Now what was the point of all that.

Remember at the end of Round 2 the NRL had to suspend the comp and ultimately re-do the draw to make it 20 rounds.

So the people who sat down to make the draw would have sid something along the lines:

"Well each team has to play each other once. That is 15 rounds taken care of. That is the easy part".

"We now have to decide which teams play which teams twice. Each team needs to play 5 sides twice".

At this point you would think any fair minded person would say something like:

"OK let's use last year's standings as a mathematical reference point and make sure it is fair to all teams"

But that is not what happened.

Melbourne, out of their 5, were given 4 teams that finished in the top 8 last year. And not just that.

They won the minor premiership in 2019 and their 5 they had to play twice finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th,  6th and 11th.

Two things are astonishing. The fact they are coming 2nd, and the fact that Bellyache hasn't screamed Blue Murder.

Souths were given 3 teams who finished in the top 8 last year including 1st, 2nd and 8th - also 9th and 12th.

Easts were given 4 teams in the top 8 from last year to play twice - 1st, 3rd, 4th and 8th as well as 15th placed Dragons.

Melbourne got a score of 8.05 and Souths and Easts both go 8.25

Newcastle were fairly drawn and got 8.4

At the other end of the spectrum......

When they decided the 5 teams Canberra would play twice, they incredibly decided on the teams that finished 1st, 2nd - and 13th, 15th and 16th.

Parramatta were given two teams who finished in the 8 last year,  those who ran 6th and 8th!! The other 3 teams finished 9th, 10th and 12th.

Penrith were gifted only two teams who finished in the 8 last year - 5th and 7th!! The other teams they played twice finished 9th, 13th and 14th.

So what does this mean?

i) It is no surprise that Parramatta are starting to look shaky.
ii) There is a good argument that Souths should be in the four at the expense of Canberra (pressing for 4th) and Parramatta. If they had been given a fairer draw I reckon that they would have been.
iii) It is amazing that Easts are in the top 4, and even more amazing that Melbourne are 2nd.
iv) Penrith have had a soft draw and maybe, just maybe, their run of wins is exaggerated by the easy games they have received.

As we get to the pointy end of the season I'll be interested to see if those sides that have prevailed on the back of an unfair draw - Melbourne, Easts and Souths, aren't the real form teams in the comp.

Oh and St George

They had the second toughest draw behind Melbourne. Saints supporters can probably feel ripped off that they are not contesting the finals. After all that it wasn't Mary's fault after all.

I think the Roosters maybe trying to shield him as they did the same with Keary too. The Roosters have taken a soft approach to both of them. Many clubs give an extra recovery week now for concussions. Yeo, Matterson, Tedesco, Ponga etc are good examples of this policy.

The Roosters are in a quandary with Cordner if he chooses to play and I do not know what the NRL policy is in regards to forcible retirement of players with a number of concussions. This will open up a Pandoraís box in claims.

At the end of the Cordner has to call the shots with the help of his family. It is a sad situation for a player of his calibre as yesterdayís incident was not as bad as we see regularly when players come off.

Ricky Stuart launches attack on referees and Graham Annesley

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart is never afraid to speak his mind - and his latest spray will certainly have those at NRL HQ concerned.

The 5th-placed Green Machine came from behind to claim a 24-16 win over the New Zealand Warriors on Sunday afternoon, despite losing George Williams early in the contest.

There were plenty of stoppages and a controversial sin-bin decision against Jack Wighton in the first half, which led to Stuart savaging the referees in his post-game press conference.

ďI wasnít happy with too much. It was a shocking game of football," he said.

"If we had of put some lineouts in when the ball went out, it would have been two rugby union games here in two days...disgraceful.

ďIf my team was giving those penalties away, then well and good. But they were doing the same types of things and not getting penalised for it. Itís not the first time and it really frustrates me.

"Jack Wightonís sin bin Ė would that have been the same decision if it was a semi final? I hope not because he wasnít offside. You canít make that error."

But it wasn't just the referees who Stuart has been unimpressed with.

Following some obscure decisions across the weekend's games, the Bunker and Graham Annesley have both come under immense scrutiny, with the finals just around the corner.

Stuart slammed the NRL head of football, and said that their views on the game are 'planets apart'.

ďIím not getting into that. Thatís a question for Graham," he said.

"Graham Annesley is a really nice man, he has been in the game for a long time. But in regards to rugby league, Graham Annesley and myself are planets apart. Thank god COVID is in, because we wouldnít get any more than 6,000 to these games.

ďNo I wonít be raising any points (with him). I will be doing my review and they will do their review, go into hiding with their results and it will be game on again next week.

"Iíve been around the game long enough to know and see where we create a foul and we get penalised Ė I understand that. But when you see the opposition doing the exact same thing, I expect the penalty to be there too.

ďIt was just a frustrating day."

Canberra will look to keep their top four hopes alive next weekend against the Sharks, with an Eels loss required for them to earn a second chance in the playoffs.

$50,000 for Ricky (again).

When will he learn that he is an authoritarian bubble and must do as the empowered ones say.

If we get taken over by socialists (which is looking increasingly likely with COVID), Ricky wlll be one of he first ones led away to "re-education" camps.

Penrith v Storm. I know where most of the sentiment will be.

Even though Bellamy is touted as a SuperCoach, his offical tally is only 2 premierships. If you include the unofficial wins, his record improves to 4. However it is 4 wins out of 8 grand finals so a 50% chance.

I wonder how Gus feels now as I donít think Panthers would be in this position if they did not stick with the kids but him leaving also gave Ivan Cleary space too.

Agree.

And I have a problem with PVL going to Channel 9 and asking them to come up with a revised draw after COVID and that draw favouring Penrith - who only had to play lowly sides twice.

Easts, Souths and Melbourne all played each other twice while Penrith got all easy doubles. No wonder they were able to win all those games in a row.

And after the referees stepped in and ensured that Penrith beat Easts a couple of weeks ago late in the game, I am quite enjoying the GF.
