You would think that if he thought there was no way he could win a protest
it must be impossible to have a result overturnedt in Ireland.

He was riding for the dad of the runner up and if he protested, it may not have been viewed favourably by the stable. All reports indicate he was not a willing participant in the protest.

Il Paradiso should have won and Dettori’s failure to straighten his mount cost the O’Briens dearly both ways.

Interesting it was a stewards protest.....been a while since I've seen one....almost guaranteed it will be upheld.

You would think so . . but I can vaguely remember one in Brisbane(?), a long time ago . . Arsenal may recall . . that was dismissed

RACE 1: Shopper Media Handicap 1100m:

Sophiella – Stewards considered a protest lodged by Mr W. Birch, Deputy Chairman of Stewards, on
behalf of the connections of Sophiella alleging interference by the 3rd placegetter, Caccini, near the
300m. After considering the evidence Stewards found that near the 300m Sophiella had endeavoured
to establish a run between Can't Find Snippy and Caccini, and shortly after had to be steadied when
Caccini shifted in marginally to improve to the inside of Invictus Salute, which shifted out at the same
time. As the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that Sophiella had fully established clear
running between Can't Find Snippy and Caccini, the protest was dismissed. Began awkwardly and
made contact with its nearside barrier partition, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced and losing
ground. Between the 300m and the 200m Sophiella was shifted to the outside of Caccini to improve.
Over the final 100m Sophiella had difficulty obtaining clear running when being shifted to the outside
of Invictus Salute to improve.

Looked like the third horse flattened Sophiella would have upheld it ....bad decision IMO

Ya killin' me!

Got a good tip for Sophiella - backed it with both TAB and Ladbrokes where I would have got my stake back as a bonus bet if it run third.

Should have certainly run 2nd.

At the time I didn't really think about interference. Barrier 1 killed it. You could see Reith knew he was in trouble long before the "interference". He took the wrong decision when looking for a run - which I hasten to add I don't blame him for. Jockeys are not going to get it right 100% of the time when faced with making a decision on the fly.

Reminds me of that apprentice in Brisbane they gave a long suspension to for taking a wrong decision. Never agreed with that. Whatever happened to him?

I’d need to see a front on view to change my mind but no way would I uphold that in what I saw
