On 05-10-19 in 1100m race @ MACKAY . .

COHESION beat LAST CHANCE by 0.1 lengths

R&S rated COH's run @ 36.5 and that of L.C @ 39

I am not trying to be a 'knocker', but can anybody explain why the two ratings are not identical, as I may be using these ratings in the wrong way

Any help appreciated

Thanks Sobig . .

Senior's moment . .

Obviously to 'dead-heat' with a horse carrying 3kg less is a much better performance

I'll buy you a beer next time I see you in a pub

Can someone let me know if Frank Reys rode the good sprinter Maritana  in the 60ís. A comment was made on radio that he rode the horse all the time. As a fan of Frank, I cannot recall him throwing his leg over the horse?..

Apologies for the delay Mick.  I don't around here much anymore.

I have done a fairly extensive search of the Trove newspaper archive and while i can find many instances of Frank Reys riding against Maritana I cannot find a sinle instance of Reys actually riding the horse.  There may be some isolated incidence taht I have missed but he certainly never rode Maritana 'all the time'.

Maritana had many riders but the most common a[pears to have been R.J.Hall.

From my memory, Maritana was trained by Tommy Hughes and was often ridden by Mick Mallyon.I stand to be corrected but he may have been rubbed out over his ride on the horse at Moonee Valley.

He was DQ for 3 years along with the connections in early 1966 for not riding out Maritana.

From what I read the horse was disqualified for three years as well ...
   http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article105883742

Tommy Hughes trained Maritana until the suspension in January 1966 after he ran fourth in the Argyle Hcp at MV and returned to a fierce demonstration by punters.

In February the appeals by the owner Bill Pilgrim and trainer TJ Hughes were upheld but Mallyon's appeal was dismissed.   The disqualification of Maritana was also lifted.

Maritana went on to race intil he was rising 10 for several trainers including Geoff Murphy, Doug Murdoch, AF Honeychurch and Tony Lopes.  He won many races and was more than competitive at WFA and feature handicaps.  He won the 1966 White Lightning Hcp in Brisbane as a 3YO then the 1966 Invitation Stakes (Rupert Clarke Sks), the 1969 Liston Stakes (PB Lawrence Sks) and the 1971 Linlithgow Stakes (god only knows what they call it these days - WFA Oaks day).  He held the MV 1200m track record and was a winner of Seymour Flying in 1971 carrying 10 stone 10 lbs (150lb = 68kg).

Frank Reys rode Maritana in the Spring of 1971 including his wins in the Moonga Handicap on Caulfield Cup day, the Linlithgow Stakes on Oaks day  - as far as I can tell they were the only times Reys rode the horse..

These are the colours carried by Renewal

Does anyone know who owns these colours or any other horse that carries these colours?

As  a matter of interest theses are the colours carried by the Mighty Tulloch.

I was scrolling through the form for Casterton yesterday and saw that The Armani a 12 year old has had (now)126-127 starts.

Is this the 'runningest' horse racing in Australia as present?

Can someone point me to a site or source which shows horses that have had a great number of starts., particularly in Australia?

Thanks

Crafty Cruiser is still listed as active and I'm sure I heard Bryce say he's not retiring.
12 years old, 158 starts and over a million in the bank.......onya Bryce......living your dream

Seems like a couple of crafty kiwis know a bit about keeping a horse on the racetrack........keep away from very firm tracks and go easy with the 'veterinary science' ;) ;)
