Not sure where Clinton Payne gets his info that
'Victory in her next two starts will see Winx eclipse Kingston Town’s record of three Cox Plate wins and she will become the greatest earner in international racing history.'
I recently included the following under Winx career record:
WORLD WIDE CAREER EARNINGS RECORDS
According to my analysis Winx is now the world's 9th highest earner in US dollars using Reserve Bank of Australia daily exchange rates for the day of the race or the immediately preceeding trading day in the race date is on a non-trading day. She is 6th highest earner if the horses earnings are converted to AUD and 7th if converted to British pounds.
My top 11 earners in USD and AUD are
Buena Vista (JPN) 2006 USD 19,883,806.92 AUD 21,941,647.67
Orfevre (JPN) 2008 USD 18,988,822.81 AUD 18,869,240.21
Gentildonna (JPN) 2009 USD 18,481,223.14 AUD 19,256,471.41
Arrogate (USA) 2013 USD 17,422,600.00 AUD 22,934,750.54
Kitasan Black (JPN) 2012 USD 16,554,365.50 AUD 22,020,065.93
T M Opera O (JPN) 1996 USD 16,252,573.34 AUD 29,003,944.47
Gun Runner (USA) 2013 USD 15,988,500.00 AUD 20,397,995.98
Gold Ship (JPN) 2009 USD 15,043,119.59 AUD 15,651,726.75
Winx (AUS) 2011 (as at 15 Sept 2011) USD 14,890,273.63 AUD 19,582,425.00
California Chrome (USA) 2011 USD 14,752,650.00 AUD 18,515,899.16
Vodka (JPN) 2004 (mare) USD 14,179,220.88 AUD 17,291,550.01
Note: Deep Impact (JPN) 2002 earned more JPY than Vodka and Gold Ship but misses the top 10 when converted to USD and AUD. According to equibase the top European runner is Highland Reel at around USD 10,500,000.
As you can see Winx has to earn more more than USD 5,000,000 to pass Buena Vista or if Aussie dollars are the yard stick she has to earn AUD 9,000,000 plus to pass T M Opera O such are the vagaries of tracking earnings across multiple jurisdictions and currencies. So even if she wins her next two starts she will not be no 1 unless she wins the AUD 15,000,000 Thredbo at her next start.
