Why should races be run in South Australia?

The new government in South Australia is apparently posing the question of why states, other than NSW and Victoria, should continue to subsidize a local racing industry.

The SA government will still get takeouts from bets placed with their local TABs and POC taxes on bets placed by SA residents.

Is there any reason why the SA government would then sensibly spend these taxes on subsidies for local racing?
