Danny Beau is being set to take on Takeover Target and Apache Cat in the Winterbottom Stakes on 29 November after winning Three Colonel Reeves at Ascot yesterday. Danny Beau is a half brother to Miss Andretti who won this event in 2005.

Ford satisfied with barrier one for Takeover Target
Clinton Payne
Tuesday, 25 November 2008

Singapore based jockey Jay Ford can’t wait to board a plane tomorrow for Perth where he will reunite with his old mate Takeover Target in Saturday’s $400,000 Group II SGIO-Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot.

Ford was tickled pink when he found out following trackwork this morning that Takeover Target had drawn the inside barrier in the field of nine for Saturday’s feature where Perth racing fans are in for one of the biggest treats seen on a Perth racecourse with the super sprinter clashing with Apache Cat and local favourite Marasco.

“That is perfect,” Ford said.

“Joe [Janiak] tells me the horse is great and I loved what I saw on Perth Racing in his exhibition gallop with Apache Cat.

“His action looked great, his coat looked good and I thought his work was very good.”

“Fingers crossed he can make a winning return to the track.

“I’ll ride him in his work tomorrow morning and Joe tells me he hasn’t put a foot wrong since he arrived in Perth.”

Riding in Perth won’t be a new experience for the former champion Sydney apprentice who competed in an apprentices series five years ago.

“It was a great experience and it’s good that I’ve ridden on the track before,” he said.

Despite a disappointing performance in last Saturday’s Railway Stakes, Marasco’s trainer Fred Kersley will back-up the gelding under the more suitable weight-for-age conditions in the Winterbottom.

Leading Victorian rider Brad Rawiller has been confirmed as the rider for Marasco after being released from his booking aboard Surprise Impact who will now be ridden by Troy Turner.

“It is never nice to be released from rides but these circumstances warranted that I try and ride one of the best horses in the state.” Rawiller said on Perth’s Track Talk today.

“Marasco is a great horse and it is flattering to be asked to ride him.

“He had no luck in the Railway Stakes and Fred Kersley has freshened horses up before to drop back in distance.”

“It will be great to have such a good ride in a race like this, with wonderful horses like Takeover Target and Apache Cat being involved.”

Apache Cat meanwhile has drawn barrier 5 for Saturday’s clash but would appear to need to lift following his disappointing effort when resuming in the Age Classic at Flemington on November 8 before clearly being outpointed in his exhibition gallop against Takeover Target at Ascot 11 days ago.

Between them the nine Winterbottom Stakes acceptors have accumulated almost $12 million in prizemoney and the quality of WA’s biggest sprint strengthens the push for the event to be upgraded to Group One status in the coming years.

Marasco is dropping back from the 1600m of the Railway to 1200m in a week isn't he ?

Surely has to be of some concern  :/

Fred Kersely is hoping they attack Takeover Target in the lead and that they soften him up in front ...... Takeover doesn't have to lead, he will take a sit off a hot pace I would think

I watched a replay of Danny Beau winning the other week and it looked really good over this distance.

Wonder what price it will be?

I haven't looked around at other sites, but Sportingbet has it at $5.25.

Might get better on Unitab on the day.

I reckon Marasco is closed to a good thing here.
You couldn't back Apache Cat after last start and then travelling to Perth.
Then you have to take fractional odds about a 9yo!
He's back to WFA and already shortened in the market.
Danny Beau is a good horse but Marasco has been there done that.

Think i've settled on Takeover Target, Marasco, & Hips Don't Lie in a Boxed Quin, think that'll be my main bet, possibly a saver on Danny Beau who i like but don't know about the weight.

I like Danny Beau and back in March he carried 58 to win over 1200 and won again carring 59 over 1000M in June.  Having said that I'll probably box him up with TT, Marasco and Royal Lott.  I've left Apache Cat out, but you can't take them all.

Only trouble I see if TT & DB go at it in the lead it may set it up for Marasco or the Cat coming over the top.

Top race which ever way it pans out  8-)

Takeover Target .... will be surely missed in racing when he finally retires.

Be extremly hard to replace a horse like him
