I for one enjoyed the racing back in the "good old days" more than I do today .

That is why it is just a bit of fun these days for me with minimum bets.

To each their own but I wouldn't pay more to watch it at home.

Surely $1500 is chicken feed compared to what you win from the mailman's tips  ;)

now there are 2,you have just joined OL SW,and if anyone would care to have a wager on it,i will be only to happy to oblige

My sources query the start date mentioned in the article and question DAJ's informed opinion that one channel will still show all. How would that ease the logjam other than having man on track comments only shown on Sky 1. I will  wait till better info becomes available but no need to worry about fee changes, if any for awhile.

the reason sky2 will still show all,is because the majority of tab punters, bet all over the place, and the reason sky are starting another channel,is because they made an offer to tvn to purchase a share of that channel,at this stage tvn have declined the offer

Dragons wrote to Gratlog "That would be a wonderful way of doing the form, listening on the radio". Well Dragons, as I have previously pointed out I do no form, never have and never will, but follow betting movements and have survived in the game 40 years. I have TvN etc because I like to watch my money go around. Like Gratlog I preferred "the good old days" because as you say, there were more mug punters and personally, it was much easier to win.

IMO, the market can support just TWO channels.

1.  Showing three of four of the metropolitan meetings.

2.  Showing everything else.

On the point of the current Foxtel package, I wonder how many of the basic-only subscriptions are taken up purely for the Sky racing channel.  I suspect a very large proportion.  If that suspicion is correct, we have racing supporting non-racing with no financial benefit to the industry.  Fox obviously earns income from the advertising on the other basic package channels.  Many who watch the other channels would not do so if it weren't for Sky Channel.

We ALL prefer "the good old days" - when we couldn't afford cars, when we lived in tents, when there were no illicit drugs, when we would die of heart attacks before 60, etc etc.

But ahhhh, there were bookies and punters all over the race course. :)

NO CONTEST: TVN v. PIE IN THE SKY

Any imaginings about some SKY Premium telecast competing with TVN are just pie in the sky.

For my money, SKY TV will go the same way as the Tabcorp franchise for retail betting operations -- down the chute.

However hard it has been to fight the good fight in this ring, TVN has defied the odds: I cannot imagine any 'at home' punter not having TVN.  For me -- some $60 per month for access to Austar basic + TVN, means I am paying $15 per week to watch TVN on Saturdays,  and nothing else (bar the odd interview on TVN -- like Nathan Tinkler).

Many people might do things differently with TVN but the broadcast team has settled into a very credible and familiar presence:  Bruce Clark is outstanding in the anchor role --a truly competent racing journalist and presenter-player, always conceding the limelight to everyone he speaks to.

Along with Betfair (which broke the TAB monopoly), TVN is the best thing that has happened in Australian racing for decades -- it broke the linkage of Tabcorp to the broadcast media.

Apologies if I've missed someone else posting it - but it's worth pointing out the new Sky have increased the online media content - http://www.skychannel.com.au/media/ some of Sky's programmes are now being put online as well - at the moment the only shame is that they seem to be a few days old - still it's a great start.
