$1,000 PRIZE POOL (minimum), WINNER TAKES ALL!!!!

We've had plenty of fun with this concept and competition across the last 5 years, and so we kick off again on Friday March 13th.

For anyone new to this, as you'll see in the detail below we combine some weekly strategy (and drama) to tipping winners, such that it hardly matters where you are on the table till the final weeks as anyone can literally jump ahead and win. The last 3 comp winners have not been decided until the final few weeks, little alone minutes of the season.

And best of all, unlike most standard format tipping comps where half the field loses interest after 10 weeks everyone remains a live option to win this comp right down to the final weeks.

Winner take all!!

Last yr the winner cleaned up over $800, I have no doubt the prize pool will exceed $1,000 this year, in fact I guarantee it and stump up the difference should we have any short fall.

$25 per player entry, winner takes all, nice and easy.

Anyone can play, everyone is welcome (forum members, family, friends, etc).

And I can guarantee you it’ll be the most interesting fun and the best rollercoaster ride you’ll have all year for $25!!

I am making one adjustment to the entry rules for 09, and leaving entry open until Round 3. This will not disadvantage anyone, as early starters will have the opportunity to already be building points (including the weekly 100 bonus for tipping the round), but it will cater for those that are a little slow out of the gates in nominating and getting started.

Payment

A separate bank account will be established through the next few days with its details then nominated here for net or direct deposit. The account will be jointly managed by Puntermatt and I for your peace of mind and for anyone new to this we have a track record of having run this concept and comp now for the last 5 years. Full payment must be made by the Friday of week 3, 27th March.

2009 Double Up League Tipping Comp.

- Tip your nominated winners for the 8 games each week

- Close off for selections start time of the first Friday night game

(late selections will be excluded from the Friday night games, any double up option and or any bonus points for that weekend, however the selections for the Saturday and Sunday games will stand and still earn points).

- 1 point for each correct selection

- 100 points if you select the full round

(all winners, including any shorter rounds during Origin).

Double Up option

- The competition will run across the 26 home and away rounds. During the season (from Round 2 onwards when you have points), on at least 5 occasions – tip on a Friday night game (one only) and Double Up all your current competition points. To be eligible to win the competition you must Double Up a minimum of 5 times through the season, however there is no maximum, so you can Double Up as many times as you wish (and many wanting to chase the top of table leaders will!!).

So, each player must select / tip on a Friday night game (Friday night only) "double up" (all points they have going into that round). You make no other selections, just a single “double up” tip. Double up correctly - double your current points, pick the loser and you lose all your points and return to zero.

As stated, a player may choose to double up more than 5 times during the season, these are normally the desperate (or clever ones) who need to accumulate points quickly to get back up the ladder.

You get to choose when you double (what week) and at what stage of the season (strategy), which all makes for some interesting cat and mouse games (which it does!!) as players jockey for position or chase the leaders. Sound easy? We have not had a year where any player has come through with a clean slate. At one stage last year our then leader (and many fell with him) made a mistake when doubling 2,100 points!! And our eventual winner was on zero with only 8 rounds left in the comp!!

This is a tipping competition with a twist, however the fact remains we’ll find the best tipper as to succeed with this format you still must tip winners!! The benefit for all players is unlike any standard tipping competition where half the field lose interest after 10 weeks and drop off, you’ll remain a live option and in the game all the way to the final weeks.

The final winner is the person with the most points following round 26 (and must have doubled at least 5 times during the season). The final winner takes all monies in the final prize pool. In the event of any tie there will be a count back on 1) the correct number of double ups; 2) the number of correct 8 selection rounds; etc to finalise our winner. In the event of any dispute or decision required my final decision shall rule.

$25 per player entry, winner takes all, nice and easy.

Anyone can play, everyone is welcome (forum members, family, friends, etc).

Need to know info:

Who can play

Anyone, forum members, friends, work colleagues, family and alike. By all means pass the comp details on to whom ever you wish.

How do we enter our tips

We will have 3 entry points each Friday

-      Post you tip on this forum (a new message thread is started each week)

-      By email (many chose to receive leaderboard updates up dates and place their tips by email each week

-      Enter at a web address (new site detail to be advised through the next few weeks)

Selections, Results and Leaderboard

-      Will be available online here and at new web site, including selections from all each Friday evening.

-      To make things some what easier we have some software currently being written with a web interface so that direct tip entry, all weekly selections (following close off), results and up to date leader boards will be readily available.

If Kicker is still in therapy from last yr imagine the fun the leaders are going to have shouldering this through the second half of the yr, lol.

I'll have 2 in again.

If entries go through the roof, it might be worthwhile doing a 75% / 25% split for 1st and 2nd or something? For a prize pool of $1000, that would be $750 for 1st, $250 for 2nd... or would that change the dynamics too much? for better or worse?

Currently, we always seem to end up with the situation that in the last friday night game of the season, the leader takes the favourite in a double up, and 2nd place has no other option but to take the opponent in the double up... so unless you're running 1st or 2nd coming to the last round, there is no way possible that you can win (unless the Friday night game is a draw and both leaders get tripped up)... if there was a prize for 2nd, that's probably not going to happen - would 2nd place still take the underdog and try for the big win, or would he play it safe and try to hold 2nd spot? Either way it gives those players on 3rd and 4th a shot a prize and saves a bit more drama for the last round.

Something to think about?

It's not a bad option BT, and I have no problem with others taking a slice, but we would then be catering for players into the last round, where as I think part of the strategy is to try and have had it won by then (plenty of risk, and no always possible as we have seen), such that 1st prize is already settled and winner takes all     But we might consider some minor splits if we have a big pool, $800 was large last yr so $1,500 looks pretty attractive.

Nothing stopping players having their little side bets with each other as to who finishes higher up the ladder.

eg I'll challenge the first one to accept. Loser pays for a $24 trifecta on the Melb Cup
