For the life of me I cannot see how she is going to win the Cox Plate from barrier 1.

And after listening to Bowman on Sky Sports Radio during the week, I'm more convinced she won't win. Hope I'm wrong.

The interviewer asked Bowman what his plan was. He said if they go slow early he'll slot her in 4th or 5th but if they go hard he'll drop back. At this point I was waiting for the next part of the plan, and I'm sure the interviewer was as well but that is all you got. I really think he has no plan going into this and will ride her for luck - which is unlikely to come.

I reckon Waller should have engaged a local rider with years of experience riding at the Valley.

Hope I end up with egg on my face, but will not be putting any of mine on her today  :shy:

It will not be a slowly run race.

I am sure after today the autumn target will be the Queen Elizabeth.

After that she would be a perfect horse to take to Europe for their mile championship races.

a local rider with years of experience riding at the Valley.

a local rider with years of experience riding horses in the Cox Plate drawn 1 with a withering sprint having its first start over the distance.

Must be plenty better than Bowman. :chin:

I'd put Tegan Harrison on her. After watching that gem of a ride on Plutorius in the Lismore Cup, she obviously thinks about things before the important races and comes up with a plan.

I am sure he has a plan.

I doubt Shane Flanagan gives his game plan away prior to any biig game.

PP you must be on some good drugs cause hughie is the best jockey AND horseman in aus. If anyone can get her to win its her. Then you say put tegan on who isnt even a local?

Hugh is one jockey id back every day of the week. Put on a jockey that doesnt know the horse and she eont be comfortable in the run and wont have that finishing burst. Who is riding better than bowman? J mac is second best and the only one even close to riding as well as hugh. Sammy clipperton can be as good too in a few years, but id back hugh on a broomstick  against craig williams in a v8 that is the difference

I hope they back her up in the Mackinnon with the nice long straight but doubt that will ever happen.

Go on.

Give it to me. I deserve it :)

What a champ. Something clicked in Brisbane last winter and she suddenly became what we saw today.

Think the best is yet to come.

Well ridden Hughie.

Hughie has certainly improved today with two exceptional rides after reading PP's critique  posted at 11.59.

Great win. Hughie must have listened to PP7's advice on his lack of plan for the race

I didn't back her either though   :embarrassed:

He'll be lucky not to cop a suspension for that ride though.

Pain in the butt Shane Dye when asked who he would like to be riding said Winx and then said how he would ride her...Hugh must have had a bug on Dye as he rode it like Dye said he would if he rode her.Actually I hate to admit it but Dye was correct a few times before the races were run....but he is still arrogant and quite on him self.

Bowman made the surprising admission he went into the Cox Plate without a riding plan.

“I didn’t have a plan, I just wanted to ride her where she was comfortable,’’ Bowman said. “I knew if she was comfortable she would deliver.

“I didn’t want to go for home at the 500m but when The Cleaner ran off, I thought I had a soft run, I knew she could sprint and they weren’t making up ground.

“It is not like I thought of all of this, it was an instinctive move and I was happy to capitalise.

“When we went through, I thought I’m in business here. I thought if she tires it is because I went too early.

“But she is a super mare, I relied on her and she delivered.’’

Her vs First Seal. Cant wait. Might get a price about First Seal for once. Still think she is better than Winx up to 1600m

I have been impressed with some of your observations today. Not this one. You will get a price, but there is no point in backing a non winner.

I agree whisper and I'll give you something else to consider.
WHEN, J. Seargent trains Gust Of Wind differently next prep, you'll see an exceptional mare as well

Best crop of mares for a long time, I suspect

First Seal has had an injury for a while, I suspect through the autumn she was feeling it, and has beaten winx before at 1600m. Willing to risk that once she gets over the hoof problem she will let down.
Gust of wind doesnt need to be trained any different, shes a top 5 chance for sure in the MC. If they aim her at the QE11 I would be willing to back her pre-post though as she is the genuine stayer out of these.

Definately best crop of mares we have had in a while, I would love to see Gust Of Wind win the MC for aus (but not for my bank balance!). Since we have had the steroid rule in Aus seems that the fillies and mares have the wood on the colts and geldings. Id say this years 3yo are the same, with Jameka winning. Only Press statement and Exosphere are on top of them.
