I was at school that day and the teacher wheeled the TV into the classroom and we all watched the fight in class.  :clap2:

Can you imagine that happening today?

They are not allowed to go out in the sun without a hat these days.

My son's school banned basketball practice - something to do with insurance.

The teacher who let his students watch a boxing match (assuming a male teacher) would be summarily dismissed by the nanny state.

Anyone used to play "brandings" in school? Half of our year would be in jail on assault charges if today's rules applied

When I was younger I would occasionally go to the old Stadium on Friday nights ....I knew a few boxers in those days genuine fighters who were title holders ....apart from Harry Blanche who never got beyond the preliminary stage.....and  after Pat hill spotted his dive and declared it a no contest Harry not his real name wasn't invited back...today I watched some of the prelims in the UCF from Melbourne ..one bout the winner had his opponent on the deck punching the crap out of him before the referee finally stopped him from killing the guy....in later bouts under different refs they didn't wait when it was obvious the fight was over....tonight the womens' bout was shown on the 6 O'clock news and Ronda was well and truly gone when the ref stepped in to stop Holm from causing her serious injury.....I don't like this style of fighting although a crowd of 60,000 turned up which shows it appeals to lots of people. :boxing:

Im with ya Arsie, I feel sick when they hit the deck and the opponent jumps on and whacks away at their head, just like the women's bout ended today. Horrible look for any sport when someone cant physically defend themselves but they are still attacked.

I've been a boxing fan since I was knee high to a grasshopper.

This kick-boxing turns my stomach.

Who in their right mind takes young kids to these events? Kids under 10 everywhere.
You would think they could limit it to over 15's or around that age.

This is absolute garbage....who in the right mind think...that this is a sport or entertainment...two girls bashing, boxing, kicking the shite out of each other....maybe I am getting old....but there is no way I would allow my Grandchildren to watch this as a sport.....

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get it  :what:

It's not just the females but even the blokes fight where most seem to end up in a wrestle on the ground before someone taps out.

What's with the new Heavyweight champ of the world serenading his wife with an Aerosmith number to celebrate taking the title from Klitchko??

Deserves to be kicked out of the heavyweight champ club  for pulling a stunt like that.

Up to round 5 - pretty slow thus far. Not a good ad for boxing vs. UFC. Fury will get creamed when he comes against someone who can hit hard IMO.

Judges scoring again in the spotlight and a blight on the sport after the Golovkin - Alvarez fight today.

Result was a draw, but one judge gave it 115-113 Golovkin and another 118-110 Alvarez.

That's a 10 point turn around over 12 rounds.

Not seem him fight but he's ranked 7 by Boxing Rec, unbeaten in 24 fights and the last 4 he's fought had records of 20-0, 16-2, 29-0, 38-2  - so he has to have something going for him.

Boxing, with very few exceptions, is a shadow of it's former self.
