No one will much care but with Chautauqua and Winx supreme this weekend give a little cheer for the colonial breds.
Winx traces to Vanity (1846) who was bred by Charles Roberts at Havilah outside Mudgee by the colonial bred Sir Charles (1841) and the imported mare The Giggler. Vanity was sent to Young Plover (winner of the 1851 AJC St Leger) to produce Deception who was exported to New Zealand. Her grand daughter Pibroch produced the turn of the century NZ champion Menschikoff.
Chautauqua traces to Silver Bell (1877) a daughter of Yattendon ( AJC Derby, Sydney Cup, etc) and full sister to the champion racehorse and sire Chester (VRC Derby, Melbourne Cup, etc). Silver Bell was bred by Edward King Cox at Fernhill stud (also in Mudgee). The family was exported to New Zealand in 1896 with Campania.
