I can't believe that crap argument espoused by Wily and others about dodging opposition to protect the streak.

Who the hell was dodged for shitssake?

Her campaigns ensured she was still at her peak rising eight for shitssake.

And it wasn't as though she was taking on Darwin's best , she won 33or something G1s for shitssake.

Wily, she was unbeaten for the best part of 4 years.

Horses you mention like Vo Rogue ducked wet tracks and Sydney way of going. Lonhro could not win a single Cox Plate let alone 4. He did not win a single G1 handicap.

But both horses were wonderful horses in their own right but not up to Winx.

She was a brilliant horse and her off days were still good enough to win especially during spring 2017.

Jeunes, once again I didnít say she duck anyone. She beat all that was thrown at her

There may have been off days for them but realistically they were put in races which werenít designed to protect a winning streak

Lonhro for example winning the Australian Cup then dropping back to the Ryder

Or Vo Rogue winning the Australian Cup and dropping back to a listed 1200m race the next week

No way would the connections of Winx jeopardise the streak to do those freakish thing

Wily

If that's not saying her connections ducked challenges I'm a monkey's uncle.

She would have lapped Lonhro. Was she as exciting to watch as the VO when he was cruising along in a race like his second Australian Cup. Probably not when you think gallopers of the ilk of Stylish Century, Super Impose and Better Loosen Up were doing the chasing.
Think they had many lengths on the Clapper etc. But in Racing you can only win and she really was wonderful. All are great memories

I know where the Wily is coming from . They used to switch the Vo back to 1200 metre races to take on the best sprinters in the land including top horses like Campaign King at Group 1 level. Didn't matter he still took care of them. They certainly were not "precious " with him.

I am not sure regarding that they had many lengths on Clapper. I think HC would have been very competitive versus the horses named as he could take a spot anywhere.

Would Haylist have been competitive against Alinghi, Schillachi, Miss Andretti, Campaign King, Takeover Target etc

I believe Clapper, Hartnell and Haylist are not that well regarded as horses from other eras due to the fact they were beaten easily by the champs.

Thatís how they built their reputation but i canít cop it. Running a few placing behind champs doesnít elevate them any higher in my view. Itís not as if they dominated when they went away from Winx or B C

Hartnell has probably lost a dozen times since he last raced Winx  and the clapper has a win rate of about 25% while the others you mentioned are probably close to 50%

None of us are right or wrong just respect different aspects of the game

In all due fairness, I agree with you to a large degree. However how many times did people change the programmes of the horses to avoid Winx or Caviar.

Personally, I have a very soft spot for all the runners in the 1992 Cox Plate and 1996 Rosehill Guineas. I still believe depth wise, those two are the best races in the last 30 years.

Would Winx have beaten those fields comfortably. I am not sure but I know she would have won.

Winx was unfulfilled potential.

We will never really know how good she was because her least 4 campaigns where uneventful.

Phar Lap, Tulloch and Kingston Town had far more testing careers.

What rubbish.
Uneventful?
If you say ALL those races were uneventful then good luck, I disagree, and if we accept that, it was so because she was so fast.
Full stop.
She was very very fast...get it?
Her sectionals confirm her greatness, her race and track records do the same...let alone her record.
Just stop it, you guys would boo Jesus.

I thought you were agnostic.

You're right though.  If you go back to some of her early runs, they were unbelievable.

You know she's going to win because you know the record, but watching you think she just can't.

She did get a bit more dour as she got older but not much!

And then her first Cox Plate.  Great ride for sure, but she just exploded along the rail.

I reckon Highland Reel went back to Europe and told them all about it.
