The Poms played and missed a hell of a lot to be fair.

We got the nicks, they didn't.  It's a game of millimeters.

Not picking Starc is just dumb.  Bowlers win Test matches.

When I saw Starc wasn't in the team I thought it must be April Fools Day. If I was a pommie batsman and they gave me a choice of playing against Starc or Siddle which one do you think I would pick ? Even more obvious if I was a pommie bowler who would I prefer to face ? No reflection on Siddle ; a very fine cricketer ; but the other bloke has the ex factor. As for that old bag of wind , Ian Chappell who said the pommie opener wasn't up to Test cricket : I wonder how he is feeling !!  Chappelli ; he has had one Ashes Test and has an Ashes test hundred to his name so he is probably as interested in your opinions as the rest of us.

Marcus Harris must be feeling good having that flog Bancroft selected before him. Langer is looking more like a sycophant by the minute

The conspiracy theorists will have a field day if Warner and Bancroft fail in the next two tests and picked for rest of the series. Those two need a big score.

Smith again shows why he is the best batsman in the world. Unless he falls dramatically out of form, he will be around for another 5 -6 years which equates to around 50 tests. The only thing he needs a triple century or two to bolster his total runs. His highest score is 239. His biggest issue with a triple century is that his team mates cannot hang around long enough so he to up his tempo.

This century there have been 21 recipients over 20 years.

By my reckoning 19 of the 21 appear to be caucasian.

You simply are a racist.

Will Bancroft be given another chance ? On his batting NO, but he caught three Poms at silly short leg, but, I cannot recall anybody ever been selected in any test side for their fielding ability alone.

That's probably right Bubba ;  but it still was a top effort in what I think most would consider the worst place to field in cricket. Not many would have been chosen on their fielding ability alone but  I am sure superior fielding ability has tipped the scales in many cases when two were regarded as equal in other disciplines. Two that come to mind for Australia were Paul Sheahan and Ross Edwards. Derek Randall for England and both Jonty Rhodes and Colin Bland for South Africa whose places in their sides were never " nail downed". Remiss of me not to mention that moron from the West whom Wenona has correctly  identified. Thankfully we are moving to a time when low lifes of that ilk will be outlawed on this type of forum.

An interesting statistic came up after Lyon took his 350th wicket.

No other bowler who debuted since Lyon did in test cricket has taken more wickets than him.

He is also in the top 25 wicket takers of all times. If he takes 11 more wickets, he will be past Imran, Vettori, Lillee and Vaas. Other than Lillee and Imran, he would have played fewer tests too.

The question is he is 31 years of age so at least has 5-6 years ahead of him. I never rated him as a bowler compared to the all time greats but his longevity and stats show he is much more than a journeyman.

"Wenona couldn't correctly identify his own ar$3hole with a torch and both hands.  "

Guess the Western racist is talking from personal experience.

Since inception I count 9 - but who cares?

What? Nine caucasian winners of Australian of the year since inception in 1960?

What sort of rabid blond hair, blue eyed Arian race definition are you applying?

Nine caucasian winners in 60 years? ... you are nothing but a racist and are one of the main reasons this forum is under going such a painful death.,

For the record I would consider 12 of the first 13 winners in the first 10 years to be caucasian ..

1960 – Sir Macfarlane Burnet
1961 – Dame Joan Sutherland
1962 – Jock Sturrock
1963 - Sir John Eccles
1964 – Dawn Fraser
1965 – Sir Robert Helpmann
1966 – Sir Jack Brabham
1967 – The Seekers
1969 – Lord Casey
1970 – Norman Thomas Gilroy

1968 - Lionel Rose being the exception - perhaps you could enlighten us about your musings around the shade of those winners skin colour in defence of your argument.

I'll say it straight out - any assertion that any of those winners won because of the 'shade' of their skin is monstrous and nothing but a racist slur.

He will and that is one of the other main reasons this place is dead.

It was good when it was going well and now it's time to move on and leave this behind.
