The Courier Mail reported the sale of Centre Racing to Unitab on Friday 21 November.

UniTab already paid CentreRacing a massive amount of money (close to $1 million) on the rebates that Unitab give them on the bets placed by Centreracing with Unitab. 6 % rebate on racing bets (six in every 100 dollars).

From my understanding reading other forums, everyone got the same letter:

Dear Customer,

I have an important announcement to make. CENTRERACING has been bought by the Tatts Group, a company that owns UNITAB. The take over date is December 1.

Your funds and account number will remain secure. You should notice very little change as I understand the group will continue to operate the business as usual. In the longer term, you can look forward to announcements of new initiatives as they complete their new software implementations. I hope you see fit to continue your relationship with Centreracing.

I take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for your past patronage, I am now retiring from the corporate bookmaking scene, but will continue to work on track at some major meetings. In the past, I understand that you have had a choice of many bookmakers to do your betting with, and hope the service you have received from my loyal staff, all who will remain with the new company, will continue into the future.

TERRY LILLIS
CENTRERACING
PROPRIETOR

Terry Lillis originally set up Centrebet in 1996, the first sports online bookie business and sold it in 1998.

Perhaps UniTab should make an offer on the very small ACTTab, given that it is already involved with the Northern Territory

ACT TAB dives in to seek pool partners

A joint venture with new partners looms as a the best possible solution to save ACTTAB's existance, should it end its relationship with betting giant Tabcorp.

Tabcorp has asked ACTTAB for a mutual agreement to sever its link to its betting pool. ACTTAB is seeking legal advice but will decline should it gain confirmation an existing contract until 2012 is binding.

Even if it had to wait until 2012, ACTTAB would still need to find new partners to survive as it would not have the financial strength to remain as a solo betting agency, according to deputy chairman Ted Quinlan.

Quinlan yesterday confirmed he had sought contact with Tasmania and WA racing officials, who have also both been requested by Tabcorp to sever ties. The merging of those three agencies could be one option for ACTTAB's survival but if NSWTAB and Supertab were to merge pools, it remains questionable whether a combined ACT/Tasmania/WA pool would be large enough to compete and hence survive. The other foreseeable option ACTTAB has is to seek a merger with UNiTAB, a betting pool already in existence which includes South Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

''ACTTAB is not of a size where we could maintain a pool of ourselves and I don't want to speculate in the public forum what the options might be for us but I'm confident there would be options,'' Quinlan said.

''They may involve joint ventures but there will be options out there. It will be up to us to do our level best.

''We are seeking contact with Tasmania and WA officials and hope to have discussions with them about plans and strategies.''

ACTTAB will firstly meet with Tabcorp to get a better understanding of why it wants to end a relationship which began in August 1994. The chief executives of Canberra's three racing codes were last night all eagerly awaiting the outcome of proposed discussions.

I opened up a UNITAB account the other day and made an initial deposit with my debit card.
I tried to deposit tonight and it told me my card isn't verified  :chin:

Nah I deposit anyday before 5.30pm in account next morning.  I use bpay for UniTab, NSW Tab and Sportingbet.  I deposit cash in the ACt.

Fair enough, but I wanted to chuck in 50 to have a few Trebles tonight.
It seems strange I opened my account and made initial deposit with that debit card, and now they require it to be verified  :chin:

Poli is a good instant deposit method.  No fees from your bank as with credit cards.  Not sure if Centreracing has it but most of the other major bookies and betfair do.

I put $20 into Sportsbet yesterday at about 9am and it is there now.

That's good enough for me.
