I thought the only amendment to that list would have been in the unlikely event that another horse should break Winx's standing record.

Verry Elleegant has a long way to go to get to Winx, but I would think with 10 Group 1's including a Cups double in different years would mean her record should be on this thread eventually.

If William Haggas hadn't sent Addeyb out here for the past two seasons she would have had an extra $3.13 million.

As a kickback for tipping my daughter's boyfriend the Melb Cup placegetters I have been given a copy of The Immortals of Australian Horse Racing by Alan Whiticker.  Tontonan may be disappointed to know that horses that raced prior to the 1860s did not get a look in. 23 horses are named as immortals and there is a section on honourable mentions.  A reference to this site appears in the bibliography.

Cheers

Stumbled on an article on Eurythmic published by US paper Daily Racing Form Fri 19 May 1922 (p11).  The article noted that Eurythmic had passed Carbine's Australian prizemoney record of USD 148,130 when Eurythmic won the USD 12,000 Futurity Stakes (run 25 Feb 1922).  Eurythmic's last race start was 8 March 1923.  The article provides a full race record showing prizemoney earned from each start in USD to 25 Feb 1922. The article erroneously states that the record is complete to 1 July 1921.

Interestingly a race worth USD 12,500 run in New York in that era would have been sufficient to attract American champion horses such as Sir Barton, Grey Lag, Exterminator and Mad Hatter.

Merry Christmas

Here is an update of Australian horses with 20 or more wins. There are obviously some New Zealanders, but to qualify, a horse needed to have won an Australian Group One (or equivalent).

Nature Strip and Winx are the only two to have been foaled since 2008.

(A star next to the number of wins indicates a dead -heat)

Some others you might want to look at that 20+ wins

Name   G1s   Starts   Wins

KINDERGARTEN (NZ) 1937   6   35   25
SIR SLICK (NZ) 2001   6   151   22
CYNISCA (NZ) 1886   5   56   20
Amythas (NZ) 1916    1   43   22   won 1920 WeRC NZ St Leger which became a G1
Beauty Generation (NZ) 2012 (late Montaigne in AUS)   8   41   20

Beauty Generation (late) Montaigne did not race in Hong Kong until he turned 4.  His 2 and 3YO record in Australia is
TWO YEARS:  2014-2015  Starts 0: 0-0-0-0
THREE YEARS:  2015-2016  Starts 7: 2-2-1-2

Some others I donít have much info about:
Lady Zetland (NZ) 1887 is reported to have had about 100 starts for about 20 wins. She won the 1896 CJC New Zealand Cup (G1, later G2).
Wakawatea (NZ) 1889 had 162 starts for 26 wins and may have won the 1895 Oakleigh Plate
Achilles (AUS) 1899  46 starts 25 wins and won the 1907 WeRC Wellington Cup

Cheers
PS you might want to put the last 3 in the too hard basket unless you think the state library of nsw is your best friend

Thanks Tim.

I decided to qualify the list by restricting it to those which won a G1 equivalent race in Australia, which eliminated horses like Kindergarten.

Adding in the Kiwis, I've got

Grey Way (1970) 51 Aust 1
Show Gate (1969) 30
Tatua (1959) 26 Aust -
Battle Eve (1970) 25
Tamatete (1918) 24*
La Mer (1973) 24 Aust 1
Catering King (1982) 24
Reremoana (1920) 23
Mainbrace (1947) 23
Shifnal Chief (1970) 22
Copper Belt (1973) 21
March Legend (1972) 20 Aust 1

Thanks for reminding me of Whakawatea. He was an incredible horse, racing until he was near 20.

According to whichever source you look at he had anywhere from 162-177 starts and either 28, 29 or 30 wins including the Oakleigh Plate with 9st 13lb, Tramway with 9st 10lb, the Shorts, the Great Northern Foal Stakes and the Rosehill Cup. Some contemporary newspapers gave his record as New Zealand 21 starts 9 wins and 11 placings as a 2yo then Australia 156 starts and 21 wins.

The only Group winner with more starts that I've traced was the 1960s/early 1970s Havelock which started 203 times for his 22 wins including both the Orr and Underwood Stakes.

I'll see what I can find on Lady Zetland, unfortunately the State Library of NSW is a long way from Hobart!

By the way, I'm enjoying your International records.
