strode out strongly to the line despite being under a good hold, finishing sixth to Pasikatera.
Shinn was happy with the giant chestnut's effort.
"Beautiful. He was lovely and relaxed which is a good sign and he went to the line nicely," Shinn said.
