As soon as I heard about Scomo's red line if China built a navaI base in the Solomons I went out to the garden shed to clean and sharpen my tools and put them in the boot ready to head north to defend our hard won democratic right to write all manner of nonsense on racehorsetalk.com.au. I started planning to ship my racing and sports library with the family to Tassie just in case. (John Howard had taken away my .22).

Within 24 hours the red line had moved. Scomo says the red line will now be determined by the UK and the USA in consultation with probably means the red line will be determined by China.

We need to impress upon our allies that the redline must be just north of Noosa so we get to keep the Brisbane winter carnival and the Magic Millions. Also it means we can keep the best racecourses, horse studs, golf courses, sports stadiums and beaches as well as the wineries, breweries and tassie oysters.

If we have to give up Perth that can be used to solve the AFL's Tassie problem. The Dockers can relocate to Launceston and the Eagles to Hobart. We probably wont miss the WA summer carnival as it only has a couple of Group 1s.

The Greens policy is to ban horse racing.

So if there is some negotiating to form a Labor minority government with The Greens and Climate independents then the WA Group 1's will certainly disappear, along with every other Group 1.

There is a leftist push all across the world to ban horse racing. There will be protesters at Royal Ascot in a couple of months time same as happened at the Melbourne Cup.

And these protesters are quite serious. I wouldn't be surprised that within a generation we do not have any horse racing any more.

If there is a war, I can guarantee that most of the children of the rich or politicians won’t be fighting.

I think war should be fought like centuries ago with the leaders on the front line.

Scotty on the other hand would probably shoot himself or people on his side if his skills as a welder are an indication.

Not just The Greens that want to give horse racing the flick
Quite a few Animal Justice voices too.
Throw in strong independents and not hard to see the problems for horse racing.
Low percentage support for horse and dog racing in society.....could be a vote winner.

I would never had known The Grinder smashed his front legs at Randwick on Mel. Cup day if he didn't report it on Twitter.....and I'm a racing man.
Wasn't reported by the racing industry.....they didn't want to spoil the Waller Cup party.

Necropsy report hidden away in a Provincial Stewards report...where else would you expect to find it?

......pretty sneaky.
Just makes people want to take a closer look at racing...don't always like what a closer look can reveal at times.

An alternate view.....

Plenty of police die on the job so are we going to ban policing?

Same for many other jobs like mining electrical work etc etc......

People get to choose their profession....incumbent on their employers to make the work place as safe as they can.

Animals don't have a choice.
Racehorses certainly know where the finish line is....I found that out the first time I rode trackwork.
Thanks for pulling yourself up Sahrano....my arms were dead....never forget you boy!

The Grinder didn't have a voice or a choice.
He did stop very quickly crossing the line at his previous run.....I backed him and I noted it.
Maybe people just not seeing.....smashed his front legs 300 metres after the start 3 weeks later......RIP boy

hmmm free will may be an illusion,

Various factors lead to people doing the job they do..... How many janitors barely paying the rent would rather be a rich businessman but are denied access to finance to do so etc etc

During the greyhound 'ban' he was up and about on twitter, he engaged me a number of times when I questioned his posts and stats etc. Instead of backing up anything he said he quickly blocked me

This is a bloke who was caught out eating a fish dish, how anyone gives him the time of day is astounding.

The problem for me was, Gintara....it was Mark Pearson who drew my attention to The Grinder's fate.

It was shared on twitter and I followed him from then on.
Why should it take an Animal Justice politician to report this?....if this is where you have to go to find out what happens, well then so be it.

It wasn't reported anywhere else that I saw on Mel. Cup day.
The horse wasn't acknowledged by the stable's twitter account.
The summary of the necropsy report were buried in a Wyong Stewards report.....and some fairly generalised language used.
Not good enough in my book

RACE 8 – Quayclean Handicap 1600m
Canyonero – slow to begin. Rider J Ford reported the gelding travelled well in the run, but did not quicken when asked for an effort in the straight and raced flat. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr R Litt advised that Canyonero will be freshened up before its next race start and undertook to report back on the post race condition of the gelding.
Majella – on jumping had to be checked when badly crowded between Jojo Was A Man, which shifted in slightly, and Reinvest, which was taken out by The Grinder, which in turn was taken out by Atlantic King.
Reinvest – was badly crowded on jumping between Majella and The Grinder, which was taken out by Atlantic King. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
The Grinder – on jumping was hampered by Atlantic King which shifted out and a short distance after had to be steadied when awkwardly positioned at the heels of Atlantic King. The Grinder was eased down from the race near the 1100m when it sustained biaxial sesamoid fractures in the near foreleg. The Grinder was subsequently humanely euthanised. Rider L Magorrian advised that the gelding had felt well in its preliminary and had not given any indication of any issues in the early stages of the event. He added that he had ridden The Grinder in trackwork yesterday and the horse felt sound in its work. The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed to allow Stewards to consider veterinary and treatment records and to interview trainer Mr C Waller and to obtain the necropsy report that will be conducted on the gelding
