Looks a promising type of horse. She won her maiden by 5l, before going for a spell. Has had some leg issues I understand, but looked very good winning by 8l yesterday.

Does anyone recall, or have research material to reveal, whether Striking Force led all the way to win the 1965 metropolitan?

I'll throw one back Geoff (and older forum members)

When I first started listening to the races circa mid 70's, there were 4 radio stations in Sydney broadcasting racing.

2BL, 2GB, 2UE and 2KY - 2GB gave it up for a short while then started up again.

The Sydney callers for each station we

2BL - Geoff Mahoney
2GB - Johnny Tapp and Ray Warren
2UE - Des Hoysted
2KY - Ian Craig

The Melbourne callers I can't recall exactly

Joe Brown was definitely on 2BL

Pretty sure Bill Collins was 2UE

That leaves 2 stations and one caller I can recall - the great Bert Bryant.

Can anyone fill in the gaps for the Melbourne callers on 2GB and 2KY?

I think 2GB took Bert Bryant.

2KY Bryan Martin maybe or John Russell

but not 100%

PP and JWH , Bert Bryant definitely called on what was known at the time as the " Greater 3UZ". His understudy was John Russell, and the third in line was Bryan Martin. Their calls were relayed through the Macquarie network with John Tapp in Sydney : Vince Curry in Brisbane . Their main rivals from memory were Des Hoysted at 2UE, Bill Collins at 3DB and Keith Noud at 4BK. The ABC had Joe Brown in Melbourne, Geoff Mahoney in Sydney and Larry Pratt in Brisbane. An absolute golden age of race broadcasting.

Yes. Ends up on Anzac Day.

Said he simply wants a "change" after a long career with Sky.

Will continue his news on some outlets and twitter.
